Thanks to Professor Phillip Lucas and his team for bringing out this documentary on temple of Lord Shiva. With grace of Lord Shiva I have visited Annamalaiyar Temple and Sri Ramanasramam twice.
Really impressive! Very scholarly, loaded with historical detail & local color. Clearly a lot of time & painstaking research went into the making of this documentary film.
Great Documentary! Long, too long overdue● many aspects of this religion are given here, and i believe nowhere else■ Commendable! Great Production and a Great Educational Material☆☆☆☆☆ Five Stars!
Thanks Shravya. I am currently working on version 3.0 with new footage, shot in high definition, of the Deepam festival, which I was able to attend this year during my sabbatical from the university.
@@preetikushwa7032 When The Great Tribulation starts, my friend, you WILL without fail regret you never tried finding Jehovah God, The God of The Bible. Humility and an honest heart is what God is looking for, and areas of the world where religion is millennia old, those people have it harder to let go of traditions. But "The Good News of Gods Kingdom" is being taught "all over the world," "and then the end will come." There is still time.
At 42:46/timeline a great fire is lit in the basin...a similar practice was seen by Greeks in Perperikon at a temple dedicated to Dionysus[same as Shiva...as explained in my other comment]
At 17:53 we find the Dreaming Trees...a believer who has a dream come true will tie a piece of cloth to the tree to thank for the dream come true. The same custom is seen in S Bulgaria...where ancient Thracian customs may survive after Christianity set in. Thracians and Scythians were Vedic populations wrote Frits Staal in Discovering the Vedas. Lord Shiva was shown to be Dionysus by Alain Daniélou the famous indologist in his work Gods of Love and Ecstasy. Dionysus appears in the Greek pantheon but he was a Thracian god borrowed by the Greeks according to Euripides the Anct.Greek playwright in the play The Bacchantes. In Romanian, a language based on Latin there are still Sanskrit words remaining. Various written sources collected during the course of research.
