Though I just got a Hydrasynth Explorer back in June 2024 and absolutely do not need another synthesizer, I am otherwise tempted by the TEO-5. (Spread across the last 20 years, I’ve owned four analog polyphonic synths, none of which were VCO models or had per-function front panels, two features I would enjoy having if I got this one.) Every demo I’ve watched serves to reinforce that temptation (even if I don’t give in).
One thing I will say about the TEO-5 is that it sounds a lot more like the OB-X8 than the OB-6 does. It’s still not exactly the same, has a lot of Take 5 in it, it’s a bit thinner, brighter and more compressed, but the envelopes, filters and “vintage motion” are more in the OG territory.
@@lukeys99 Haven’t played one, but it’s certainly appealing for the price. You have to be a fan of the Moog sound, and I much prefer Oberheim. It’s hard to compare the Muse and the TEO-5 because they’re so different in size, features and cost. That’s a case by case decision for the buyer.
Is it me or this thing sounds much more exciting than the Moog Muse? The Muse is a beast on paper but sonically speaking never fully convinces or entices me... What's your opinion?

They are the platform, however the Oscillators and the Filter are different. The TEO-5 allows you to have Triangle, Saw and Square waves combined for each Oscillator and the Filter is a 12db State Variable design. The Take 5 uses a 24db low pass Filter, so you can get more juicy Bass and darker Pads.

Totally agree with you. What's your opinion on Moog Muse?
Yeah, I agree with that, top end is more muted and the resonance isn’t as sweet, but hey, it sounds great.

How are these loaded onto the TEO-5? The SoundTower app?
Just use a simple SYSEX App like SYSEX Librarian or MIDIOX, both are free apps.
These sound really good. I'm on the fence between this or the OB6.
You can do more diverse sounds with the TEO-5, plus its cheaper, though the highs and Resonance isn't at sweet as the OB6.
