I love that $5 meals are still possible with how crazy inflation is. I made 7 dinners for $20 a few weeks ago and it was tough, but possible.
Thanks for some more meal ideas Abby ❤

A tip for fried rice- you can also make the rice the day before and let it sit in the fridge overnight before you fry it! It gives it more of the "fried rice" texture. (fun fact, fried rice was originally a way to use leftover rice!!) I think it's good both ways, this is just something I learned that I liked!

On that same theme, you should cool it on a baking sheet separated in a fridge or freezer instead of clumped in a bowl for best texture.

The BEST Rrice to use for fried rice is basmati or jasmine rice. I use hoisin sauce, and a tad of oyster sauce, as well as sesame oil in my fried rice. The sesame oil really adds the wok hei flavor we know and love from the Chinese wok cooking. Adding some sugar too helps to balance out the salt flavor of the dark (not the typical Kikoman JAPANESE sauce at most grocery stores) and light soy sauces (google it), and you’ll have that type of restaurant style fried rice that you can’t stop eating😃😃.

@@thesimplifiedsaver7052 Also use a wok, and learn how to eat up the wok. Than cook the frozen veggie first. Than fry the rice the way you did it and dont use oil. if you heat up the wok right you dont need oil. In ur video fry rice not suppose to be that wet. But good video tho not trying to be judgmental. Just giving tips.

I sauté the scrambled eggs separately and then add them to the rice. Otherwise I feel like the rice absorbs the eggs. Add a rotisserie chicken and voila! I also use a tiny bit of sesame oil & scallions.

Love these, thank you. Another super cheap meal is “corn dog casserole” my kids devour it. A box of cornbread, hotdogs & whatever condiments to put over the finished meal. Mix cornbread according to directions, slice hotdogs and add to mixture, pour in baking dish for time on cornbread box & then add condiment when finished or eat as it. It’s like $3.88 (before inflation hit) lol.

I will say when using "fresh" bacon in the bag, keep in mind it does spoil after the bag has been opened. Speaking from experience I used some for a recipe and then a few months later opened the bag back up for a different recipe, oh lord big mistake! Mold city, my bad!

My family likes the Cajun seasoning so I like to dice an onion, bell pepper (usually red), smoked sausage, chicken broth, water, Old Baby Cajun seasoning, 2 or 3 cloves of garlic 2 bay leaves and I cook it on low in the crockpot for 6 to 8 hours. I serve these over rice with a veggie on the side. Sometimes I make cornbread to go with. Just depends on how that night's going.
If I do the "ham" 15 bean soup I do a ham bone if I have one or chunks of leftover ham (I've even used the diced ham from Walmart, ham hocks or even bacon), onion garlic, salt, pepper, 2 bay leaves and enough water to cover the beans plus 2 inches or so. Then I cook them in the crockpot on low for 6 to 8 hours. I serve these ones with fried potatoes and cornbread.
