    Excellent review, Tim (as always)!
Having played Seas of Strife a number of times now, I'd strongly recommend that you try the 'Strife Variant' which concerns the play of the high card in each suit (the so-called 'Face Card'). The Strife variant was actually the original official rule and the way the designer intended the game to be played, before the rule governing the face card was mistakenly changed when the Strife was re-published as Texas Showdown. Having the face card basically nullify the suit so that no cards in that suit can win the trick adds a very interesting tactical layer to the game which IMHO improves game play compared to the face card simply allowing one to determine who leads in the next trick.

Great feedback. I'll have to look into trying that variant!
