Great Question! If more than one player reaches 20 or more points, the player with more points wins. If the scores are tied, the player with the most Gourmet Recipes cooked wins. If still tied, most money wins. You can see the full details on Page 6 of the rulebook.
Such a fun game, headed out for a game night where we've played it as a group three times previously. It's the game they always want. Ahead of all my cerebral euros.
1. About the recipe, can we discard recipe and get a new one if we dislike it? At what phase If I can do that? 2. At move & money phase, can we choose our own desired location using wheel or is it random location using wheel? 3. Can we buy as much as we can at market from counter and shelf? Especially at shelf, can we buy/draw as much as we can as long as we have money? 4. For the upgrade, is it one upgrade for each category, or it can be more than once? 5. How many recipe for each basic and gourmet can chef hold on the game 6. Lastly. I know I just recently bought this game, I can't find restaurant timer app on google play anymore. Is it not supported anymore. I'm too afraid to download it from random apk website
Great questions: 1. With the Expansion (Back for Seconds), we added a rule to allow for Recipe Swap. You can do so during Buy and Barter at the Island IF you own the corresponding Recipe Upgrade. You would simply Draw 4, pick the one you want to keep, and discard the rest, including your original recipe. 2. You would use the wheel to mark it (not random). The wheel is in place to prevent players from "changing their mind" after other players reveal their desired location. 3. Yep - as long as you have they money, you can buy as much as you want (both counter and shelf). However, if the shelf runs out during the Buy and Barter phase you don't reset it until the Cook and Counter phase. 4. 1 per category. 5. 1 at a time. Once completed, you would add the points, flip it over and draw a replacement one. 6. Unfortunately the app is having issues on Android and we aren't sure when we'll get around to having someone repair it.
Played a couple rounds of the game. Really fun but I need a clarification on a rule. The garage section in rule book reads “you can get rid of garbage by going to the island and disposing it in the garage bin for $100 each”. I took that to mean you gain $100 for each garage you dispose of. After watching this video it seems like you have pay $100 to get rid of one garage. Which is right? It feels like it would be hard to get any money if you have to pay to get rid of garbage.
Great Question. You pay $100 to dispose each piece of garbage. It seems steep, but it works out across the course of the game as money becomes easier to accumulate.
When placing your chef on a specific counter, are you required to choose the counter space before you see where anyone else places their chef? Can you switch your counter when someone else places their chef down or is it “chess rules” where you put the piece down and it’s down forever. We had a question where two people in the same shop wanted to switch spaces (they went to the same counter) but decided to go to different ones because they didn’t want to bid (no bartering was done).
Great Question! You can choose a different counter space (within the same market), if you'd like. You are essentially "dropping out of a bidding war" by avoiding one.
So I have a question about the clam-voyance card. The card says clam-voyager can only protect you, but it also says it can be used to negate another clam-voyance. The argument here is that clam-voyance can be used to negate any other clam-voyance. For example, Player A used an action card that forced all other players to collect 2 garbage per alien goo they have. 3 players have to collect garbage. One of the players (Player 2) uses a clam-voyance card to negate the action card of Player 1. Another player (Player 3) uses their clam-voyance to negate Player 2s clam-voyance. Is this allowed? Player 3 is just a bystander that doesn’t have any alien goo either.
We'll answer the question here too so that it's easier for others to see. Player 3 would not be able to use clam-voyance in this situation since they are not the ones being targeted by a negative action. You can only use clam-voyance to negate an effect against you, and not another player.
In the video it’s said that the money and move phase is untimed, however when you pick which counter you will be going to on your movement wheel, the video says that once the timer is up everyone reveal their wheel. Is it timed, or is it just a consensus “everybody ready set go” kind of thing?
Great Catch! Money & Move is not a timed phase - once each player has chosen a location, they should flip their movement wheel to the "Ready to Move" side, and once all players are ready, you reveal your locations and end the phase.
Question about ingredients: if I have an ingredient that can go in both my basic and gourmet recipe, do I have to pick which recipe it goes into right away? Or can I wait to pick which recipe the ingredient goes into?
Yes, as soon as you acquire an ingredient that's listed in one of your recipes, you need to assign that ingredient to one of those recipes. However, you are free to move it back and forth between your Basic and Gourmet Recipes as you see fit. I hope this answers your question. Thanks for playing!
How does the bidding war work in terms of forcing a tie? Example:- 2 players have 400 each and start a bidding war. I bid 200, my opponent raises to 300. I don't wish to pay that amount, but I want to block my opponent, so can I just keep matching their bid to stop either of us getting it? or if we both settle on 300 would it then go to a garbage tiebreaker? Likewise if it gets to the tiebreaker at any point, do people have to bet more than the current bet? Or they are allowed to always match the current highest and force nobody to win it?
Great Question (Updating our FAQ accordingly): What happens during a bidding war if both are willing to offer the same amount? In order to stay in the bidding war, you must offer a price that is higher than the previously offered price. If you can't offer a higher price, than the first who first called the higher price gets the ingredient. It's just like in a real auction or bidding war
Hey gap closer, are the action cards a one and done deal? Meaning once you use the action card is it discarded or do you keep the action card so you can play it again the next day if you wanted to?
Is there a video or other place I can look to see how to pack game away properly? Also why is the discard tray two pieces? I don’t understand why the one piece comes out. Super excited to have just received the game and can’t wait to play it tonight!
We're working on an update to show this for both the Standard Insert as well as the Bento Box Insert, but in the meantime here is an overview that shows were the individual components go: static.wixstatic.com/media/4945d9_817bea03e96e4bc2914905ad7f64746f~mv2.png/v1/fill/w_2138,h_819/Standard%20Insert%20Layout.png
The Discard Tray had to be manufactured in two pieces due to its structure. It was deemed the best mode to mitigate cracks and future damage. As a bonus, you can store the "blank" recipe cards underneath if you'd like.
Gap Closer Games Rival Restaurants thank you that picture clarified a lot! I managed to fit the chef cutouts in with the bases since they are extremely tight to get on. I imagine repeated removal and installing will damage them otherwise. Not sure if you’ve gotten this feedback already but the acrylic pieces were all stuck together. Thankfully they came apart without damage for me but man did it hurt my nails. Lol. Initial thoughts are I love the quality of the cards + sleeves, love the acrylic pieces, appreciate the app and rules being so friendly. Few things I would have loved to see (2nd edition?): sturdier discard tray and garbage, the upgrade clips + restaurant cards are going to wear and tear I can see it already even after only putting the clips on a few times which has resulted in scuffs on the card. This makes me a bit sad since I worry how quickly it will deteriorate and if there will be a replacement cost. Take my comments with a grain of salt (and pepper?) as I’m still a huge fan and mean to only better the game for future editions to come! Thanks again for making the game and for keeping so close to schedule!

Can you play the game without making phase 2 timed? It seems to induce more stress to my group than I would want to and I am wondering if it is required for the full game experience.
You can definitely house-rule it and remove the timer in phase 2, but we would recommend you first try increasing the time to a level your group is more comfortable with (If using the App, you can increase the time to 90 Seconds). By removing the timed aspect it can create much longer terms (which can frustrate some players), would stretch the game beyond the 45-60 minutes, but would not otherwise imbalance the game play.
