Adding to Snow White: She was so sweet, innocent and kind that she actually APOLOGIZED for not staying calm after the forest experience. She says that she feels ashamed for making such a noise. Like, please, darling! You have every right to be upset.
The way I see it, it is not only that she is sweet, but just like cinderella, being raised with a cruel mother, who abused her. She is a princess who is cleaning the palace, for the love of god.
Snow White gets unnecessary amounts of hate from the Twitter feminists because she’s not a “strong woman”. She’s clearly more stronger than freaking Elsa! She offered to cook and clean for the dwarves in return of a place to stay, she had ANIMALS help her with the cooking and cleaning, and she stayed pretty calm knowing that the queen, her own STEPMOTHER, wanted her dead.
@@lovelycloudyskies 1-why not just call ‘em Twitter WANNABES? 2-apparently according to the Twitter wannabes you shouldn’t “need” a man in any shape way or form at all cause he’s gonna make you “weak” somehow and so therefore Elsa would’ve been the one a whole lot stronger than a young/er woman daring to desire simply that she’d be reunited with her much beloved prince and literally sings the song “someday my prince will come” and there’s nothing really wrong with wanting such a nice romance of course even if it’s been done a lot it still doesn’t mean everybody should be against a desirable love filled life like thanks but maybe there’s absolutely nothing wrong with not wanting to continue being single forever like just why should I do that? I don’t wanna continue being miserably stuck with my immediate family for always like just how about just FREAKIN HELL SHIT NO
@@noorbohamad5796I mean im all for the prince not really being in the new movie, he was only there for a max of 5 minutes in the og anyway, but like is that really your main marketing plan? Like im a feminist myself but they couldve just not said anything about the prince thing.
Plus in Cinderella time period she got 2 other choices besides staying. Marriage or prostitution. She has done her best to keep her spirits up despite the abuse.
a lot of people forget the time period bit for marriage ages also people married younger back then cause most people didn't make it past 30 or 40 with all the famines and plagues about.
Back then, boys who came of age were leaving on their own to learn a profession and then either come back or settle down somewhere. This was still risky with robbers and murderers all around them. It would have been even more dangerous for girls - the thing is with people easily dying, having children was a high priority. Thus women were more sacred and protected, since they could only have kids - and only so for a certain amount of time, since fertility of women decreases sooner than that of men. Puberty starts around the same time and thus the ability to have kids - but in the cases of them marrying into their own age, they usually had trouble managing with their lives since the men hadn't earned enough money yet or much to offer. So girls were married off to men in their 20s and 30s who already owned stuff, made a living and offered stability. They were also seen as being more mature than young boys, caring more about family than adventure.
@@strawberrykitty1755 That's not the element in the story made princesses the portrayal of gold diggers. Those are the hidden subliminal messages and signs what surrounds the princesses and their environment built into their deeds. On normal circumstances, their deeds are completely harmless to underaged audiences, but what the story keep telling us, on severe situations where Disney princesses doesn't give much reason for us to protect them in an arguement will render them being a threat to many girls childhood, what will render them being alone forever, because once these girls grow up, they will never find their true love, because they will never understand that men are not necessarily the enemies of women. Dominance hungriness and financial needs kill any relationship. Both men and women are equal and that's what society must understand as a whole or else many of us in the world will remain unhappy.
Fr, I just got into a bit of an argument with a coworker this week about Snow White. Her reason for not liking Snow White is "Because the dwarfs treat her like a wife." & I was like "???? She offered her services to clean & cook for them because that's something she already knew how to do & didn't wanna just laze about their house & mooch off of them!" Coworker's response? She brushed me off for not having the same view point as her & walked away. 😮💨
People harp on Philip for kissing Aurora without her consent when he was literally doing the one thing that could save her FOR the PURPOSE of saving her. When giving CPR, which is the closest real world thing to what he did, you do not need consent to perform it and save the person's life. It is reasonable to assume that they would want their life saved if they've never indicated otherwise. Aurora didn't give consent to be cursed, obviously, so it reasonable to believe that she didn't want to be in a coma forever. Plus, she was hypnotized into touching the spindle. Even when you take out the whole romance part, Philip was being a good samaritan. If he hadn't known the kiss would do that and was just doing it for pleasure, then that would be creepy, but Maleficent literally laid it all out for him when he was in the dungeon. He KNEW that he needed to save her in this way. And considering that the original tale was anything but wholesome, this Disney adaptation of the story isn't really that problematic by comparison. Disney made it family-friendly.
@@quinnfletcher3906 Any successful cases though? Idk about the US but there have been no successful cases where I live in the UK. There are laws in place depending on where you live that protect you if you're genuinely trying to save a life and you broke their rib or something performing CPR or in this case they sue you for sexual assault.
Let's face it, Maleficent would have pulled some kind of stunt even if she had been invited. She's a SADIST. She sends a frost to ruin Flora's flowers, she's that petty. I think the King and Queen figured she'd be _insulted_ at the suggestion of attending what amounts to a baby shower. "You _DARE_ to waste _MY TIME_ with something so trivial?! Well, here's what I think of your precious baby!" Proceeds to put a death curse on Aurora.
There’s apparently a deleted scene on the dvd of a storyboard sequence that has King Stefan deliberately snubbing Maleficent saying and I quote, “Wherever Maleficent goes…sorrow follows in her wake”. Haters of this film clearly didn’t take any Latin courses, because her name literally means “evil-doer”! This is why I and others love her the most as a spiteful, hardcore villain…she takes the most gleeful joy in doing evil, yet maintains a sophisticated elegance up until she’s forced to unleash all her hellish power and fury! A true villainess in a pure, moral fairytale…both rare things in our world of entertainment today.
@@whitelioness87 and she is considered the Lex "Frustrating" Luthor of all the Disney Villains whom everyone fears...even other villains...and I headcanon that since she is also voiced by Elenor Audley (and today Susan Blakesley) that Lady Tremaine was just a disguise to see if she could be intimidating without using magic. The answer to that? Absolutely.
People really seem to underestimate the strength that comes from genuine kindness and compassion, especially when experiencing such hardship and unfairness.
That is because we live in a society that equates cruelty with strength. In today's age of "girl bosses," we assume that if a woman is nice then she is weak and if she is mean she is strong.
Also in Sleeping Beauty, the prince is helped by the three fairies in escaping Maleficent's castle. Three probably middle-aged to elderly women assist in helping the young man.
The amount of victim blaming Cinderella gets is atrocious. When I finally escaped my own situation... I found her the most relatable princess and fell back in love with the Disney classic. 😢 Plus where is she gonna go? Sometimes it's hard but better to withstand the abuse until you can figure out how to escape safely!
Yeah. Now that I think about it. Poor Cinderella would not be able to survive if she escaped. She would have been homeless and unable to make any money in one day. At least, thanks to her unconditional kindness, her mice and fairy godmother helped her escape the abuse because they returned the kindness
Speaking of Aurora’s gifts, the thing that people fail to under understand is that she’s a literal CROWN PRINCESS. She’s already going to have a stellar education for her position and time, making her knowledgeable in both strategies and relations. If we use the historical context argument as well, Aurora being the only child means she will inherit her fathers kingdom (as well as Phillip with his own father) most likely merging kingdoms, hence her being not only Crown Princess, but an actual queen in her own birthright. (As compared to queen consort, who is only queen through marriage) so even the argument of a gift for independence falls flat when she’ll be on equal standing to a king. So to sum it up, the fairy gifts we see in both book and movie are literal add-on’s to what is already going to be given to Aurora.
There is a Sleeping Beauty story where there are seven? Faires and intelligence is a repeat gift with each one making her slightly more intelligent everytime. The princess doesn't have fun though because everyone thinks she's a know it all and the adults resented a royal kid for telling them how to do their job. In real life, how many people would say intelligence is a gift any, most people I know hate it or hate the intelligent person for being an arrogant know it all
14:17 the fact that people get angry over Aurora’s gifts is so weird. In the movie the most stand out things about her is that she is extremely beautiful and extremely good singer, so why would she get gifts that she wouldn’t be able to show off? Sidenote, those scenes are so beautifully animated.
They all are to be honest. Too nice? You're a push over, weak, and perpetuating sexist stereotypes. Stand up for yourself? You're pushy, rude, and hate femininity.
It´s always the nicest ones that are more unfairly treated but then for example some treat Anastasia Tremaine, a former bully, as some sort of martyr and godly figure and the only reason she has fans it´s because it´s an ugly girl who finds love and that isn´t common in Disney
@@cierudaeru that one actually does have novel basis though. It is explicity made clear in the Perrault and Bros. Grimm versions that Anastasia is the nicer and younger of the two stepsisters. It was Anastasia who changed Drizella's nickname of Cinder-Not Appropriate to say at all to Cinderella afterall for Ella swept and slept by the fireplace to keep warm...and the cinders got in both her feet and her hair...and this is why the Disney version appears strawberry blonde in the movies as an adult not living happily with Prince Christopher, but blonde when she's living with Prince Christopher and as a child before Lady Tremaine begins her abuse.
Cinderella was the princess that taught me how to survive a toxic home. For the time period this princess was integral to children's survival. Ariel acquires shady help to get out of home, snow white has to run away, sleeping beauty was smuggled into hiding. But Cinderella out right tells Bruno he must play by the house script or they could be out on their own with no bed no food no clothes. For the upbringing most of us had I feel like Cinderella really was a necessary princess to watch if you wanted to survive your home
I'd like to add something about Cinderella: I hear people saying "Oh, she just so happens to have one of her slippers fall off at the most convenient moment for the plot twist". Actually, when we see her do her chores, we see her slipper fall off once as well, kind of like a foreshadowing or an indicator that this thing happens. In total, Cinderella loses her slipper three times.
@@JessaGrace091887 Sad thats superglue or duct tape wasn't invented yet. Would have made it easier for her to keep her shoes on.... Btw that was a joke, don't actually stick those two to your skin
@@strawberrykitty1755 Funny thing is, the prince in the og Perault version of Cinderella did use some kind of superglue on the floor in an attempt to catch Cinderella because Cinderella literally kept running away from him. The superglue did caught Cinderella's one shoe.
I can't understand how someone can hate Cinderella. She have such a good heart, she's so humble and kind even if everything around her tries to break her down she still keep her dreams and kindness inside of her. She's truly a princess and I can't seen how someone can see this as a bad role model.
they arent as bombastic as the newer princesses are but they are still free and their own person. sadly nowadays a lot of girls are taught that asking for help or wanting to find love makes them somehow "weak" or is something bad. But i think a lot of people also misremember a lot about the movies and dont bother rewatching them. same goes for the princes, everyone just remembers it like "ah he was a nice person that means he was boring".
Prince Florian was actually really sweet towards Snow White, but people label him as a p3dophile because some rando on the internet said he was 30 when he was actually 18 in the casting sheets. Prince Philip fought his way to save Aurora, but they hate him because he kissed her without consent when she was in a literal FREAKING COMA WITH THE ONLY CURE IS A TRUE LOVE’S KISS. (Florian kissing Snow White was kinda weird, but it was a goodbye kiss) Charming actually hit it off with Cinderella, but they don’t like him because he’s basic. (He actually had a personality in Cinderella 3) I would rather have them than an evil anime villain who’s a major red flag
And the thing is with the apple scene, even after she lets her into the house Snow White doesn’t just take the apple without hesitation, like a lot of people seem to think. The queen literally has to back the girl into a corner. Also, here’s an interesting fact about the queen’s fake heart attack: apparently the voice actress was so convincing they had to ask her if she was okay in the recording booth.
Snow White didn’t immediately take the apple, the Queen had to trick her into thinking it was a wishing apple. Snow White wished for her crush to take her away to his castle and took a bite. Funny enough, he kisses her, causing her to wake up. and brings her back to his castle, so her wish did come true after all.
People who victim-blame Cinderella are the worst. The shot where Cinderella leans back, clearly terrified of Lady Tremaine, when all she did was step forward? My father was the same way. Never raised a hand to us, but his emotional abuse and sometimes intimidation felt like it hurt more than being hit. I'm 33, and I'm STILL recovering from years of his abuse. I STILL get highly anxious if someone's impatient with me, because it brings me right back to how my dad treated me. Abuse leaves lifelong scars, and it's VERY HARD to escape. I see Cinderella as the strongest Disney Princess, and saw her kindness in the face of cruel abuse as an inspiration when I was younger. It's an ideal I keep to today, to just be kind.
Cinderella stayed not only because she had no where to go, she cared for her animals and wouldn't abandon them. A lone, beautiful female wouldn't have lasted out on the streets.
Aurora has always been my favorite Disney princess ever since I was a child. It is so sad seeing the hate towards the old disney princesses just because they think they aren't "strong" enough like the modern princesses. So what if they can't swing a sword? So what if they are gentle, feminine, and soft spoken? It doesn't mean they are weak or bad representation of women. The victim blaming is also very extreme, its crazy. And the old princesses ARE independent women because they were able to handle themselves despite the situations they were in. Marrying doesn't make you dependent, weak, or lesser. Every disney princess is strong. In fact, not a single one is weak.
I think people need to also take into account the time period Cinderella takes place in. Weren't a whole lot of career opportunities for women even of leaving an abusive home was as easy as just leaving. Especially if she decided "i don't need no man".
I'd like to add something for Chapter 3: you're right, it's nearly everybody's story, not just Aurora's story, and the main players in it suffers or has suffered from something: like Aurora's parents suffer from being separated from their daughter because of the curse, Maleficent has shown that she has had her share of suffering based on the live action movies and from what Fauna said about Maleficent not being very happy or not being as bad as she people make her out to be, the good fairies suffer from their mistake of unintentionally revealing their and Aurora's location in the forest. However, both Aurora and Phillip suffer the most throughout the movie: Aurora gets cursed as a baby, she is forced away from the life she knew after learning it was a lie, including being forced away from the kind stranger (whom she had no clue was Prince Phillip, and he in return doesn't know that the peasant girl he met in the forest was really the princess he was betrothed to), and she ultimately falls victim to the curse. Phillip, meanwhile, get ambushed by Maleficent and her goonies and imprisoned with the intention of being there for 100 years, and ultimately has to literally fight his way to get to the princess and break the curse (yes, he had help, but still doesn't detract from how hard it is to escape from someone like Maleficent and take her down while she's in her dragon form, especially when alone). But in the end, all the trials and tribulations they faced was well rewarded in their own way: Aurora was kind and compassionate and sacrificed her life to fulfill her royal duty (she could've rebelled, but she didn't), and Phillip managed to break the curse in the end. Both Aurora and Phillip's rewards were found in each other, they both earned their happily ever after.
@AngeW-vm4kx Her backstory was so dumb. “My boyfriend r*ped me, so now I’m evil” is the most generic villain thing I’ve ever heard of. What would’ve been better is that she was raised by fairies and was taught magic, but she used it for her own desires when she got older and eventually became evil. That would’ve been way better than that dumb backstory they gave her
8:40 even if Cinderella could gatter the strenght to try to stand up to her abusers It's 3 of them and one of her How could she ever hope to over power them? It's safe to assume she rarely leaves the house and even if she did she's a woman in medieval times so it's not like anyone would listen to her if she asks for help
Aurora has always been my absolute favorite!! Honestly, I resonate the most with the first three Disney princesses so much. I see myself within each of them in so many different ways, but mostly that they gain strength from their femininity. They are happy in love and they yearn for love, but they are also content before they meet their princes. They are strong, independent women in their own ways. I have literally done the same thing as Aurora my whole life 😂 (I used to pretend to dance with someone who loved me) Also, people don’t understand that most of the princesses are literal CHILDREN! (Teenagers are legally children and are developmentally not adults)
The why didn’t Cinderella leave argument annoys the crap out of me. Considering you wouldn’t just go up to an abuse victim and ask why don’t you just leave
Cinderella is my favorite Disney princess. She’s the victim of misreading and cursory examinations that paint her as a passive and weak character, when in actuality she has the most strength of character and moral courage of any of the Disney princesses, and that’s not a slight I think that all the Disney princesses are great. Her kindness and compassion are strengths that I aspire to, and they are character traits that we should all take in and try to emulate. Yeah Cinderella’s great.
the fact Cinderella wanted to go to the ball to have a good time. She never wanted to meet the prince. The prince noticed her and she experiences a new emotion of love making her speechless as if living in a dream. Then when midnight stroke, she left the prince.
there is nothing wrong with kindness and humility, especially in trying circumstances. it takes an incredible amount of inner strength to remain kind, either to yourself or others, in the face of cruelty and abuse. there is also something to be said for the value of hard work, and it's part of what makes these older princesses so timeless. also, the scene of cinderella's dress getting ruined makes me fucking cry. i hate it. it's absolutely awful.
I think it's a good thing that Aurora wasn't gifted intelligence or anything like that because it means that her intelligence (because she isn't stupid) was hers by her own merits.
Something I love about the Fairy Godmother is how she makes me think of a loving mother/grandmother figure outside of Cinderellas life and family. One of the first people in so long to finally be kind to her. She can't save cinderella, all she can do is give her one night she can enjoy, but she does what she can (like how people outside of an abusive family often cannot do much in order to help the victim, but still provide them comfort and kindness). She is the hope that cinderella needs to keep going. If cinderella kept sitting there alone with no one to help, nothing would have changed. Because its out of her power. She needed the kindness and help of people around her, and that is ok. We shouldn't look down on people who just need help, and it doesn't make her any less strong.
I'd like to add a few more points. 1) It goes against the idea that there can be multiple ways to be a role model. Not everyone needs to be a "strong, independent woman", and not everyone can be just a "strong, independent woman". We need to normalise that having fears and needing others to help doesn't make someone weak. 2) Same goes for wanting to settle down with a man. I agree that's not what any of the Disney princesses wanted to do necessarily, but I often see this as an argument for them not being good role models, as if wanting to be just be a housewife (and especially a mother) somehow makes you lesser than women with a paying career. Of course, there's more nuance to this argument since it was the expected role of AFABs for a long time, but I still stand by the opinion that anyone should be allowed to be what they want to be if it doesn't harm others.
I do get a kick out of how Cinderella reacts in shock when she hears her stepmother saying the prince is in love and looking for the mystery girl who left her glass slipper behind and she’s so shocked she drops a tray like “GASP! The…prince…!?!” lol you can hear the gears going in her head
All three of these princesses we're big roles models for me as a kid and even now. Instead of watching the movie and understanding the actual meaning most just assume and don't look into it like idiots. I especially sympathized with Cinderella being my favorite of the three because of how relatable she was for me in my situation. Every time I see the scene when they rip her dress and she runs to cry I get severe anxiety and almost cry how accurately it depicted abuse and anxiety. This scene especially affected me as a kid. I always went by what Cinderella said and always hoped for my dreams of happiness to come true. I also sympathized and favorited the other two for how accurately they again perfectly depicted stuff I was going through. These characters hold a special place in my heart for helping me through it all💖.
I can’t even watch those cheesy teen Cinderella adaptations because of how much abuse the MC gets until the ending. The best one is Not Cinderella’s Type, the love interest actually confronts the MC about the abuse she gets.
Thank you! All very much true. People keep expecting these princesses to be more, that they were made with sexist mindsets, all without realizing they are being sexist themselves in another way. Yes, some things of the time periods to set them in certain views back then, but there is still so much attention given into making them full characters if you pay attention to the smallest details. The problem is, people don't want to pay attention. They need everything explained to them. For example, Aurora/Briar Rose is one of my favorites for how fascinating she is. People say she's bland, but I see so much story with her. She was born as Princess Aurora but raised as the peasant Briar Rose. Imagine the identity crisis she would keep facing, between having to fulfill her duty while still wanting to live as she did comfortably. Aurora might just end up being a title to her while Briar Rose is the name she is comfortable with. Plus, so many small details sand out with a little thinking. Her willingness to walk barefoot in the woods shows how free spirited she is. Her being raised by fairies means she may not know enough about human values and that could give her some quirks, such as with the animals dancing with her in Phillip's clothes. She never sees it as odd and goes with it, showing how that nurturing has affected her. She has a trollish side with how she built up how she met someone, only to disappoint the animals when she reveals it was a dream. She is coy and flirtatious whether when playing with the animals and with Phillip as she takes off, building further interest in her as she makes herself more enticing. And while she cried at never having to see him again despite meeting once, bear in mind, she has never met anyone else. This was a special meeting to her, and it's being ripped away. Because she was raised without ever being allowed to meet anyone else, it has affected her emotionally, unable to properly grow as needed. Where people see bland, I see story. It just helps to pay attention and put some thinking into the matter. Same with Snow White and Cinderella.
14:06 " why didn't they give her the gift of intelligence or independence" I have another comments: Beauty was favoured more than the mind in women from the 14th century ( Phillip says it's the fourteenth century himself) being Beautiful & wealthy was a meal ticket to good fortune. Even Ursula says something similar "you have your looks, your pretty face & don't underestimate the power of body language" being Beautiful was the best thing for someone to have becouse it allowed them to succeed. Look at Phillip at start Vs end: he goes from " that girl is groos" to " this maiden is so beautiful I will give up my crown to be with her"
Snow isn't 14 in the film, she's 18-20, as is the Prince. Disney has confirmed this already- but everything else you've said is true. I hate that people slander the og princesses so much, it's time for people to stop lying about the classics to put down femininity. Being feminine isn't a crime.
Yes, she is 14. The book Art of Walt Disney confirms that. Her prince is 18. (Completely normal age gaps in medieval Europe.) Otherwise, I agree with you 😊
another thing about the prince from cinderella, in the third movie he when he sees Anastacia immediately says that she wasn't the girl he danced at the ball, it's only when he is magically brainwashed by the lady Tarmane that he starts to believe that Anastacia was the girl that he danced with. So, you are absolutely right about that! the slipper's order was made by the king and neither he nor the duke saw Cinderella up close, they would have no way of knowing that it was her, in the live action it was much smarter for the prince to have gone to prove that it was cinderella at the end of the film, he didn't even need to put on the shoe, he knew it was her! he's not stupid, he just wasn't allowed to go after her with the duke for some reason in the original.
Plus the Duke tried to tell the king what dumb idea it was but the king was so eager for grandchildren that he wasn't going longer than he had to and that meant getting his son hitch asap.
The reason why the prince wasn't allowed was because the king wanted to get him by his word of marrying "whomever" fits the slipper. Basically any lass that happened to fit the shoe (and there might have been some) would have been lead to the palace. If Cinderella hadn't been among them, the King would have forced the prince to pick one of the girls or he'd pick one himself.
14:17 the fact that people get angry over Aurora’s gifts is so weird. In the movie the most stand out things about her is that she is extremely beautiful and extremely good singer, so why would she get gifts that she wouldn’t be able to show off? Sidenote, the scenes are so beautiful animated.
Cinderella: workplace-bullied to furious extent, I attest fully that to walk away is *not easy.* Bully cases have multi-layers - e.g. such self-esteem smackdown that autonomy to act is crushed.
I will defend Aurora till my last day. She is my favourite princess just because of her beauty, kindness and grace and I want her to be happy. She is not main heroine in the story. She may be like mucguffin. The main characters are the free fairies. I love them dearly and I'm always getting upset when they loose Rose (Aurora) who is like daughter to them. I have some friends who are nice, beautiful, charming and naive like Aurora but I love them just for their existance in my life and I want then to be happy. I imagine myself as a fairy who takes care of Aurora😊
[Rubs my hands together] Oh YES my favorite topic, Why Aurora was and is Deeply Underrated. 1. It wasn't just a party, it was a Christening. That was THE social event of the day. Even if you didn't LIKE the person, you were obligated to at least invited them so they could at least decline. Not inviting the most POWERFUL FAERIE IN THE REALM in that context was practically begging Maleficent to show up and wreck havoc. 2. Maleficent was even generous enough to offer the royal couple a way out of the social faux pas by saying 'my invitation must have been lost in the mail', which when you slight a FAE folk? That's just hyper generosity. But the good fairies screw that up MIGHTILY by speaking FOR the royal family, goading them into acting petty towards the most POWERFUL FAERIE IN THE REALM, sealing Aurora's doom through no ill doing of her own. The LEAST the fairies owed the royal couple was 16 years as mortals, that could have been the entire kingdom in ruins if she wanted. 3. Aurora gets raised as a farmer girl by three fairies who are A. Dumb enough to goad the MISTRESS Of ALL EVIL into cursing a human kingdom on the kingdom's behalf, B. have never lived as mortals before and since they aren't risking outside contact need to learn it all by scratch, and C. half the time are bickering like children themselves or otherwise completely tuned out of reality. The emotional heavy lifting Aurora probably had to do in a house with emotionally immature guardians, even loving ones, must have been an immense pressure on her, especially with absolutely no other living soul to vent to. 4. Speak of no other living soul--no other person. No other viewpoints. No one teaching her what to do and how to be except three fairies so goodly and out of touch they think that springing a Princess Life Change on her 16th birthday with no lead in is going to go over well. The ones who know all about the power of true love and fairytale endings and not a thing else. Do you know how many fairytales were "the disobedient daughter had her eyes gouged out and was very miserable forever"? No wonder Aurora never developed any rebellious or "plucky independent" behavior, what examples would she have learned from? What would be worth risking Bad Daughter Karmic Retribution? 5. She clearly grows up tough, clever and capable despite all this--she's walking barefoot through the English forest and over raw wooden tree trunks, high above yawning chasms. She's plucking berries from the briar bare handed, without a scratch. She can tell her mothers are plotting for her birthday, and has the good sense to both give them the space to do their work as well as the humor to pretend they deceived her to preserve their clearly delicate egos. Not to mention all the unseen labor she has to have learned how to do to be 100% self sufficient, without it seems even merchants nearby to get to know. 6. For the first time in her ENTIRE LIFE she speaks to another human being (falling straight into a fairytale trope of love at the sight of a handsome stranger, but again--raised by storybook fairies with an extremely twee and ungrounded idea of reality. If she sees her first chance at human contact as love, could you blame her?), and in that moment gains the courage to go against her mothers for the very first time--meeting, talking to, dancing with and even inviting back the stranger she met to their house. She takes the initiative! She takes her first steps towards independence! It might seem small from the outside but she's doing it! 7. And then it all comes crashing down. The Bad Daughter Karma catches up. Her life is a lie. Her mothers are caring for her as penance for what they cursed her with. The kingdom is expecting not just a princess, but The Princess who was literally named 'Aurora' with the expectation that she would be the glorious dawn of a new age in the kingdom. Briar Rose has to be completely discarded, overnight, to make way for the only person anyone was actually waiting for, Aurora. And she has no say in any of this. Briar Rose was dead before she was even born. 8. Princess is a pretty picture in a fairy tale, but it's a political position. It's etiquette, politics, social studies, arithmetic, economic study, diplomacy, decorum, ritual, regalia, history, and leadership among many many other things. Look me in the eyes and tell me Merryweather had the qualifications to teach Aurora the royal lineage of the Spanish aristocracy, or that Flora was working in lessons on the finer points of networking among scheming political rivals between daily chores. Our girl Briar has absolutely not been prepared for this, and the faeries wouldn't even think to try, would they? Look into your heart. 9. And at the end of it all? There is no truly happy ending for her here. She must kill the girl she's been for Aurora, the girl everyone's known in their heart and made into their savior for 16 long and spindle-less years, to take her place, cause she's the important one. Not 16 years of a life lived in hard earned happiness, but Princess Aurora. She will never truly be able to trust the three people she was ever allowed to talk to again. She will have to learn how to talk to people in only the highest pressure situation possible, in the viney throes of political court. She has to become a perfect leader from nothing, or no one's sacrifice or long waiting was even worth it. The only light in this tunnel she has is that her first choice, the only choice she ever got to make, chose her too. And that, at least, is a part of Briar Rose that lives on. I feel so, so strongly about Aurora. Can you tell?
@@strawberrykitty1755 YO HELLO. No way, I only go in this hard for Aurora--you fought in every girl's corner! Thank you so much for doing my girl justice!
@@MetanteiTriforce interesting for the Queen Novels it's Aurora's turn in September and they're setting it in Austria...although v.a. and oldest living classic princess Mary Costa said it kept flip-flopping between British due to her enjoying maintaining the accent and German by the time the movie was released. That said? I do think setting it in Austria makes much more sense especially since Aurora's doing an almost- Julie Andrews thing in the hillside and for all we know she could have Maria as an alias.
I think the biggest problem with the Disney Princesses is the Disney Princess brand and merchandise. The merchandise frequently consists of products and abridged books that water down and miss the nuances of their respective movies. It also doesn’t help that the Disney Princess brand launched a year before Shrek. Once that movie came out, it became cool to mock Disney fairytales and tropes which opened the floodgates to bad faith criticism that Disney seems to have taken to heart.
One thing that I’d like to point out about Cinderella (though I may have more): IF you look at Cinderella during the woods bit after the ball, just before the slipper is pointed out, you see that she has accepted that the ball was a one off magical evening that’s now just a fond memory she can recall. She never thought that she’d see the man at the ball again and she probably would never get another chance like that. It’s only after finding out that the man was the prince and he’s looking for her to marry him she sees that she finally had a way out. Something she deserves after over a decade at least of abuse.
It was do to Cinderella’s kindness that her friends helped her. They made her her first dress, they helped her to get to the ball Ann’s they helped her get out of the tower. Because they knew she did the same for them.
Another thing about Snow White and her cleaning the dwarves' house that people miss, is that it's their house and Snow White is a fugitive of the Evil Queen, the sole monarch and harboring her is basically a death sentence for them. Frankly, helping around the house is the least Snow can do and it shows that she's not the type of person who thinks she can get her way just because she's pretty and a princess. She knows that the Queen is hunting her and if she's found she will be killed, so this might be her last safe haven and cleverly uses the skills she acquired to be allowed to stay longer. Honestly, my opinion about the original 3 is that they're just average people but stuck in God awful situations that they're trying to escape from but are limited by societal restraints.
The biggest issue is that for these earlier films, Disney focused on the humorous aupporting characters. As a result, Cinderella is the only one you can judge fairly--and people often misjudge her character. Snow White and Aurora are characters who you can find the good in, though Disney doesn't give them much time to work with.
I find it ironic how people hate on Aurora cause “oh she was saved by a man” when there was a part where prince Philip was actually kidnapped by maleficent and needed the Fairies (who were woman too) to not only save him but give him the weapons used to slay the villain. And why do people hate in the princesses claiming there “bland” or “one note” when I’d argue the princes have less personality
13:08 Also here’s a thought I've had for a couple years now about Maleficent cursing a child for not being invited: that’s kind of a reductive interpretation of her motives, don’t you think? I mean, think about this for a second: Maleficent is literally known as “The Mistress of All Evil” in this world she lives in, and is clearly recognized and feared by all the kingdoms attending the christening. Maleficent doesn’t get this kind of reputation just cuz she wears a dramatic-looking outfit, has a horde of goblin creatures, and lives in a spooky castle on top of a mountain. She gets this reputation because she is one of the most powerful beings in the land and probably has a lot of other kingdoms under her thumb: paying her tributes, bribes, or even favors to leave them alone in the form of magical deals, wealth, and food! (It’s not cheap feeding a castle full of goblin like creatures😂) With that in mind, what does it say when a large kingdom is popular enough to have a massive number of influential guests (many probably living under Maleficent’s thumb) willingly attend a christening for a baby and yet fails to invite you: a powerful and equally influential faerie with a very fearsome reputation😬…well it either means they’re not afraid of you and are trying to make a statement with that by not giving you an invitation💁🏼♀️✨ or they’re stupid/forgetful and something happened to the invitation you were supposed to get (like the messenger falling off a cliffside ledge or into a dark abyss of sharp stalagmites while traversing the INCREDIBLY steep and seemingly landslide prone mountain that Maleficent’s castle is perched on😬…I like to imagine it’s the bard guy from the movie that gets so drunk he passes out under the table😂) Either way, that threatens Maleficent’s grip on the other kingdoms which she obviously won’t tolerate so she makes a grand entrance as a power move, offering the rulers a chance to correct their mistake (verbally I might add) there and then by apologizing for the invitation and welcome her as an invited guest, thereby avoiding her wrath. After all, imagine what they might’ve heard about other kingdoms that made the mistake of snubbing her😬. Unfortunately, we don’t know which answer the king and queen would’ve given because rude lil Merryweather decided to do it for them by saying “You weren’t wanted!😡”. Maleficent however plays off this lil jab quite graciously in my opinion as she calmly replies in a rather playfully tone “Not want-ohohoho deaaar what an awkward situation. Well in that case, I’d best be on my way” while she slowly turns to begin her exit. That whole response both visually and verbally offered the rulers one more chance to correct the mistake by apologizing for Merryweather and extending their invitation. Unfortunately, the queen didn’t get the hint😂 and basically validated Merryweather’s jab by saying “And…you’re not offended your excellency?” (Note the title of respect in there). I think THAT is what lead Maleficent to finally decide to curse the child cuz let’s face it, she gave them their chance to save face and invite her, so now she’ll have to make an example of them instead and remind everyone else not to make the same mistake!😬 (hence the baby being the main target since she was the whole reason for this in the first place and maleficent probably couldn’t resist the irony of it all) It’s really quite fascinating and makes sense if you think about it!=3 if you don’t account for the Maleficent movie of course💁🏼♀️✨
The thing in sleeping beauty that always bothered me was when the fairies were trying to make the cake and dress, they had absolutely no idea what they were doing, like at all. How did they manage to take care of a baby and raise her to 16 without knowing how to cook or sew? Seriously, how? It makes no sense. They couldn't use their magic for all those years. How did those dingbats survive and keep a kid alive? Where did they get food? They weren't used to doing anything normal like humans and Merryweather doesn't look like she's missed any meals.
meals back in the day were very simple, like bread, berries, fruits, and stew. so a cake would be very complex for them id imagine. it probably still tasted great its shape was the main problem. same goes for the dress, its one complicated piece of clothing instead of wearing multiple things like a skirt is very simple on its own and her cape is just a square of fabric.
@@djinnspalace2119 well, the dress wasn't that much more complicated than a blouse and they definitely would have had to sew clothes for her growing up so it still didn't make sense to me. It's just a plot hole that was overlooked.
Also want to point out the reason why lady Tremaine or the stepsisters didn’t recognize Cinderella at the ball was because the fairy godmother used magic so they couldn’t recognize Cinderella.
Thank you for posting! Aurora is one of my favorite princesses, so I especially appreciated her section. i really liked your point about the gifts - it's not like beauty and singing are *bad* things! And yes, I always love her quick turnaround from "Never!" to "This evening!" : )
In Finland the story of Sleeping Beauty is known as 'Prinsessa Ruusunen' which means 'Princess Rose'. I guess the straight translation of the title into 'Nukkuva Kaunotar' wouldn't have cut it with the audience, especially when you have Snow White who was sent to a 'death like sleep'🤔🌹
I really love those princesses, i think they represent a side of sweetest kind and graceful femininity, as in the world there are so many people even in the world of princesses there are so many personalities and I am sorry that now a lot think that these princesses are the most "weak" just because maybe they need someone’s help (as if it were wrong) or because they are less active than a Mulan or merida or because they dream of love, something that I find normal, but that seems not to be right today. In my opinion there are people in the world who like princesses are in complicated situations and can not escape and maybe Thanks to the help of someone then they succeed and in the meantime have never stopped being optimistic. I love them because they are the most kind and always optimistic ones that would never hurt anyone and are the most elegant and classic ones. Personally I identify more with them than with the new princesses. And I’m sorry that new movies tend to detach from old princesses features
Also, she played Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, a character whose mother wants to get all the girls in her home married because THATS THEIR ONLY WAY TO STAY SECURE ONCE THEIR FATHER DIES AND THE HOUSE IS GIVEN TO THEIR MALE COUSIN!!
There is absolutely nothing wrong with being kind, and I appreciate that with these early princesses, however, I am just more of a fan of kind, headstrong, but also stubborn characters, as they go through more relatable things. This is why the Renaissance princesses Ariel, Belle and Jasmine except for Pocahontas whom I don’t find at all interesting with barely any vulnerabilities, rank among my favourites. Even some of the Revival princesses have these great qualities and flaws as well.
Logically explained 👌 👏 ✨ 😌 🙌 And I have something to add to this wonderful video; there's such thing as "Symbolism" and most of old Disney movies use it as a way of telling the stories; Symbolism is also used in other forms of art like poetry, novels, paintings, etc... I have always had my own personal interpretation of the Symbolism in Disney movies and that's the beauty of art! Each person can have their own interpretation! I think that the fairy godmother in cindrella is the symbol of hope and luck! The Prince is a symbol of the prize of hard work and not giving up! And so on...
Dark forest nay-sayers, sleep alone in one! Here in BC 🇨🇦Canada, for instance: bears, coyotes, even a wolf or cougar may pass. Deer & elk (rutting stags or a fawn-protecting doe) pose dangers too.
Some extra trivia that explains sleeping beauty (The curse being shifted but not removed) A power used by fairies in mythology and stories is the power of changing words and using double meanings to trick people such as "giving" their names When you see the words in french "dormir/mourir" you can see how a scary powerful spell can't be destroyed but morphed making a big difference (Being offended) Christenings where the biggest events of medieval times, everyone including peasants could celebrate and everyone in royalty was invited (mainly in hopes of making allies) so being the only one not invited is a great offense, she gave them a chance to retract and makeup for it, but the fairies spoke out of place making the situation worse,if they had apologized and invited her maybe she would've given her a spooky gift like future vision or something like that
Out of all of them, the criticism towards Cinderella annoys me the most cause it's painfully obvious that these people don't understand how being in abusive relationship can effect someone 'Why didn't she just leave?' Not only was it her childhood home, but she literally has nowhere to go. If she did leave she be stuck on the streets "Why didn’t she stand up to her abusers" when she tried to explain to Tremaine what had happened with Anastasia and the mice, Tremaine immediately interrupts her and doubles her work load. Tremaine knows she has a lot of power over Cinderella and will gladly use it to further manipulate her. Not only that but if she did try to stand up to them, Tremaine would most likely punish her for it (like how she had her daughters destroy her dress and how she locked Cinderella in her room in order to make sure she couldn't fit the slipper) 'She only went to the ball to meet the prince' no she didnt. She wanted to go to the ball to just have fun, she met the prince by change (heck she didn't even know he was a prince at first) heck before this she didn't even mention once looking for someone romantically 'Her wanting to find a partner and being feminine makes her passive and weak' as a woman myself this annoys me to no end. There's absolutely nothing wrong with some women having traditionally feminine qualities, being gentle, kind, loving, soft-spoken and friendky doesn't make you weaker. Also some people DO want to find a supportive partner and that also doesn't make them weak either. This type of criticism just screams sexism in a new coat of paint and i hate this mindset that showing kindness somehow makes you weak The funny thing is that Cinderella was actually Walt Disney's favourite princess, because he was able to relate to her struggles. I'm glad that more people are starting to realise just how unfair a lot of the criticism towards the princesses were, especially with Cinderella
I blame the Evil Queen. She kept Snow White in that castle for so long, Snow White had no knowledge of stranger danger, and you can't blame Snow White for having a gentle and kind heart. This should be a lesson for parents to not overprotect their kids so they do not become ignorant. Although you have a point; Snow White knew that nothing comes for free, so cleaning the house in exchange for staying could teach kids about how you have to work for something.
I've always had the suspicion/fan theory that Disney needed to sell Snow White to adults, as well as children, and thus made TWO movies in one. In one translation she is put to sleep, found by the prince, woken up and lives happily ever after. In the other, translation, plagued by constant symbolism and artistic imagery, she... (here me out on this) is poisoned, put in a coffin, and then taken off, without ever speaking another line in the film, by a nameless character simply known in the script as "The Prince," on a white horse, to what looks like a shining golden castle in the clouds, to the song "Some Day My Prince Will Come" being sung by a choir. Tell me if you can guess the symbolism.
I don't think people realize how groundbreaking Sleeping Beauty was because the true heroes of the story were the three good fairies. I know Aurora's technically the title character and of course Prince Philip saves the day at the end but think about it for a second. When Maleficent first showed up, their first instinct was to protect little Aurora and they were willing to sacrifice sixteen years of their immortal lives to watch over her as she grew up and Philip would never have been able to save the day, had the fairies not been there to give him a boost. So, this is why I think Sleeping Beauty deserves more respect and appreciation.
Aurora is actually very independent because both her and Philip were reised by crazy dumb dumbs and they KNOW it. When the fairies ask for Aurora to bring flowers as a distraction for the party, she is like "yep, children, i totally not see that you are planning a surprise, gotta stay out for the whole day to find this very important flowers!" And the fairies immediately fail at everything because none of them knew how to cook, clean or sew, wich means AURORA was the one doing everything. And then when Philip told his dad about the girl in the cottage he was going to marry, the king started raging (even threatening disowning him) and Philip was like "lol, ok bye" and goes away, for the king immediately give out and agree. They love their parents and know they are loved, but at the same time are the ones making the decisions because they know their parents are not the best for it. besides it being probably one of the most visually beautiful 2d animations made by Disney :v
I agree with Cinderella how many mean people saying that why she leave her step sister house or prince just save her; While have a good point of saying that Cinderella have no where to go and have no choice just to stay in there and her prince didn’t save her but her fairy godmother that help her go to the ball, she didn’t think of loving the prince but thinking about her dream of going to nice place then staying with her step mother and step sisters.
Nice video. U totally admire snow white. I feel those who dislike her cuz all.she does is cook and clean. My mom cooks and clean and this is a chore I do not like doing. So I appreciate that my mom does it. I can't cook so I admire those who can cook. Also, cleaning something and being able to see it it being cleaned is such a win. I think those who hate on snow white hate cleaning but its a task u have to so.
I love a good lot of the princesses not every single one but a good lot of them and even the ones I don’t love I feel deserve defending however, Snow White is my absolute favorite and the way that people just hate and hate and heat and heat on her drives me absolutely up the wall.
A curiosity is that the reason Aurora got less screen time than the other Princesses was that in 1951/1952 the studio had the first plot for Sleeping Beauty but Walt Disney read it and thought that it was too similar to Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs and Cinderella, and these two also have some similarities, so their way to make it different was to give the fairies the most screen time and give the prince more personality in comparison to the ones before
Aurora and also Elsa have this problem where people constantly whine about them not being as developed as other Disney Princesses. People do this while not really grasping at the simple fact that neither of them are the protagonists of the stories they are in. The protagonists of Sleeping Beauty are the fairies. The movie is about them trying to protect their daughter from harm. They are the interesting ones. And likewise the protagonist of Frozen isn't Elsa, it is Anna. Anna is in the movie far more than Elsa so of course is the much stronger character. This also applies to Jasmine but people don't complain about her as much.
I think Jasmine gets a pass is for two reasons conveyed by her design alone. 1. Wearing pants conveys she's a tomboy. 2. Wearing a croptop automatically makes her "spicy".
@@Moonlitwatersofaqua I don't really think that's underwear, more revealing desert dancing outfit yes, but it's not nearly as overt as mermaids wearing clamshells after they outgrow their training wraps. That said...Jasmine does have her peasant's cloak and the engagement dress, but I'd really only consider "underwear" to be the red outfit in the hourglass especially given what it's called. The normal aquamarine one with the sapphire moon headband? (As she's called the both the Arabic and Chinese equivalents of Luna in the original tale of Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp) That's pretty much regular street clothes or at the very least casual pajamas. She also had the one scene in the lavender engagement gown and then she had a lavender version of her regular outfit at the end. That said...she still conveys the idea of adventure by appearance...and then when we get to know her....she proves she is like Belle where she needs a road trip and badly, but rather than waiting until after the marriage, Al makes a roadtrip their first date.
@Superlad9494 No, what she is wearing is just underwear. That bra like top and poofy pants are what was considered the undergarments of traditional Ottoman dress. It's like a slip in European dresses. Or today's bra and panties. It is what would be underneath other outfits we see Jasmine in, like the dress she wears in the town, the purple outfit she wears in the sequals. And the outfits she wears in the live action movie. The reason she's dressed like this in the original movie is because her outfit is inspired by Orientalist depictions of Middle Eastern women. Usually, it's inspired by Belly Dancers or, to put it more bluntly, by prostitutes that western men would have encountered. It's also worth mentioning Aladdin himself is dressed just ridiculously as Jasmine. They were made for each other. Jasmine's clothing is something pretty much every Aladdin property after the fact has tried to improve on.
@@Moonlitwatersofaqua I know she was inspired by dancers and actually when I've drawn Jasmine before...I usually just recolor the engagement dress to the signature aquamarine, but also Naomi Scott's really isn't much better than the animated design...more regal and they've been trying to make merch and park looks look similar for performer safety, but they still keep it too Orientlist rather than pre-Islamic regal.
Maleficent didn't curse Aurora to prick her finger on her 16th birthday. She specifically said "Before the sun sets on her 16th birthday", not "on her 16th birthday before the sun sets" Those two sentences have completely different meanings.
One misconception/controversy I want to address regarding Sleeping Beauty, “Philip defeated Maleficent.” He actually didn’t, the Fairies are the ones who killed Maleficent. They enchanted the sword that they gave him and using their magic, made it dart into Maleficent’s heart. He threw bc the sword was moving in its own. If something you’re holding is moving on its own, naturally, you will let it go. Philip didn’t throw the sword all on his own, there was no way he did and if he did throw the sword with all his strength, it would’ve just bounced off Maleficent’s body. Plus she’s the mistress of all evil. Philip is no match against her. Philip actually didn’t do most of the fighting. He actually doesn’t know how to fight! Look at the way he uses a sword, he keeps swinging it around sloppily. The Fairies gave him a sword so that he can join them in the battle. He can’t just stand there and do nothing unless he has a death wish. In the escape scene, the Fairies thwarted all of the attacks against Maleficent’s goons and all Philip did was ride on Samson cuz that’s all he could do. He had to focus on escaping.
In the rwby anime web series one of the main villains is cinder fall whose backstory its basically what if the abuse did twisted cinderella and instead of the fairy godmother she met an evil witch this those kind of Buck up you re points about cinderella
19:36 actually, the reason is because the KING was the one who was desperate to marry off his son cause he wanted to be a grandfather before dying, but the prince refused to marry a girl he didn't like. That's why the ball happened, the king kinda forced the prince to be there and find someone at all costs, even when the duke said that it wouldn't work because the prince was stubborn. In the beginning of the ball, when the prince is super bored with all of that, the king was frustrated and the duke absolutely smug with airs of "i told you so", but then Cinderella appears and the kings goes berserk and ordered the duke to found who she was and to don't let her get out of the castle cause she would be his new in-law. But she runs out and the king literally said that the duke should bring the girl back in 3 days or he would be beheaded.
Aurora is a little harder to pin down because she's not the true protagonist. The three good fairies are. Kinda like mad max fury road, everyone can agree furiosa is the true main protagonist
I have seen recently a real negative dig at what is considered traditional femininity; patience, kindness, endurance, compassion, empathy, and domestic oriented. I think it's one thing to criticize the idea that a woman has to uphold these traits to be a good woman as a bad and harmful take, but it shouldn't go as far as to ridicule and deem a female character a bad role model because she exhibits these traits.
She offered to cook and clean for the dwarves in return of a place to stay, she had ANIMALS help her with the cooking and cleaning, and she stayed pretty calm knowing that the queen, her own STEPMOTHER, wanted her dead.

a lot of people forget the time period bit for marriage ages also people married younger back then cause most people didn't make it past 30 or 40 with all the famines and plagues about.

People really seem to underestimate the strength that comes from genuine kindness and compassion, especially when experiencing such hardship and unfairness.

My goodness l wasn't even thinking about that. You're absolutely right!
Plus Merryweather never got a chance to give her a gift. That could have been her gift before malificent did anything
@@fantasyfiction101 That does seem like something Merryweather would gift I think
There is a Sleeping Beauty story where there are seven? Faires and intelligence is a repeat gift with each one making her slightly more intelligent everytime. The princess doesn't have fun though because everyone thinks she's a know it all and the adults resented a royal kid for telling them how to do their job. In real life, how many people would say intelligence is a gift any, most people I know hate it or hate the intelligent person for being an arrogant know it all
Alas, she wouldn’t necessarily inherit the crown if you go by historical standards. Most likely the crown would have passed to a cousin
14:17 the fact that people get angry over Aurora’s gifts is so weird. In the movie the most stand out things about her is that she is extremely beautiful and extremely good singer, so why would she get gifts that she wouldn’t be able to show off? Sidenote, those scenes are so beautifully animated.
The skills Snow White had....cooking, baking, cleaning, sewing, her kindness and empathy....show me a teenager who can do all this!
Damn, maybe more teenagers would be able to have these traits if they had the time and commitment from their overworked parents...
It always the nicest female characters getting attack.
What you're saying there seems misguided
Her shoe still fell off during her wedding. It's like a problem with her one foot.
@@JessaGrace091887 Sad thats superglue or duct tape wasn't invented yet. Would have made it easier for her to keep her shoes on.... Btw that was a joke, don't actually stick those two to your skin
Ok that’s actually a little funny to me
@@strawberrykitty1755
Funny thing is, the prince in the og Perault version of Cinderella did use some kind of superglue on the floor in an attempt to catch Cinderella because Cinderella literally kept running away from him. The superglue did caught Cinderella's one shoe.
One of her feet is sweatier than the other 😂
I can't understand how someone can hate Cinderella.
(He actually had a personality in Cinderella 3)
I would rather have them than an evil anime villain who’s a major red flag
Unless said beautiful female was born without nothing
I love love this add. You're absolutely right
@AngeW-vm4kx Her backstory was so dumb. “My boyfriend r*ped me, so now I’m evil” is the most generic villain thing I’ve ever heard of. What would’ve been better is that she was raised by fairies and was taught magic, but she used it for her own desires when she got older and eventually became evil. That would’ve been way better than that dumb backstory they gave her
A great point as to why Snow white isn't sexist is she earns her place in the dwarves house instead of using her looks
as an abused kid, Cinderella was a massive comfort and inspiration growing up and i can't understand how anyone can hate on her
8:40 even if Cinderella could gatter the strenght to try to stand up to her abusers
It's 3 of them and one of her
How could she ever hope to over power them?
"Oh you have asma? Why don't you just breathe?"... Honestly, it makes me so sad that this is a reality sometimes
People forget Prince Charming fell in love with her at first sight.
@@niemsalleh7224 sorry idk what that has to do with my comment
Amen ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
Perfect 👏🏻
Part of why snow is so cheerful is that movie came out during WWII and it was sorta Disney's way of telling people to keep their head up.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. And l'm also glad you found such great comfort in these princesses 💖💖
I thought I was the only child that would get anxiety from the stepsisters ripping up her dress.

@@lovelycloudyskies Yeah ik what you mean
Look at Phillip at start Vs end: he goes from " that girl is groos" to " this maiden is so beautiful I will give up my crown to be with her"
also theres a gift not given, like maybe the third was planned to be something like wisdom, but they had to change it to "surviving" lol
@@maca76 they confirmed that Merryweather’s gift to aurora was going to be happiness
Snow isn't 14 in the film, she's 18-20, as is the Prince. Disney has confirmed this already- but everything else you've said is true. I hate that people slander the og princesses so much, it's time for people to stop lying about the classics to put down femininity. Being feminine isn't a crime.
🙌 THANK-YOU FOR SAYING THAT!
Yes, she is 14. The book Art of Walt Disney confirms that. Her prince is 18. (Completely normal age gaps in medieval Europe.) Otherwise, I agree with you 😊
@@CrystalGoddess90 but who wrote the book? Were they actually involved with the production of the film?
Snow White IS 14 and the Prince IS 18, according to the book "The Art of Disney". I don't know why people think Prince Florian is 31.
@@goodoldfashionedangel It was in the descriptions in the casting call for the characters.
another thing about the prince from cinderella, in the third movie he when he sees Anastacia immediately says that she wasn't the girl he danced at the ball, it's only when he is magically brainwashed by the lady Tarmane that he starts to believe that Anastacia was the girl that he danced with.
Also, third movie best movie. I fully agree btw

Clearly, the people asking these questions and creating controversy are not paying very close attention.
You make pretty strong arguments.

You could say it's possible that Merryweather's gift was supposed to be intelligence before Maleficent interrupted.

Love at first sight is not practical but it rxist. And once you experience that, no words can express the feeling.
In defense of Aurora, they’re literally bombing her with this information ON HER BIRTHDAY…
(It’s not cheap feeding a castle full of goblin like creatures😂)
With that in mind, what does it say when a large kingdom is popular enough to have a massive number of influential guests (many probably living under Maleficent’s thumb) willingly attend a christening for a baby and yet fails to invite you: a powerful and equally influential faerie with a very fearsome reputation😬…well it either means they’re not afraid of you and are trying to make a statement with that by not giving you an invitation💁🏼♀️✨ or they’re stupid/forgetful and something happened to the invitation you were supposed to get (like the messenger falling off a cliffside ledge or into a dark abyss of sharp stalagmites while traversing the INCREDIBLY steep and seemingly landslide prone mountain that Maleficent’s castle is perched on😬…I like to imagine it’s the bard guy from the movie that gets so drunk he passes out under the table😂)
Either way, that threatens Maleficent’s grip on the other kingdoms which she obviously won’t tolerate so she makes a grand entrance as a power move, offering the rulers a chance to correct their mistake (verbally I might add) there and then by apologizing for the invitation and welcome her as an invited guest, thereby avoiding her wrath.
I think THAT is what lead Maleficent to finally decide to curse the child cuz let’s face it, she gave them their chance to save face and invite her, so now she’ll have to make an example of them instead and remind everyone else not to make the same mistake!😬 (hence the baby being the main target since she was the whole reason for this in the first place and maleficent probably couldn’t resist the irony of it all)
It’s really quite fascinating and makes sense if you think about it!=3 if you don’t account for the Maleficent movie of course💁🏼♀️✨
This is really good and l honestly never thought about it like this. She really did give them oppertunities. My gosh you're good

It does make me laugh thinking about them struggling in a comedic way throughout Aurora's life. They miraculously did a stellar job tho
@@djinnspalace2119 well, the dress wasn't that much more complicated than a blouse and they definitely would have had to sew clothes for her growing up so it still didn't make sense to me. It's just a plot hole that was overlooked.
@@paulagoeringer9466 fr they just didkt think about it
My husband claims that it was love at first sight. And I believe him. Yes that is rare, but not impossible.
And it’s a movie so
Also want to point out the reason why lady Tremaine or the stepsisters didn’t recognize Cinderella at the ball was because the fairy godmother used magic so they couldn’t recognize Cinderella.
I have a lot of respect for the original Disney princesses, and everything you said in your video was accurately right
Thank you for posting! Aurora is one of my favorite princesses, so I especially appreciated her section. i really liked your point about the gifts - it's not like beauty and singing are *bad* things! And yes, I always love her quick turnaround from "Never!" to "This evening!" : )
Fun fact.
In my country, the fairies call Aurora for Tornerose,
which is actually the name of the film and the story.
Oh my gosh it's the same thing here, in Dutch she's called Doornroosje which translates to the same thing 😄
You made wonderful points on the three princesses I look up to
Awh thank you 💜💜💜
I really love those princesses, i think they represent a side of sweetest kind and graceful femininity, as in the world there are so many people even in the world of princesses there are so many personalities and I am sorry that now a lot think that these princesses are the most "weak" just because maybe they need someone’s help (as if it were wrong) or because they are less active than a Mulan or merida or because they dream of love, something that I find normal, but that seems not to be right today.
Wanna send all of these to Keira Knightley lol
Funny how she said that, yet her character was rescued by two men. Atleast she let her daughter watch the original TLM.
Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora. My gurls the Golden trio.
Plus how was Cinderella supposed to fight back? It's three against one.
Logically explained 👌 👏 ✨ 😌 🙌
And I have something to add to this wonderful video; there's such thing as "Symbolism" and most of old Disney movies use it as a way of telling the stories; Symbolism is also used in other forms of art like poetry, novels, paintings, etc...
💜✨️
Dark forest nay-sayers, sleep alone in one! Here in BC 🇨🇦Canada, for instance: bears, coyotes, even a wolf or cougar may pass. Deer & elk (rutting stags or a fawn-protecting doe) pose dangers too.
Some extra trivia that explains sleeping beauty
(The curse being shifted but not removed)
A power used by fairies in mythology and stories is the power of changing words and using double meanings to trick people such as "giving" their names
When you see the words in french "dormir/mourir" you can see how a scary powerful spell can't be destroyed but morphed making a big difference
(Being offended)
Christenings where the biggest events of medieval times, everyone including peasants could celebrate and everyone in royalty was invited (mainly in hopes of making allies) so being the only one not invited is a great offense, she gave them a chance to retract and makeup for it, but the fairies spoke out of place making the situation worse,if they had apologized and invited her maybe she would've given her a spooky gift like future vision or something like that
Out of all of them, the criticism towards Cinderella annoys me the most cause it's painfully obvious that these people don't understand how being in abusive relationship can effect someone
'Why didn't she just leave?' Not only was it her childhood home, but she literally has nowhere to go. If she did leave she be stuck on the streets
"Why didn’t she stand up to her abusers" when she tried to explain to Tremaine what had happened with Anastasia and the mice, Tremaine immediately interrupts her and doubles her work load. Tremaine knows she has a lot of power over Cinderella and will gladly use it to further manipulate her. Not only that but if she did try to stand up to them, Tremaine would most likely punish her for it (like how she had her daughters destroy her dress and how she locked Cinderella in her room in order to make sure she couldn't fit the slipper)
'She only went to the ball to meet the prince' no she didnt. She wanted to go to the ball to just have fun, she met the prince by change (heck she didn't even know he was a prince at first) heck before this she didn't even mention once looking for someone romantically
'Her wanting to find a partner and being feminine makes her passive and weak' as a woman myself this annoys me to no end. There's absolutely nothing wrong with some women having traditionally feminine qualities, being gentle, kind, loving, soft-spoken and friendky doesn't make you weaker. Also some people DO want to find a supportive partner and that also doesn't make them weak either. This type of criticism just screams sexism in a new coat of paint and i hate this mindset that showing kindness somehow makes you weak
The funny thing is that Cinderella was actually Walt Disney's favourite princess, because he was able to relate to her struggles.
I always love the Classic princesses compare to the remakes and such
I don't think people realize how groundbreaking Sleeping Beauty was because the true heroes of the story were the three good fairies.
Aurora is my favorite i love her sm
I love a good lot of the princesses not every single one but a good lot of them and even the ones I don’t love I feel deserve defending however, Snow White is my absolute favorite and the way that people just hate and hate and heat and heat on her drives me absolutely up the wall.
People seem to forget that Aurora was a 16 year old teenage girl. Many 16 year old girls are interested in finding a handsome boyfriend.
@Superlad9494 she's in her underwear the whole movie dude.
Maybe the royals in Cinderella knew who they invited to the ball and narrowed it down from there.
Sleeping Beauty is often named after a rose. In most of the versions of the fairytale she pricks her finger by a rose in fact 🌹
It doesn’t help that the people criticising the princesses haven’t seen the film since they were 10
This is therapeutic, I don't understand how people use "woke" arguments yet victim blame the female protagonists 💀💀
Maleficent didn't curse Aurora to prick her finger on her 16th birthday. She specifically said "Before the sun sets on her 16th birthday", not "on her 16th birthday before the sun sets" Those two sentences have completely different meanings.
One misconception/controversy I want to address regarding Sleeping Beauty, “Philip defeated Maleficent.”
He actually didn’t, the Fairies are the ones who killed Maleficent.
Philip probebly learn to fight but he learned to fight humans not dragons
Exactly..i
In the rwby anime web series one of the main villains is cinder fall whose backstory its basically what if the abuse did twisted cinderella and instead of the fairy godmother she met an evil witch this those kind of Buck up you re points about cinderella
Cinderella got her fairy god parents appear away from evil step family 10:09
I love people who have their on mind
They need to paint 🎨 their nails 💅🏿 0:48
Aurora is a little harder to pin down because she's not the true protagonist. The three good fairies are. Kinda like mad max fury road, everyone can agree furiosa is the true main protagonist
I have seen recently a real negative dig at what is considered traditional femininity; patience, kindness, endurance, compassion, empathy, and domestic oriented. I think it's one thing to criticize the idea that a woman has to uphold these traits to be a good woman as a bad and harmful take, but it shouldn't go as far as to ridicule and deem a female character a bad role model because she exhibits these traits.
Yes! I love all the disney princesses and I find something inspiring and something to admire and learn from every single one of them
Cinderella meets prince (1997) she don't think magic shoe, Cinderella ran away form royal.
