I'm trying to get to heaven too ...."before they close the door". Life isn't worth living without love. It's all a day by day gift our lives; Each new day is different and "I get high on life". Been down that rocky road yrs ago when I was ill and homeless. Life is really worth living when you find out were all in the same position, and have to pull together in order to move forward as a member of the human family of peace. Lord knows the best of times we've got only "today". As creatures of habit it's easy to expect to have a familiar experience, and be comfortably at ease when life is good. The world however isn't a beautiful, safe place . All I can do is Pray and give oneself over to the Spirit that created us-- it's Holy, just, accepting, healing and true. My understanding of Heaven is it is a place where one can be a child of innocence, loved unconditionally, and forgiven for our thinking, or lack of thinking. Life as a loner is too hard to endure and together as One we lift each other up and fly to ☮️ peace when there is adversity.

One of my favourite songs by Dylan also. 'They tell me everything is gonna be all right/ But I don't know what 'all right' even means'. These lines appeal to me. 'I'm tryin' to get to heaven/ Before they close the door'. I am.
I get the entire Missouri lyrics. Did it, Warrent issued And it is all bullshit. I left. In a hurry. Fuckers from the Show Me State showed me nothing. Bob nailed this, I love him for it.

This entire show is one of the classics of the NET. Probably the best show of 1999 IMO. A Great Friend of the Devil, a superb It Aint Me Babe, a timeless Boots of Spanish Leather, an incredible Hard Rain, a beautiful Tryin To Get To Heaven. The quality of sound is stunning. It's my favourite Dylan live show of all time.
This is the best version of Bob singing this divine song on your list. I rated 'Trying To Get To Heaven Before They Close The Door' on the Top 10 of my favourite songs written and sung by Dylan. In no sense do I recognize a ' Dylan canon'. It's always subjective.
in my top ten too .... but it's a new Bobby voice.....for me i stay forever in 1978....but love you since 50 years Monsieur Bob Dylan may you stay forever the best in this world just for us ....Sarah ....♥♥♥
You know what is blowing in the wind, the ambers hot of Bob Dylan. He for sure is a Low Spark of High Heeled Boys! Grass Root, all the way to the center of the universe.
Saw him do it in DC in maybe 2003 or so. Luckily he did it early in the set, since it's one of my favorite songs of his after Blood on the Tracks, and he still had some vocal power. By around the fourth or fifth song in, you could hardly tell he was singing.
@@mrtambourine1753 Yes, one of my favorites after Blood on the Tracks. That album is probably my favorite since Blood on the Tracks. Probably my favorite songs since Blood on the Tracks are This one, Sara, Jokerman and Mississippi.
The last Yom Kippur service, the Neilah service, has, as its theme, trying to get prayers to Heaven before the gates are closed. This is Bob Dylan's Neilah song
Hello there, Thank you for posting this track. It is included inside Bob Dylan's Music Box (search for The Bob Dylan Project) If you would like to contribute contact us via the email link on the website.
saw him yesterday in Wien... he played this song also but at much slower tempo.none the less i enjoyed listening and watch him and his band perform.to me there is no doubt this incredible song is about the pull of adiction
I waited years for trains, grey, gaunt desolate trains, as colourless as waste land by the sea, with now and then scampering herds of bright red antelopes, and heavy shambling buffaloes, known how it feels,
I already know that I'm going there, but I want others to come too. It happens to alot of people whether they get The Holy Spirit or not. Once you're really a wholehearted Christian, you will find yourself compelled to tell whoever will listen to you. The Lord will start giving you things to do, like putting whoever in front of your face to help. It's like an assignment, and normally, when you know the job is done, you go on to the next thing that The Lord Gives you to do. That didn't exactly happen that way with you. Well, the closer you get to someone, the more you're probably going to suffer, especially if you don't see them passing on to someone else and/or many, The Spirit things about The Lord. Not to mention that the closer you get To The Lord, the more you're going to be attacked by His enemies in the spirit. That's no big thing to me though because I just rebuke them, and The Lord's not going to allow this type of thing to really harm me. He's going to tell me what to do. God's enemies don't attack someone that could care less about God, but those people are the ones who are really afraid. They don't fear God though, because they don't know God. They fear what's going to happen to them if they don't obey the devil. I don't fear the devil. He's going to the Pitt anyways.
Txs a lot mr tambourine! for doing all the work!!I noticed that your uploads are not monetized, which leads me to the question......Do you think it is ok to make money with bootlegged material? You probably know the 'Elston Gunn' channel..... the guy behind it, Simon Payton claims that ytube makes him to monetize his uploads! he also claims that he doesn't earn any money from the ads that are shown on his vids, but that only Sony gets money from it! What do you know about it? Does ytube make you show ads? Lot of people say he is a moneymaker, that hes selling out bootlegged material by monetizing every single vid he reuploads from bootleggers who shot the vids and shared them for free! In my opinion such greedy people shouldn't be supported, they should be banned from the Dylan fangroups! If you feel the same, please let other fans know about it!
Hi Sandy.... First, let me say that I don't KNOW anything about what's required and I appreciate your anti-bootlegging statement. But, since Google bought UA-cam, a lot more music is unavailable due to copyright and there are a LOT more commercials in everything. I don't know that my 2 cents is worth more than that but I hear ya and it could be true?? I know it sure has changed since they started offering the YT Red pay option. Oh well, it's still a great site. And this is a wonderful version. So glad to hear the Poet Laureate and see him weave his magic.
I was hunted too. You mean I can't wait for heaven too. Your just a man. I just a women that all. Oh well I can't see me loving again and I happy with that. What ever you or they say. I glad I know I am ok.
I simply can't imagine what my life would be without Dylan's work. A desolate desert... Thank you Bob million times!

There's a rumbling in the skies
I've been wading through the high muddy water
With the heat rising in my eyes
Every day your memory grows dimmer
It doesn't haunt me like it did before
I've been walking through the middle of nowhere
Trying to get to heaven before they close the door
When I was in Missouri
They would not let me be
I had to leave there in a hurry
I only saw what they let me see
You broke a heart that loved you
Now you can seal up the book and not write anymore
I've been walking that lonesome valley
Trying to get to heaven before they close the door
People on the platforms
Waiting for the trains
I can hear their hearts a-beatin'
Like pendulums swinging on chains
When you think that you lost everything
You find out you can always lose a little more
I'm just going down the road feeling bad
Trying to get to heaven before they close the door
I'm going down the river
Down to New Orleans
They tell me everything is gonna be all right
But I don't know what "all right" even means
I was riding in a buggy with Miss Mary-Jane
Miss Mary-Jane got a house in Baltimore
I been all around the world, boys
Now I'm trying to get to heaven before they close the door
Gonna sleep down in the parlor
And relive my dreams
I'll close my eyes and I wonder
If everything is as hollow as it seems
Some trains don't pull no gamblers
No midnight ramblers, like they did before
I been to Sugar Town, I shook the sugar down
Now I'm trying to get to heaven before they close the door
The air is getting hotter.
I feel so many emotions listening to this song

When You thought You Had me but I had you, I'm going to write that song.
Out of sight, out of mind...the Earth knows our Destiny as it was here and created before we were born. How vast is Heaven? I just don't know....
Yes, every version of 'Tryin' To Get To Heaven' does sound slightly different, like many of bob's songs. The way I hear them.
I have been trying to get to Heavin for years and years but the train from my town is running very late

Dylan from 1998 to around 2004 is Dylan at his best.
98-2002 for me and then again from 2011 onwards
Trev, I can vouch for you but it really started at the end of '97...
He’s been great since 63 and I don’t believe we’ve seen his best...hang in there, have faith
Great song. Thanks
Aw, I love that smile!!!
