    I'd like to lower the height of my 2021 CX-5 by 3"-4"... from using 19" wheels to 17" wheels, and then get into the suspension, to give it some great handling, but the 19" black spiked wheels look so good, and the present ground clearance helps me change my own oil/filter, where I can save a lot of money, and have peace of mind. From the horror stories I've heard from the dealerships and service garages, it's best that I do my own oil changes.

    Just got my 2021 cx5 CE Turbo, currently running a new turbo inlet pipe from Corksport, JB4 tuner and k&n air filter. Boost was upped to 22-24lbs on 93 octane. Seriously? 25 HP gain by installing a cold air intake? LOL! Unless this car was professionally dyno tuned, it might have gained 1 or 2 HP. You didn’t say anything about how the car suddenly produces 275 HP. And even if it was tuned professionally, I doubt the ECU would give this completely stock 2.5 turbo 4 that much more HP without changing some engine hardware. Just sayin’….

    • @scottlathrop66

    Stock figures are: 227 HP/310 Ft-lb torque on regular 87 octane gas. Now if you put 93 octane, HP jumps up to 250 and torque goes up to 320. So this CX-5 tune gives it 25 HP.

      And then there is whp which is how much power actually makes it to the wheels.
      What you talking about is crank horsepower. The reason for the difference between crank and wheel horsepower is because of parasitic drive train loss.

The only models they didn't put it in is the CX-3 and the MX-5. I think those two are too light to be given a larger and much more powerful motor seeing as a cx-3 is 2800 lbs, and Miata/MX-5 is even less. Cx-30 is 3400 lbs, and CX-5 I believe is about 3700.

They are ranked 9-10 (1-10 scale) on just about everything, stopping, rain, dry, and even an 8.3 in the snow. Also have highest g rating for cornering in all-season class. Come w/ a 50k mile warranty as they are made to last a long time. Best tire to get for an AWD that you still want a comfortable ride on the hwy + great snow driving.

    228 hp & 310 tq is the 87 octane turbo. 250 and 320 is on 91+ octane. And the steering wheel you are in love with, that is a Corksport. You can get it for any Mazda, even the 2016 style has an upgrade available from CS. They have a full Alcantra one, and the one you are using which is Carbon Fiber & Alcantra. I think the leather one is $400 and the CF one is $600. I'm surprised with the work the previous owner did, that he didn't change out the exhaust with one that has high flowing catalysts and the Corksport mufflers. I believe people get about 40+ more hp and 50 more lbs of tq. So on 91+ octane you'll have circa 300 hp and 380 lbs of tq at the flywheel.

      40 more hp just from an exhaust modification?

    • @Chrisnuzzo76
      @Chrisnuzzo76 2 роки тому +1

      @@silimarina. have you ever owned a turbo vehicle? By increasing the exhaust flow you also increase the boost because the wastegate can't release that extra pressure you get from having less back pressure, therefore you get 1-3 more psi of boost. For every 1 psi of boost a turbo motor gets between 15-22 more hp. I've had quite a few turbo cars, Audio a6 twin t v6, a4 single turbo i4, 88 Supra 3 liter i6 single turbo, Isuzu I-mark i4 single turbo, and in everyone of those vehicles the hp shot through the roof just by increasing the air flow into the intake and out the exhaust. Lesser back pressure is a turbos best friend, just don't overdo it or you'll blow a headgasket from over boosting.

    • @Chrisnuzzo76
      @Chrisnuzzo76 2 роки тому +1

      My 88 Supra turbo went from a low 15 second 1/4 mile 3.0 liter turbo with 230 hp, to beating brand new (at the time) 2003 385 hp Ford Lightnings just by building a cold air HKS intake and changing out the 2.25 inch exhaust to a 3 inch full exhaust, including a downpipe and high-flo catalytic converter. My boost guage went from 5.5 psi (stock) to pinning it past the guage's 8 psi mark. So I could only guess it was 9-10 psi. Which when going by the 15-22 hp per psi, and it being a 3 liter therefore I'd guess 17-19 hp, that gave it around 80 more hp and torque. I was beating those 14.2 second 1/4 mile Fords by 5+ car lengths.

On my previous vehicle, a 2005 RX-8 6 port that I sold back in 2013, I used a Cobb Access Port flash tune and it had a huge # of parameters that could be changed. Although I'm sure the newer ecu's are a lot different so I'm lost when it comes to tuning these new motors.
      However, I did speak to a tuner in Texas that said he could squeeze about 20 wheel hp (on 92 octane) out of my '17 CX3 motor. He said it was because it's very similar to the Miata motors of the same years. The shop specialized in Miata's. Although those were not turbo vehicles, so that's a different ball game all together. I do 2nd what you said, people should find a shop that has worked on Mazda's and see how and what can be done to get extra hp without sacrificing motor longevity too much.

    The 2017 Rx350 f sport I was driving was was faster and sportier than this but was still a turd. This is not a sporty car.
    The best thing is to grab a nice wagon like a Subaru or a Focus ST or RS and trade the extra luggage room for a real sports car like feel and you get a cheaper car with a lot more power and more features. I would much rather drive a Focus ST with the ST3 trim package or a Focus RS or a Subaru WRX wagon STI. I can not justify an SUV anymore.
    I have more of a need for a Miata with a turbo or a LS swap or a Civic with a fully built motor and turbo kit and 300hp and then a Tacoma or Frontier for a work vehicle.
    I drive a 2018 Corolla but it has 20k miles and gets 41mpg and is not too horrible and has leather and navigation and sunroof. It could be worse. It is reliable. I was driving a Lexus ISF and a RX350 F sport but I wrecked one and sold the other. I am currently building a turbo Honda that will have 500hp when done,, already have motor and trans built and on standby, and it will be reliable and have leather fronts, navigation and pop out screen that I have already, and it will be clean and it will be fast. Then I am trading my Corolla in as it is paid off and getting a newer truck as I just sold my Ranger 4x4 and my bike is for sale now. I looked at a few Lexus cars like another RX but older for work and using a trailer instead and Acuras like the MDX with a trailer attached in years 2018 and 2019 however I keep backing out because I get 40mpg and am getting rid of my bike which can get 40mpg too and I am getting used to putting in $20 and not even thinking about gas again for a few weeks. That is so nice to do. Truly a blessing.
    I drove a cx5 turbo AWD for 3 months and I liked it but it was a bit jerky for a SUV and I like the F Sport RX better just because I don't like my SUV/truck to be stuff and jerky. I want it cushy and comfortable and soft. Then I want a designated sports car type vehicle with at least 300hp, low weight, and stiff suspension so it handles like It is on rails, has lots of top end power, and sounds great and has a manual trans that is engaging and fun to use especially when you go out for a Sunday drive in the morning and you go get coffee and a few around and speed a bit. Those are the fun times.
