It was a bit Ready, Steady, Cook. It reminded me about a time many moons ago where I got random crap out of the cupboard and told my ex husband to try and make a meal out of that. I seem to recall a tin of peas and a jar of marmalade being on the menu 🤣
The anxiety thing is me all over. If I have to be up super early I either don’t sleep at all or I wake every hour 😩 and I’m not a very good sleeper at the best of times 🥱🥱🥱

Grub looked fab James, lamb burger 👍 👌 maybe consider getting a carbon monoxide alarm installed for the van? Definitely know how you feel being on alert through the night can relate being an ex carer, felt sorry for you. Hope you managed to get some rest after that. I would have gone n bought a cooked breakie from premier, think its open to non residents cos some small haulage companies us the car park for overnight park ups.

When I got Wakey to see kids I usually park up on their drive. However daughter is trading her mobility car in for a new one, an electric one, which means she’ll need to park on the drive. So I’ll need park ups. I might use that one.

More than likely someone checking out vans after midnight looking for tools to steal if you're a builder type and working away from home you would probably stay at a premier inn

Have you tried Redbecks cafe in Wakefield ? They do charge for overnighting if your desperate BUT to be fair they don’t check in middle of night anyway.
Staff are great in there and the food is brilliant too.
If you do pay it’s £14 a night, or £20 for an inclusive stay (you get a £10 cooked meal), they have a fully licenced bar too.
I haven’t overnighted there but have made use of there free internet (no pass word), in exchange for me eating in and having a coffee, as I work online.
The internet was consistent, and fast. Very good for free (ish).

Do you ever think about putting earplugs in? That van and them emptying the bottles mite not have woken you up. I put in earplugs when I’m staying in my camper in those sort of park ups … I basically just think to myself that if somebody is physically messing with the van or knocking the door that will wake up regardless and the earplugs just block out all the background noise … keeps the 3am paranoia at bay!! 😂 . Just an idea for you mate
I do have some but for some reason I find them really uncomfortable, I'll try them again when I'm in an unfamiliar place

Been doing this for a long time. It's all good. it gets easier over time. Just be careful a lot of these use parking companies and you need to put your reg in to stay

Ha ha love it james man. I think if weather permits, you could do the cook ups outside . Forests .... beaches but kind of still using the van to. Build a fire and an improvised rack and cook and chat on. You guys and a decent background for your banter whilst your cook ups could be nice along with all the walking vids etx. Only thinking out loud.

@@bythecurb mighty. I'm pretty sure you could buy a solar mini light and grow some green salads in van somewhere . Hahha I haven't seen any other UA-cam try it. Nothing big as in just lettices at start in like a 50cm long pot or something. Be some craic .could mount it up high at front out the way a bit.

A up James, loads of tradesman use the likes of Premier inn / Holiday inn etc to kip at when working away from home, I've done it myself so I reckon you'd be fine parking overnight in their carparks now and again if it suited at the time, you could see in your video there was plenty of tradesman vans parked up so I don't think you'd have any bother mate.

I think its lidl or aldi one ir the other allow you to stay on there car parks overnight.
I've seen a few ppl say they have stayed,give it a whirl 😊.

There's an old Sheffield saying "when its brown its done , when its black its buggered." Living in a van in Britain is hard , I've got a Transit, so I don't know how you manage .

John: Well, I lived in a Transit for 8 years, no probs anywhere - you just gotta be choosy and inconspicuous 🤪
@joline2730 I find that I'm tripping over things because there isn't enough storage in a Transit, there's no room for a fridge either. Now they've abolished the gas I used so the built-in hob is useless. It's now a case of mounting and dismounting a portable. Also, I can't see the benefit of a height restriction in an open air car park that some supermarkets have installed and then you get F wits who park up against you, so that you can't open the doors. Then there's the pitching and tossing in all directions at once on modern roads.
@@johngrant5448 and that's why I have now downsized to a Vx Combo .. . Very basic, just bed, c'bd and toilet and I shuffle-bum along the bed cos I can't stand up. But it is a lot less noticeable anywhere 🚐 but do sometimes have trouble with ppl parking right behind so I can't open rear doors 🥺
Love the idea of cooking random crap can you cook it outdoors it being summer time think it would be good in a nice setting just putting out there, keep up the Good Work Mate your making real progress. ❤️👍

I like the James Cooks Crap series you have just come up with. Hey, get a couple of boxes of baking soda and either pour some in a couple of bowls or just pop the tops open on the soda and this will help absorb those unwanted odors. I had to drive out of my park-up late last night, my gut did not like what was going on with 3 vehicles that rolled in near me at 12:30 a.m., so I left. Slept much better when I got to a new spot. How's the new Bluetti doing? Looking forward to hearing what's being delivered for you....Christmas in July!

I know that purple room hotel car park lol 😆 I fill my lorry up at the services when I parked my lorry in Barnsley DAF on Carlton industrial estate 😊 Yes cooking 🧑🍳 in yiur van is like cooking in my lorry. As you say you don’t smell it but you can when you leave and come back to a stink. Never cook fish 🐠 Take care out there buddy 👍🏻
I like the way you keep it real, your vids are very interesting, I love to give vanlife a try, I have been looking for a small van for years now. One similar to your van. If you are selling yours when you get a new one, I’d be happy to pay for a ready made van like yours. It looks so cozy. Keep me in mind, please , I seriously can’t find a decent van anywhere. Hello James , there is a cracking good park up just 5 mins drive from the Red kite pub, It’s in Kettlethorpe near the church. It’s a road just off the main road that takes you through kettlethorpe towards Newmillerdam it’s called church lane just off fairbrook road. A van lifer has parked on that road for well over a year now and no one ever bothers him to my knowledge anyway I live just opposite. All the best to you both .

James, on the subject of food i would like to give you a tip as to what could make your life on the road a little easier when it comes to eating. I had Cardiac Failure last year and completely lost my appetite .. I decided to get a Cheese Toastie thingy-mijig! ... It is so easy to use and in your situation it would be ideal ... You can chop up an onion nice and small, Chop up some Ham or Chicken etc (i use the cooked slices) you can buy. Then just add some grated Cheese (but squash it all up before opening the bag) .. All you do is put it all in an air tight container, add salt, pepper etc, mix it up well and you will have enough for 2/3 days depending on how much you make up. ... When you get hungry or just want a snack, get the toastie out and it is so handy and gave me back my appetite. .. Good luck mate!

James invest in a meat probe it might save you asking if its cooked it might save you from the two bob bits.great stopping in a van in summer months but i would sooner you move in with your girlfriend. The health benefits will be better off for you in the long run.
Getting a bigger van before we contemplate moving in together. This is more a lifestyle choice than out of necessity 😊

You could do with fitting one of them fan things on top of you're roof, would get rid of condensation as well. Probably not that expensive, but if you can't fit it yourself it might be a bit pricey.

The lamb burgers were a 2 pack for £3.00 the relish was £1.25, the cheese 65p and 4 bread cakes for £1.20 🙂

Hi Smithy, I have two great locations not far from the Premier Inn and they are both quite rural (the edge of small villages)
I wouldn't worry about the Copyright claim. All you need to do is put in your 'dispute' and say that it's 'fair use' and that you're talking/making a noise over it. They allow something like 15 seconds. But if you talk over it (or have driving noise over it), it's acceptable.
Nearly ever song/music I put on my videos gets a Copyright Claim, but then I 'dispute' it and it comes back ok.
Wow, that road looked really smooth. Or have you got your camera on one of those proper sticks? Almost like a video game.
Re your burger (nice one), I spray that Neutradol around the van after cooking and other things... it does what it says on the tin - neutralises the odors.
Re park-ups, I have about 6 park ups, and it's always difficult to go to 'new' places as you lay fretting all night wondering if you're going to be disturbed. It's your nervous system on 'alert'. Normal. If you're a member of the National Trust, some of their car parks are ok to stay in overnight. Or go on 'park4night', or 'BritStops' are good, but you've probably already got those.
The people who I rent my office from keep saying "It's looking a bit black over Bill's mother's"! Weird.
I'm the same with sleeping. Setting the alarm, which doesn't go off, but you wake up at the right time anyway.

Just occurred to me that there are many truck drivers out there that regularly sleep in their cab. I wonder if you could get some useful tips off those guys about safe locations and how to relax before sleeping.

To be honest, I've not thought about how long I will do it for but I think I'll be living van live for quite a while yet. Winter didn't really bother me as I've very good insulation and heating in the van
