I find it super scary how on point this is. The point about how current tech companies are the first to make a non polluted ai training algorithm giving them a massive advantage over all future newcomers is thought provocative and accurate.
No, its the stupidest point. How does it even work? It makes no sense that it would even need such a big data set and there do exist big datasets already today, the thing is that as models progress they need smaller and smaller datasets and thats not even speaking of how the models are being increasingly trained on synthetic data.

Yup. the main dangers of AI are: misinformation, displacing jobs and the massive energy requirements of using an LLM for every mundane decision you're faced with. Less importantly: people who don't understand how LLMs work are trusting them way too much. I've heard work colleagues who work in a very specialized expert field site chatgpt as a source on a call with clients or colleagues. It's genuinely horrifying to imagine the decisions that are largely being left up to something that's essentially autocorrect on steroids.

I don't believe AI will form killer robots and take over the human race. It's wise to think that might be a possibility, but in my honest opinion I don't believe that will happen. What I think will happen is that in the far flung future, say the 22nd century, we will communicate with our appliances and our technology and you can modulate them to have whatever personality you would like to interact with. This communicative intelligence will ask how your day was, warm your blankets, cook your food, power your house and drive your car. All the while speaking and conversing with it. We cannot codift consciousness, but we can codify intelligence, and that's our best bet.

It is obvious that machine learning (AI) will be racist in general situations. Machine learning is just linear algebra and statistical mathematics. It looks for correlation. As long as there is inequality between the skin colours, AI will correctly identify correlations between protected characteristics and behaviours resulting from (not only) historic oppression
Unironically OpenAI has shut down its door on China, and therefore is called "ClosedAI" in China.

Unfortunately, EVERY LLM is "closed-souce" simply because we have no idea what is truly going on inside them, thats the reason we even have such a field of research as *mechanistic interpretability* to even try to decypher what those models do on the inside.

a) they're only going to invest in additional power to offset some of the extra power they draw, so that still represents an increase in resource consumption due to power draw
b) they're not going to switch off their training systems at night when the sun goes down, they're going to pull power from other sources, which means pulling power from fossil fuel generators a decent amount of the time even in the best case in terms of new renewable deployments
c) renewables aren't harmless, they're just less bad than fossil fuels. Burning a lot more power to do something that's arguably bad for most people isn't suddenly just fine because they're consuming land and raw materials for solar and wind instead of burning fossil fuels and messing up the climate
d) the power isn't being fed into a magic AI bucket, it's being fed into a ton of computing hardware, that's being manufactured for AI and then housed in large air conditioned server farms, consuming resources to make and taking up a ton of scarce real estate.

He released Meta's Llama for free, for research, and commercial use. You can run it on your own PC with OLLAMA.
You can retrain it, although that requires huge compute, that will cost to rent.
