    Just bought a standard range. Its a great car. I currently have a pretty serious wind noise problem at highway speeds, part of the driver side windows do not completely seal. Hoping a Tesla Service Center appointment will solve. Took delivery with 11 miles on it. All other aspects of the car are fantastic.

    Buying the same RWD with white interior for several reasons:
    - Took advantage of high value of 2018 toyota camry xle
    - discounted inventory ~5% off
    - tax rebate up to 7500
    - State rebate of 2000 ending June 2023
    - free charging at work
    - insurance cost ~4% more than Camry
    Overall cost will be low to mid 30000s after tax, fees, rebate, credit and ownership costs to improve as time goes on.

    Here in Canada anyway, the cost for insurance for Tesla really outweighs any sort of cost savings that you would get over driving a car like a Toyota Prius or a Corolla.
    Now if you're the type of person that you want to be driving an Audi or a BMW where your insurance is going to be classed as a luxury brand then yeah this is pretty much apples to apples but that type of consumer who is looking to save money generally is not driving an Audi or a BMW.
    The new Toyota Prius that gets 70 km of range plus is a really good trade-off even with a commute of 80 km a day. You're paying about 30% Less on insurance or more and your benefiting from EV driving with an amazing 10 year 240,000 km warranty for the battery.

    Starting on July 1st, with current incentives, this car is $25,300. 🤯 To me that’s a crazy good deal. You also don’t need AWD in Colorado in most situations, you just need winter tires, which you should have regardless of whether or not you have AWD. AWD does not help you stop or steer, it only helps you get going on a slippery slope. 😉 I live Colorado and go to the mountains frequently with both our FWD Hyundai and AWD Subaru. Both have winter tires. The only times we haven’t taken the Hyundai is when the snow is so deep that we might have ground clearance issues so we use the Subaru. However, even the Tesla Y doesn’t have that much ground clearance. Our FWD Hyundai with winter tires does better than most trucks and suvs in the in snow with all season or all terrain tires.

      The thing is it's a tax credit not a rebate. So it's not like you get a 7500 check. You have to have a tax liability of over 7500 to see any benefit from the tax credit. Most don't. Infact if you owe 7500 any tax year you are doing something wrong.

    Really considering now, with at least $9,500 off the price, plus the new LFP batteries that can be charged always to 100% (instead of the recommended 80%), it's almost a no brainer. For the price of a well equipped Toyota Corolla, you can get a new Model 3.

    Unless you do no expect to make much long trips over 100 miles or so, don’t get the standard range plus. I have a SR+ from 2019 240 mi range. Although the 2023 range improved somewhat, the range on longer trips is less than desirable. You must consider the following which you don’t realized it is bad until you stack everything up. 1) Highway efficiency - loss of 15% (85%) at speeds > 65. 2) After the 1st change for trip you only have 60% of range. For longer battery life, speed of charging, you charge at 20% only upto 80% for only 60% of 272 mi. But you do not have 272 mi range after a year. I had only 232 of 240 after a month, 212mi or 88% after 3 years. It seemed to level off at 3 years. Finally add in cold weather. Depending on length of trip you can loose quite a bit. The 2023 is much better than mine due to the heat pump. Mine I only get 60% with few short trips, or 75 miles when charged to 80% at start. Stack everything up, I get only 125 miles or much less in cold between charge cycles on a trip after the first charge on the highway. In spring time on local traffic I do not lose the 15% that I get on highway.
    I wished I got the long range because I avoid long trips on mine due to frequent number of charges required for long trips. I wish I sold mine during the pandemic and save the money to buy the long range now.
    Another negative, I now live in MA where my electric rate is $0.37 or more per KW. I used to pay $0.17 in NYS. It is no cheaper to refill than a efficient hybrid car.

    9:20 The peak charge kw are just that..peak only......the LFP charges 5% to 80% in 22-25min V3 Supercharger in warm weather (80F / 27c) and will hold 110-120 kw all the way to 80%. - Yes it's a smaller battery but it will add actual miles per minute (because of the efficiency) quicker than either the long range or performance.

    • @EV_Ben
      @EV_Ben  Рік тому

      Sadly I did not have enough time with the SR to do proper charge testing with it, so I could only report what I experienced. The lower charge speeds were not a huge deal, but I don't know if I agree about more true miles per minute of charging. In my experience I spent slightly more time at Superchargers overall due to combination of lower peak and lower range. Also, the efficiency is greatly affected by speed and wind/weather, to the point where it isn't any more efficient than my old LR on highways in certain situations. In ideal conditions it is more efficient, but it loses that efficiency rather easily on highways in my experience. Again, that's just my experience. Thanks for the comment!

    • @AChang-ju6gb
      @AChang-ju6gb Рік тому

      Then smaller battery charges in the SR+ charges slower than the LR when supercharging. It has less battery packs which each pack can only charge at a certain rate. There are more “pipes” for more current because there are more battery packs. At home or normal charging, there current available is less than the max rate possible for the battery packs. See my comments on the pitfalls of standard range for longer trips.

    • @TB-up4xi
      @TB-up4xi Рік тому +1

      The Long range doesn't have the LFP......yet (I may some time soon). Your points are valid on the Long Range - you can go under 20% and over 80% occasionally but not recommended for daily use - If you charge regularly at home the RWD has both a better usable daily range and much better efficiency. All models are limited to 11kw charging at home.
      The maximum charge speeds are also misleading - a RWD LFP will add 5% to 80% in 22-25 min in warm weather (Arizona most of the time in most places) at a V3 charger and will hold a 110-120 kw speed all the way to 80%. Because of the better efficiency it adds actual miles per minute faster than either the Long Range or Performance.
      I live in Sydney Australia my RWD with LFP has averaged nearly 5.4 miles per kWh over the first 2000km / 1250miles of 50% freeway / 50% City& Suburban - I get 300 miles from my 60 kwH battery (57.5 usable) I have made 299.8 miles on a single charge with 3% indicated left - normal speed limit, no hypermiling.
      For $7k less you lose the added acceleration of the dual motors and some of the premium sound features and fog lights.

    • @EV_Ben
      @EV_Ben  Рік тому

      Good question. I don't think there is any issue going below 20% battery as long as you don't leave it there overnight. I got home under 20% almost every day (sometimes below 5%) and immediately plugged it in, never had any issues or noticed any degradation between 26,000-79,000 miles over a year. I also charged it to 90% every day (which Tesla recommends) and had no issue there either. So I would say you can safely use 90% of the pack daily. However, you will not get the EPA range. In a new Model 3 Long Range I would say expect somewhere between 280-290 miles using 100% of the battery (being conservative here), then minus another 10% from that lower number to get usable daily range. My 2019 Model 3 got around 240-250 usable real world range, which I found to be plenty, even for Rideshare. However, if you want to drive a full do of Rideshare, plan on charging at some point. That's why I recommend this most for cities with good Supercharging infrastructure because you can eat while you charge which makes things way more time efficient. Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any more questions!

    • @EV_Ben
      @EV_Ben  Рік тому

      Thanks for the comment! Model 3 does not have LFP as far as I know, but that may change with the rumored refresh coming sometime this year perhaps? As for charging, Tesla recommends up to 90% charge for daily use. You can go as low as you want with the battery as long as you don't leave it low for long. I got home under 20% almost every day (sometimes below 5%) and immediately plugged it in, never had any issues or noticed any degradation between 26,000-79,000 miles over a year. I know other owners who have done the same with their cars without issue. These batteries are built to last.
