My problem with Webtoon, is that it forces creators to make comics a "certain" way. Not only that but, the guidelines pushes that even further. Like no gruesome depictions of violence. These things keeps comics from being creative and that's why you see the same shit on the front page. Things would be easier if certain comics were age restricted similar to youtube. Not every comic should be punished for not having child friendly content. It's not the creators or the sites job to babysit preteens. There really needs to some sort of age rating for comics on Webtoons.
Basically thank the audience. Unfortunately people only pay for art when it gets them off. Creators want to make art while not going broke from the hours of drawing rather than working a " real job" so this becomes a natural thing
The problem with transitioning away from webtoon as a creator is you fostered an audience that isn't used to straight up paying for their comics as much, so now you have to market your comic without the hype of your first issue. I think selling a physical copy could be good, but since so many people already have access to the first story... not easy
I know lots of creators upload their "uncensored" videos to Patreon as a lure but I am glad that platform exists. UA-cam literally deleted my entire channel a year ago because I uploaded a video titled "The Sexuality of Saga" (the comic book). After a painstaking month YT restored my channel and only deleted the offending video (an extraordinarily rare mea culpa from YT). So ultimately I uploaded the deleted video to Patreon and allowed it to be viewed for free.
Isn't that the comic where two aliens from species that originated on different planets have a kid together? Which, is less likely then a human and a tree having a kid.

@@RambleOn07 I thought it was brilliant at for the first half-dozen or so collections and then the last one that came out before they went on a lengthy hiatus was terrible. I didn't find it overly political and they maintained a nice sense of humor and ribaldry, but the desperate need to keep shocking the audience started to repeat itself, and yeah the persistent gender-fluidity nonsense could probably be viewed as agenda-driven pandering.

But, once that facade of a story was gone I was just left with the same generic and forced world views that you get from everywhere else. Have you read the _The Stuff of Legend_ or _Mouse Guard_ series? I've been waiting for more of those for a good decade lol
The reason that you can't upload pornographic content is because Webtoon will be removed from the app stores. It is against their TOS and requirements to host the app download. If Webtoon gets removed from the app stores, their business will tank. After all, formatting of webtoons are geared towards mobile consumption. Webtoon isn't exactly making choices for the sake of morality. But it could explain why they let people link their patreon for that kind of content? (I don't mean to come off as aggressive, btw! I enjoy your videos, they're interesting. :)
Very true! Maybe if webtoon wants to have more saucy content, they should have it be browser-only and only accessible if you're logged in and of age? Not sure. But if they want to include nsfw content, I wish they'd gone about it better instead of flooding the platform with what are essentially ads for pron, despite not technically allowing pron.
My goal with posting my comic on webtoon is to garner a small dedicated audience and then pull them off of the platform to follow me elsewhere. I’m basically using webtoon for its built-in audience only. If webtoon ever miraculously offered to make me an original, I would only take it because I’d want to abuse the relationship and gain as many eyes as possible from them, then leave when the comic was done. I can’t stand webtoon as a company. Their social media and woke pandering are so irritating and I hate how obviously biased they are towards certain groups (cough lgbt cough) and only promote certain originals heavily. I would milk them dry and leave.
i read webcomics since about 20 years ago. never once complained when a free comic strip was late. i know webcomics that disappear for years and i just check once a while. I mean even official manga, i will probably die before Hunter X Hunter ever completes another arc
Production has always been a problem with comics. The story and the writing can be great but it takes longer to produce. A solution to get out stories faster was adding banter and investigation. It was VERY common in the 70s to read a comic book that nearly all small talk, thought bubbles, and spying. The only major shift was at the end when something was revealed. The solution to art was a production line: pencil, ink, lettering, etc. Fast forward and now the art is terrible. The speed of production has such a high premium in comics that the art suffers. The comic production line is akin to fast food, where the product is toxic and provides little to no nutrition. Today's comic art is very low quality but prolific.
Plot twist: Dannphan tried to submit her soft-porn webcomic and was rejected, that's why she has a feud with Webtoon. (I'm joking please don't take this seriously)
I always expressed how I want to be a comic book artist, and many suggest I should try publishing on Webtoon...hell no. I'm going straight to Shonen Jump.
Normalizing free art is generally a problem created by several platforms and videogames. Those companies can take the risk 'cause they have other ways to make money and use advertising, but regular artists very rarely are able to sell something else on top of the art they created which is a big problem for independent creators You can always sell your stuff up front, but it doesn't grab attention like a free comic would
I gotta say, I had no idea there was anything like that on webtoon. I only use the android app, and only read action stories. Most are mid at best, but there are a few that are really good
Regarding 18+ content. In order to keep ads and sponsors (like visa credit and apple), they have to be somewhat against porn, but the loophole is that you can link it elsewhere. It sucks that Canvas has turned into a bunch of softcore porn ads, but I get people are trying to make money and Webtoons is currently the largest platform for webcomics.
And the webtoons that do generally have good quality are done by actual teams Still, there are still some webtoons that have consistently good art, like S class
My main problem with things like this is that it’s free, the first few chapters should be free then you pay for the rest. My hatred for things being free started years ago when the iPhone first came out, it was probably around the time of the iPhone 3G or 4. At the time I would play a lot of games on the phone, but I’m the App Store reviews I would constantly see people whining about a game if you had to pay for it, these people thought everything should be free. Like people should spend months or years creating a game and then just give it away for free. Then here people expect you to create a comic every week and just give it to them for free, it really annoys me.
If I'm allowed to say it, Dannphan looks more and more beautiful on every video 🤭 I think it's a great idea giving a good use to Twitter, I have an account that I never used, except for liking drawings made by friends. Also about Webtoon, I've uploaded just 2 episodes of a comic I've been making because they took a lot time to make and I felt a little bit guilty for not being able to upload as often as I would like to 😢maybe I should try something that's shorter and easier to make to begin with.
If you're just starting out, I think it's okay. Is this your first comic? If so, not trying to be mean, it's probably going to suck because you've got no prior experience. But you've got to keep doing it otherwise you won't get better. Keep it up❤❤
Hypocrisy is definitely right, my episodes were deleted for violence even tho I completely censored it. And put warning signs in chapters before they started. However later I found that there are indeed other original or popular canvas series that have clear gore moments. I felt so bad and stopped uploading on it
Sex in a story doesn't make it porn, same way a character crying in a story doesn't make it a drama or a character laughing doesn't make it a comedy. And no.. I never saw a explicit sex scene in webtoon...
You're right! You can totally have sex exist in a story without it being pron. But I'm not talking about those... I'm talking about the stories that revolve around sex and little to nothing else-- Or as I would call them "pron plots". A plot that only serves to lead to sex scenes. Even if said sex scenes are exclusive for patrons, all the free readers are left with are a shitty plot and sexual tension. We've done readthroughs of some on this channel and BlackLightJack's channel if you want to check them out-- But be warned, some are really messed up.

I just thought of that Limp Bizkit’s Break Stuff parody I just figured out but for a webtoon. It’s one of those comics where the dialogue is padded out Every Harem is f-cked Every line on the panel sucks Each episode is tied to a Patreon link. You just want to rip the original author's head off A webcomic filled with clip studio assets. Each student/teacher hookup You never touched the grass Every line of dialogue is from Wattpad It’s one of those comics.
So I've only used Webtoons a couple times. One if NSFW is banned on a website I probably wont use it at all not because I wanna read it but because I wouldnt want an artist to be restricted in their story telling. I HATE THE SCROLLING stories, its probably the biggest reason I dont come back. Obviously as a consumer I like that its all free but I can see why people feel pressured to do free work
They need to due what Jump Did in the 90's. A massive cleanse that led to the arrival of the big 3 and gave the cutthroat method of today. Don't waste people and creators time with lies and stretched resources.
The thing about porn is that is subjective. The word itself was coined arbitrarily by a judge to classify certain erotic photos. Maybe it's just me - but I think they should just get rid of the term. Call it something less threatening - uwu or, fluffy wuffy. And I'm pretty sure people will stop making such a fuss about drawing naked cartoons. Problem solved. ;)
I think the main problem is Webtoon's marketing and demographics. Webtoon's isn't a kids site but, has guidelines are targeted towards children. A webcomic with content similar to Berserk wouldn't be allowed due to the guidelines. Manga has different genres targeted towards certain age groups. Maybe if the comics were able to be categized as all ages or 17+ then it would be a least excusable. At least attempt to address and distinguish certain content.
The whole internet is like webtoon as you talked about it. UA-cam is the same. It also has soft p. and it also has all the creator problems you talked about. So to talk about these things on youtube and say webtoon sucks feels hipocritical for me.
My problem is that for 300 coins. I get to spend 30 dollars. Then 7 coins for ep. Now about the so call porn. That like TV telenovelas on TV. Shit and bad and hypocrisy.

The funny thing is, Webtoon does have the option to label comics as "mature"... Yet it means little to nothing on the platform.

Nudity in and of itself isn't pornography. But if the whole story is about sex and there's an abundance of sex then yeah that's pretty much porn lol
