@@js1879 yeah, it probably would have ended up like the guy Tess and Joel found in the basement of the building in the first episode, the guy who had basically grown into the wall. Instead, Ellie and Riley's playing woke him up. It also makes you realize that Riley had been sleeping there for who knows how long with that guy not far away from where she slept.

It has been a beautiful torture. The sweetest moments feel worse than the tragic ones, like that scene with Joel and Ellie laughing destroyed me harder than Sam and Henry's death
The mall section of the game is really well done. In the game Ellie is having this wonderful adventure with Riley in one mall in the past while in the present she's desperately searching another mall for medicine for Joel. The juxtaposition is really interesting. The show does a good job of adapting it, though.
@@brianng8350 except its standing watching people shovel shit everyday, to her it aint worth it compared to working for the fireflies and working for something more
Additional little things that line up perfectly with this moment: 1) Marlene says to Ellie in episode 1: "Terrorist? Was Riley a terrorist?" (The mention of Riley, and the use of the past tense "was") 2) Ellie wearing this exact shirt the first time we see her in captivity with the fireflies, which likely means she was apprehended shortly after this all happened. The other thing that was brilliant writing is that the lone infected was attached to the wall (like we've seen other dead infected before in episodes 1 and 2). When FEDRA cleared the mall of infected before they boarded it up, they probably came upon that infected, thought he was dead, and moved along.

Imagine the emotional damage of being bitten along with the person you love. Waiting it out only to see them turn but then not turning yourself all while only being 14. As for the episode itself they did a brilliant job recapturing the majority of the DLC. Storm Reid and Bella Ramsey worked so well together and they made the teenage crush feel so real. From the little looks they were giving each other, to the giggling after Ellie finally made a move, just some top notch physical acting from both of them.
I loved the end of the episode where we see Riley make the declaration that we don’t give up and Ellie uses that for her final courage to find an answer and make it happen. Beautiful and heartbreaking.
Hey Hector! Just a heads up since you mentioned you were playing the game, this episode is the DLC for the game! The DLC is called “Left Behind” just like the episode, but it’s 100% worth the play! It plays out almost exactly like this episode and it’s so amazing. Hope you like it!
Exactly! Or for that matter, how many people were immune but were killed by bombs, FEDRA, Fireflies, raiders, etc etc, before they got a chance to find out.
Such an amazing episode. Love every bit of it! It made me think and talk about what we take for granted. My mom and I talked about, the video stores, the magazines of games that I still have. The joy on Ellie her face as she sees the wonders of the mall. Absoluty amazing, the connection between Riley and Ellie, and Ellie and Joel. Listening to the podcast after watching the episode made me smile. This show is amazing. I love it so much❤️
Riley was probably that person Ellie killed when she told Joel in episode 4 when she shot Bryan that "it wasn't my first kill". Riley probably turned and Ellie had to kill her. And if you didn't notice it, Ellie was wearing the same clothes she had on when we first see her with the fireflies in episode 1. Marlene probably found Ellie in the mall, saw that she and Riley had been bitten and that Ellie didn't turn but that Riley had, and she knew that Ellie may be immune.
Watching you guys squirm through all the lighthearted stuff is hilarious. I was sad throughout the episode because I played the DLC and Bella and Storm kill it as Ellie and Riley. I was crying on and off throughout the episode and full on ugly cried once the credits rolled. The performances were *chefs kiss* Knowing Riley’s fate made it hit harder
Not many know, but in Mortal Kombat II, Baraka and Mileena are lovers. It's a coincidence that Ellie and Riley chose to fight as them at the arcade. Whether the creators knew it or not, their gameplay did showcase a grim foreshadowing.
That and they witness the kiss of death = bite Riley receives from Stalker and Ellie performs a fatality with Baraka killing Mileena which we can assume she puts down Riley
18:00 I don’t think there’s any way Marlene would let Ellie go with Riley. The point of moving Riley is to separate her from emotional attachments so she can kill without remorse…or with less remorse anyway.
I'm still kind of confused as to how Marlene told Ellie (Veronica at that time) that she's the one who put her in the FEDRA orphanage...so did Marlene know she was immune all this time? Why would Marlene invest in Ellie/Veronica from such a young age? Did Marlene know Ellie's real parents? Were they also immune and Marlene was just waiting for Ellie to grow up and do the proper testing?
@@djoscartj *Spoilers for game version up to this point.* By now we knew that Marlene was close with Ellie’s mom who died within a day or so of Ellie’s birth. Marlene promised to watch over Ellie, but from a distance as she was leader of the Fireflies. One day Ellie and Riley snuck out and were in danger when Marlene and some Fireflies save them. She reveals their connection to Ellie and gives her some of her mom’s stuff, particularly the switchblade and a letter. After Riley turns but Ellie doesn’t, she goes looking for Marlene specifically because she knows Marlene promised to keep her safe, but anyone else would kill her.
Turtles in Time Hector... what a great shout! Loved that game and spent sooooooooooo much money on it back in the day! This was a great episode and loved the reaction. Gives us so much insight into why Ellie is the way she is and the trauma she has been through.

Haven't played or seen the games and the DLC. We're left to imagine that the Fireflies check in with Riley that morning (for her relocation to Atlanta). In episode 1, Marlene tells Ellie that she ordered her people not to shoot Ellie. I imagine that were it not for some yet unknown connection with Ellie's mother that I expect them to reveal before the season is over, Marlene wouldn't have considered waiting to see if Ellie would turn-that is *very* interesting. So Marlene likely went to the mall with some of her people and walked into one of two scenarios: (1) an angry and distraught Ellie with a discharged gun in her hand and a deceased Riley who turned before the Fireflies arrived; or (2) Riley in the process of turning and Ellie standing in the middle to keep the FF from killing her, but in the end either she or the Fireflies have to do the inevitable. Heartwrenching! Last week's episode left us with Ellie telling an unconscious Joel that she doesn't know what to do. Twice in that episode, she tells Joel that she's f***ed without him. This week's theme is of Ellie repeatedly being offered two choices (Joel: stay or leave), two paths (Cpt Kwang: channel your frustrations toward work your way up or let them control you and keep you in the bottom rung); two options (Riley: easy way or ride it out). In the last scene with Riley, Ellie asks for an Option 3. When we return to the present, Ellie identifies Option 3: It's to stay with Joel and for the first time, really step up and take the lead. First by finding a way to nurse him back to health while providing food and shelter for them both.
Watching your reaction made me realize how great this episode is. They made this episode as it gets you anxious since “you know what’s gonna happen yet you don’t know when and how it’s gonna happen”.

This episode was actually a DLC for the game, with the title of the DLC also being Left Behind, and in the game there actually was a whole hoard of infected that came after the girls at the end instead of just a single one. In the after show podcast for this show, the host(Troy Baker, the voice of Joel in the game) asks Neil Druckmann(one of the shows producers and the writer/producer of the 2 games themselves) why they decided to just have 1 infected attack the girls instead of a whole hoard, and he said it felt like it made sense in hindsight for it to just be a single infected due to the fact that Riley wasn't wrong when she asked Ellie "If it's sealed off then why isn't it SEALED OFF?" and also because we learn that those 3 weeks Riley's been gone she's obviously been staying at that mall for a while because the Fireflies posted her there. They also wanted to show that it doesn't take a whole hoard of infected for stuff to go wrong in this world and that even just one single infected by itself coming up on you and catching you off guard can be a death sentence.
I'm from iran and been watching you since hyper rpg times. Hope i could support your channel but feels good to see you guys doing great. I firsted watched your reaction videos to infinity war trailer lol. Time flies indeed.
It's interesting to see how FEDRA works differently in each QZ. Some are definitely worse than others. There's probably not much overarching federal oversight, so each FEDRA unit is kind of doing its own thing and the people in the QZ just have to hope their FEDRA leadership are going to be decent and not the Kansas City unit. I think Boston FEDRA is genuinely trying, but in a post apocalyptic wasteland you have to be strict to keep people alive.
I was doing the same thing as you guys - I wanted to just enjoy their fun at the mall, but the whole time I was waiting for infected to come out of the shadows
As someone whose made some very amateur edits himself, lemme say. MASTERFUL edit around A-Ha so we both get to hear you and you don't catch the strike 🤣
Ellie said everyone she cares for leaves or dies, literally while watching when Riley said she would stay I didn’t even want to watch. Because I knew she would die
What people don't know is that HBO stands for "Heart Breaking, Obviously" since they have a knack for heart-breakingly killing off loved characters in their shows.
You three crack me up with your humour, and I enjoy your observation of the finer details and your appreciation for the storytelling, especially the cast and crew! One of my favourite things about the show is how well they tie things back to other episodes with recurring themes or dialogue - only sorry there's only two episodes left of the season!
Adam, you are the effin man cuz when you all started naming arcade games you loved playing, we both said Cruisin World at about the same time! I don’t know if you guys have any out where you all live but we have a bar that is called Tokens Taproom that is an arcade/bar combo. Heavenly place😂😂
I laughed so hard at the Cringe Faces you guys made when Ellie started stitching up Joel. So hilarious! But so relateable because I cannot stand to see someone get stitches in a TV show or movie, even if it is supposedly a doctor doing it. And this was with a 20 year old spool of dusty thread, dirty needle that was rolling around on the floor a few seconds previously, done by a 14 year old girl who has no idea what she is doing.
It amused me greatly when both Adam and Ellie found it hilarious the dead body fell through the floor in an sitting upright position, and it was only Adam and Ellie that found it funny in that moment. 😅! I also agree this was a great episode. The way they used the whole magic of suspension in the writing to make you think something bad was coming for the longest time then going "ha! Fooled ya!" Before going "Syke! Here's the moment you e been dreading!" Was just utterly beautifully done. I feel like those who I've seen say it was another boring filler episode just aren't understanding the writing style and point of this story.
I may sound like a broken record, but this episode was damn beautiful. This was Bella Ramsey's episode to shine. I seriously, seriously don't understand the hate towards her as Ellie. She personifies Ellie just as well as Ashley Johnson. If you don't like it, fine. But, if you're gonna criticize it, p+$$ off. Also, if you have a problem with queer stories and representation, go jump off a cliff somewhere. Please and thank you. Storm Reid as Riley is amazing casting. I loved her vulnerability, her interaction with Ellie and her performance. Damn, her story is tragic. Excited for Episode 8 and the arrival of Troy f'in Baker. God, I'm hyped.
Is it just me or are you guys just getting funnier? Such good vibes this episode. Can’t wait for the next two- they’ll be rippers. Also looking forward to he Quantumania review!
Star Wars (The old wire-frame, Death Star battle one), Spyhunter (The sit-down one, with the awesome controller), every pin-ball machine in there, Street Fighter 2, Star Fox.
It's a small sample size but Kansas City showed what happened when the people are in charge. Kwong had a point. Jackson could be a point against but the way they protect that place, might as well be FEDRA.
I love the games.... I will never be okay... broken forever... there is a hole in my heart where all of these characters fit. It is kind of sick that I am watching you become broken in the same way. It is an incredible story/game/show...

I think Boston FEDRA is genuinely trying, but in a post apocalyptic wasteland you have to be strict to keep people alive.
I was doing the same thing as you guys - I wanted to just enjoy their fun at the mall, but the whole time I was waiting for infected to come out of the shadows
Bella really brought it. Damns....
The cut away was the same in the game
Pinball all day long guys- where’s my other pinball peeps??
You three crack me up with your humour, and I enjoy your observation of the finer details and your appreciation for the storytelling, especially the cast and crew! One of my favourite things about the show is how well they tie things back to other episodes with recurring themes or dialogue - only sorry there's only two episodes left of the season!
I love Time Crisis 😂
Great ep, great react, cheers boys!
I think it’s adorable that y’all think we’re gonna make it until 2060 😅❤
Love the reaction, as always
Ramsey acting is amazing.
Haha agustin got me at 9:39
Adam, you are the effin man cuz when you all started naming arcade games you loved playing, we both said Cruisin World at about the same time!
Never been this early. Ready to dive in!
Thanks! About to watch the uncut Patreon reaction!
No you did not sing " sock em boppers" ! 😂😂😂
That’s romantic as f 😂😂😂
It amused me greatly when both Adam and Ellie found it hilarious the dead body fell through the floor in an sitting upright position, and it was only Adam and Ellie that found it funny in that moment. 😅!
I also agree this was a great episode. The way they used the whole magic of suspension in the writing to make you think something bad was coming for the longest time then going "ha! Fooled ya!" Before going "Syke! Here's the moment you e been dreading!" Was just utterly beautifully done. I feel like those who I've seen say it was another boring filler episode just aren't understanding the writing style and point of this story.
When you can play Left Behind. You will love it especially the Halloween shop.
hbo: it’s not tv, it’s too fuckin sad!
"aw man, that's romantic as FUCK 👹" lmao
My mall didn’t look like that but it sure as hell felt like this. Well said
The Nicole Kidman line 🫡
I was dreading this episode, especially since I played the game. 😢
That dead body said, "You two are idiots for taking the stairs!" :)
I just watched Hector break Kang before starting this. 😂😂. Well played bro.
Star Wars (The old wire-frame, Death Star battle one), Spyhunter (The sit-down one, with the awesome controller), every pin-ball machine in there, Street Fighter 2, Star Fox.
Thanks, Adam! Thanks, Hector! Thanks, Agustin! 🏬 #HeroesReforged #TheLastOfUs #TLOU #TheLastOfUsHBO
I was so tense this whole episode haha. I expected bad things to happen all the time.
It's a small sample size but Kansas City showed what happened when the people are in charge. Kwong had a point. Jackson could be a point against but the way they protect that place, might as well be FEDRA.
"F U for short?" 🤣😂 And Riley Sade... Smooth Operator... Horror Date Night.
Galaga is the game.
I love the games.... I will never be okay... broken forever... there is a hole in my heart where all of these characters fit. It is kind of sick that I am watching you become broken in the same way. It is an incredible story/game/show...
I enjoyed this episode, when I watched, but really enjoyed it more watching with you guys. I still think the Bill/Frank episode is my fav, followed by or even with the episode with Joel and Tommy, then the second one in KC.
