Once upon a time Bijshetra, Ayodhya and Kashi were also the land of temples. But most of the temples were destroyed by Mugals and Britishers.

It is remarkable that TN has such a large Vaishnavite temple. I have never visited this one, but most famous temples I have heard of in TN are Shaivite/Shakti ones like Thanjavur, Rameshwaram, Chidambaram and Meenakshi Amman. Of course, Chidambaram does have Vishnu and Shiva as presiding deities, but I have heard stories about Shaivite-Vaishnavite conflicts behind it.
Correction: Tamil Nadu has large Vishnu temples. For example, Srirangam, Varadaraja temple, Thirukannapuram temple, Mannargudi Rajagopalaswamy temple, Thirukkurungudi nambi temple, Azhagar temple Madurai.
And much more like the 81of the 108 Divya Desam are in Tamilnadu

Most of the large and famous TN temples I have heard about (and visited) with the exception of temple at Srirangam has been Shaivite - eg: Thanjavur, Thiruvannamalai, Rameswaram, Chidambaram etc. So this had given me an impression that Vaishnavite temples were far less in prominence and number than Shaivite ones in TN.
@@vineethg6259 Actually, there are twice as many Shiva temples as Vishnu temples, with around 250+ revered Shiva temples in Tamil Nadu alone. Shiva temples received substantial patronage from rulers, resulting in many of them being large, such as Chidambaram, Thiruvarur, Thiruvannamalai, Meenakshi temple, and the Great Chola temples. In summary, Tamil Nadu boasts numerous Shiva and Vishnu temples.
T.N is the place were sri vaishnavism started and spread to other places...12 alwars , ramayuja acharya were from T.N ...
Out of 108 divya desam of maha vishnu. ...84 are in T.N alone...

1.16000 Vaishnavites were killed during Malik Kafur invasion during 14th century.
2.Ranganathar idol was taken to Tirumala Tirupati for 48 years. (You may find RangaMandapam on the left side while entering Tirumala Temple). Within 48 years Sultans were driven out.
3.Sri Vaishnavism has 108 Prominent Tirupatis. Sri Rangam is the first Tirupati.
4.In 108 temples, Perumal can be found in 3 postures- Sleeping, Position, Standing Position and Sitting Position
5.Ranganathar is in Sleeping position.

1. Tamilnadu -Srirangam temple(Largest hindu temple in india.Wonderful architecture with colorful idols in gopuram)
2. Andra pradesh -sri Venkateswara(Balaji) temple(The Most famous and richest hindu temple in india)
3. Kerala-Sri padmanabha swamy temple (Mysterious and second richest hindu temple )
4. Karnataka-Chennakesava temple(wonderful architecture with intricate and deatiled stone carvings and beautiful sculptures of madanikas)

Yes Sri Ranganatha Swami temple is unique bin many respects. Uam told Sri Ramanujars human remains is still preserved in this place, though I did not get a chance to see it. Jayaram
