I'm torn between trying to see Tawny as a bad guy, but also quite liking her for (even misguidedly) trying to do something right for her daughter's life... At least she isn't trying to sleep with her daughter's man...

@@nadibotha2886exactly! This sorasing just makes everything confusing.
They really don't look unhappy today. Rick looks genuinely into his time with his wife. The only time he looks/behaves stressed out is after his mother or kimberley come mewing in his ear about Amber.
*CORRECT EPISODE SUMMARY FOR EPISODE 3218* Taylor tells Thorne she convinced herself that it was over between Ridge and Brooke, and Thorne is doing the same thing. Thorne insists that Brooke is over Ridge. Ridge tells Brooke that Taylor is braver than both of them because she's willing to face the truth - their marriage is breaking up because Ridge can't get over Brooke. He reminds Brooke about the chemistry between them. Brooke says it's too late for them, but Ridge responds that it will never be too late. Ridge recalls his marriage proposal the last time they were in Italy together. He tells Brooke it was a mistake to ever leave her. Brooke pulls away from Ridge and orders him out, reminding him that she's engaged. Ridge kisses her and she finally gives in to her feelings. They sink to the bed as Thorne lets himself into the room and sees them. On the gondola, Rick kisses Amber and thanks her for his son and his family. They agree to put all of their problems behind them and make a fresh start with their marriage. When they return to the hotel, Amber heads off to buy some postcards and is surprised by Becky.

Ridge saying everything he actually is feeling and has been wanting to say but lying to Taylor saying this is an act is hilarious! Ridge looked so into this because it’s TRUEEEEE
Brooke wearing that red robe actually affects the way we interpret this scene. It is clearly meant to show her as a kind of "femme fatale" and a l us t - driven person, meaning we expect her to fall for Ridge's plan. If she had been wearing a white robe instead we would have expected the opposite, and maybe even seen the _same scene_ a little differently.
It also serves as a visual cue for the viewer who might be tempted to feel bad for Brooke. She may be the victim of a dupe in this specific deception by Taylor and Ridge, but in the larger scheme of things, she’s still the scarlet woman.

*The ambiguous show within a show* As *Nick* pointed out in an earlier episode, this scheme is yet another example of the "show within a show" trope. Eric, Ridge and Taylor are putting on a show for Thorne and Brooke, inviting Thorne to _watch_ and Brooke to _participate,_ hoping she'll "know her lines". And because we have two competing narratives, the show creates real ambiguity as to whether what Thorne sees is real or not, because Brooke is a part of the show, but she is not _acting._ The scene is staged in a way to create perfect balance between the two narratives - Brooke can be seen as _both pas s ing and fa i l ing_ this "secret test of character". She doesn't fully let herself fall for Ridge, but she is vulnerable to him, and allows him to kiss her, even on the b ed. This scenario can clearly be read two ways (and it _is_ in fact interpreted in two ways throughout this storyline, depending on the perspective of the character talking about it).
Oh I love how you extrapolate from the "show" theme (Thorne as spectator/expecting Brooke to know her lines). And then Taylor appearing suddenly is like pulling back the curtain.
@@NewYorkNick0607 yes! And she is "breaking the fourth wall" (in an almost Brechtian way) by narrating the plot _and its message_ to Brooke - who has been _both_ a spectator and an actor.
