Good review! Hoping these get a wider distribution, especially now that we have an 80th Anniversary RWS-themed Thomas, but we all know Mattel. I also noticed that the wheels seem to be more wobbly now, probably because of the thinner chassis. And yeah, a bit disappointing that they can’t run on switch track. Guess it’s time to redesign them again :P
I mean it’s … interesting … It feels weird seeing the wheels closer to the body’s . But hey Ho if they come to the uk I will get them .., back in the days before covid they were in Poundland for £1 … so if they come back like this for the same price … I wouldn’t be opposed !
The minis with the trackmaster chassis looks very strange to say the least but I’m just hoping that it works on the switches. Sort of upsetting it’s just repeats (there are some minis I don’t have in my collection yet like galaxy Ashima) but I’m excited for the 80th anniversary Thomas and Detailed classic diesel 10.
Happy 2025 mate! When it comes to the Thomas Minis range, its likely how Mattel released around five years before 2020, where they're just "buy em if you could" type of deal, two series apart, and limited to no multi packs. I did point some critical flaws with how the MINIS don't have railway based playset/system (besides Super Station: despite there not being more than enough track) and of course as you mentioned, rolling stock (despite the range being character based) a Tidmouth to Knapford launcher race set would've been fun, and even a individual pack with an engine and two rolling stock sounds nice, but that's not the case. On the Bright side, the redesigned chassis can now be compatible with Capsule Plarail track pieces (even on the switches) there's at least a miracle out of this for Minis and Capsule Plarail collectors. The 80th Mini Thomas is a lot nessacery to be released for Series 2 in 2025, tbh.
I didn't think to try it with Capsule Plarail - will do a follow up on the Community Tab/Shorts re HO Track and that! Crazy I've been making MINIS videos for 11 years!!!!
I hope they released at where I live, but... what's the point in making them work with Trackmaster track when they can't work with switch track? I think Mattel should've made a track system for the minis.
I figured you might bring up the switches, so let me bring up some info. The Motorized line is going to be redesigned back to CGI starting this year. You may have seen the new Thomas design floating around. Well, alongside those new engines, I’ve heard that they may be altering the track somewhat. That might mean that while these Minis may not work on the current switches, they might work on the track released in 2025. This is just a hunch but that’s may be what they’re planning. All in all, I do actually like the new chassis and I’m glad to be getting more new and returning minis.
@@streaksmeargle9785 I've seen the CGI motorised... Even if they changed to the track that came with the Super Station, it seems bonkers to me ... But we shall see, Mattel is full of surprises
Stuff like this really makes me question who is actually working at mattel. Like- were the just like "they can't go over points" "that's ok just just release them anyway" "but kids will be annoyed that they can't go through points, and they can't even couple up to normal motorized engines the right way" "it's fine they'll get over it"
Of course it works for motorized. Last minis with old chasie are the ones from 2024 calendar. It's not that big deal. At least Mattel is still using cgi series design of characters. Also you can't iven connect minis to push along and motorized engines because of the front coupler only time this works was with adventures engines.
Honestly I think that the quality control for the thomas minis has went down drastically. I got one of the advent calenders recently and almost all of them had problems. Most had printing issues, not all were noticable because they are just slightly skewed but some were completely off. The faces were usually printed pretty wonky and the Santa thomas wasn't assembled properly so the back wheels wouldn't turn until I too it apart and put it back together properly. A kid would probably be really sad if thomas' wheels didn't even move. When they first came out none of these issues were present. Honestly disappointed.
They dropped in quality when they changed the manufacturing to remove the metal weight - it seems they are trying to make then more and more cheaply now...
Happy new year, I’ll be looking out for the 80th anniversary Thomas and classic style Diesel 10 along the way.
@@harrisonallen651 they're in series 2 :(
@@XtremeTrainz that’s okay then
Honestly I've missed so many of them, so I think them re-releasing these ones is well welcomed.

Here's an idea, do what Plarail did and include track in the bags. They can separate or with engines and rolling stock.

I need these minis in my collection.
Wait … A NEW CHASSIS !
no way !
I Want These Thomas Minis! I love Thomas Minis So Much!! I Have A Huge Collection!
The steam Percy came with a launcher back in 2016 along with Thomas and James with The Super Station.
I’d would be cool to see a wave of all original series minis.
I don’t like how they don’t work on the older sets
They should be able to run on HO/OO tracks now they might bounce up and down on the ties though
@strasburgrailfan90 let me test that and I'll post on the community tab!

They are impossible to find In the UK now as well

I know. The ones without the metal weights never worked on the minis sets very well anyway because they were just too light.
When are these coming out to the US?
