  • Hello and welcome to my channel. I am a train enthusiast located in Victoria, Australia and just want to share some of my journeys with UA-cam. Please feel free to Comment your opinions and Subscribe to my channel :)
In this video, we get excited for the year ahead by outlining what should be completed in 2024 on Melbourne’s Metro network. Plenty of projects, highlighted by the opening of the Metro Tunnel. Maybe we will get to see our first glimpse of the X'Trapolis 2.0. Being a major milestone, this is why the X'Trapolis 2.0 Project is included in the video. The entire project will not be completed. Fun fact, for a little while this year, a total of four lines will simultaneously have one station closed. Keon Park (Mernda Line), Croydon (Lilydale Line), Narre Warren (Pakenham Line) and Parkdale (Frankston Line). Hope you enjoy the video!

If they're gonna change the horn they should make it quieter. Or at least stop them from having to use it every 5 seconds - we're one of the few places in the western world with so much horn use.

If Sandringham passengers want to go to the metro tunnel they'd change at Flinders-Townhall, or get a 58 from south yarra to go towards Anzac and St Kilda Rd. Ill be surprised if they stop them at Hawksburn
    Mernda was extended after Sunbury
Pakenham will likely stay the line name. It's still going to Pakenham (the suburb). No need to change the line name imo.

the system where destination defines the line name is unusual and confusing. More confusing when trains do not reach the final destination. eg to tell a tourist to get to mitcham, the train could be lilydale, belgrave, ringwood, upper ferntree gully etc. Much easier to say catch any green or blue line train. Line names are used everywhere else I know of including melbourne trams (rout 75 etc).

Its great these projects are being built but will the improved metro train reliability as the Sandringham and Frankston lines suffer regularly from delays between Richmond and Flinders Street as well as at Caulfield and Moorabbin/highett for the Frankston Line. These delays often add anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes to trips to the city. So far all work between Moorabbin and Caulfield has not delivered any reduction in disruptions and delays which is why I rarely use metro today or visit inner Melbourne now.

It’s weird they wanted a trench. I was a bit disappointed when I found out that Croydon was going to be Skyrail and that Ringwood East was going to be the only trench from Ringwood to Lilydale (I know Skyrail was never going to happen in Ringwood East with the existing climb up to Dubin Road).
The Ringwood East and Croydon sites are both pretty chaotic at the moment, but the Skyrail supports in progress make Croydon look worse. Croydon is also split in half for longer, as Dublin Rd will be able to reopen a month before the train returns.
In the end though, Skyrail could really transform the feel of Croydon and unify areas on each side of the station.

When the metro tunnel opens, does that mean Pakenham and Cranbourne trains do not go to South Yarra anymore or do some services just go directly to flinders street and some use the metro tunnel? And one more about the suburban loop, so when the rail loop is opened in 2030, will there be another tunnel built at sunshine station for the airport rail and a new green train running services in it? I really wanna know also I had a cool idea. I was thinking, metro could treat us with a special of how the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines would have looked like with Comeng, Siemens, HCMT and even Xtrapolis trains running timetables services from Pakenham/Cranbourne to the city and back?!

The Metro tunnel is a big waste of money. The ONLY extra capacity it will provide is by taking the Sunbury line out of the Northern loop. The Caulfield, Sandy and Newport groups of lines already have their own dedicated tracks that they don't share with other lines - the tunnel just means they will use different lines but it won't increase capacity. The Burnley and Clifton Hill group won't be affected at all. And most people who work in St Kilda Rd or up at the uni will keep using the trams because they will be faster, more frequent, and a lot more convenient.
The sad thing is there was a better way - by altering the portals to the existing city loop they could have redirected trains to run from Richmond to North Melbourne via Parliament and Flagstaff and acheived MORE extra capacity, and it would have cost a lot less and been finished years ago.
The level crossing removal project is of very little benefit to trains - it is for improving roads. There is no limit to how many trains you can run through a level crossing, it just means the booms stay down longer. Not saying they shouldn't remove them, but it should not be painted as a 'green' public transport improvement, it should be called what it is, a roads project, and be paid for out of the road budget and not the public transport budget.

THE most important LX removal on that line is Madden Gv Burnley., then High St Glen Iris. TBH, Kooyong an Tooronga are not that important compared to others on Melbourne's network. Alas, most of them aren't worth the budget spent on propaganda. The misnamed tunnel isn't a metro, and is undersignalled, and bizarrely doesn't have a station at South Yarra. The new trains are in no sense useful, and simply repeat the badly-designed misnamed 'high capacity' trains. The new stations as part of level-crossing removals are bleak and harsh: grey steel and concrete. LXRP hates greenery, and that shows in its lack of landscaping, left to die as the budget runs out. What we never get is 'turn up and go' services, or convenient interchanges. PTV hasn't learned anything from the 1850s break of gauge disaster: a new lot of incompatibility.
