A better kick for the offense is a roundhouse or something unexpected like the question mark kick.

    The story of the founding of Savate covers this; in 1830 Charles Lecour suffered defeat at the hands of an English bareknuckle pugilist named Owen Swift. The traditional 'good old English method of deciding a quarrel' had always been to punch one another with bareknuckles, and the English despised the French method of using the feet for kicking, considering it to be unmanly, foreign and cowardly. As French fighters had, until that time, really only used their hands for blocking, parrying and slapping, it became immediately obvious that they were at a distinct disadvantage when fighting at close range against skilled fist-fighters. Lecour recognized these limitations, so took English boxing lessons from another English pugilist named Jack Adams. After a period of two years, Lecour assimilated the French kicking methods and combined them with English boxing to create la boxe francaise.

This would keep the boxer out of range and would be far less risky than throwing any kind of kick above waist height. It would also take far less energy. You obviously need to know how to defend punches, which are taught in every martial art. However they are much easier to defend against than a boxer defending against low kicks. It’s not something they train for and a boxers legs are unconditioned. Keep them away and find the distance with teeps to the legs and low roundhouse kicks to take the legs out. If it was a real fight the Thai Boxer wouldn’t need more than 3 or 4 good landed low roundhouse kicks to end the fight. Taking the boxers legs away from them. Another great video. Respectfully, I feel that using more teep / push kicks would have been a useful way to control the range... the circular kicks are good, but can be (were) negated by the boxer closing the distance (and, to be fair were not thrown 'in anger' to destroying that front leg which would have reduced the boxers mobility, but also lost a friend!)... the side kicks were good but are too slow compared to a teep / push kick which can be done as a fast kick (like flicking out a jab) or a power kick (like a cross to the body to sap the stamina). kick lover as well! however the reason punches are technically better is because kicks are too situational.
    ... then again nothing is more beautiful than sweeps so next time just sweep him constantly :D

      To a point, I mean hard leg kicks can be thrown quite a bit, especially against a boxer. They're not used to looking low, so it would land quite a bit, and then the mental game goes right out the window. Leg kicks to someone who hasn't gotten leg kicked hard before is jarring

    Emerson of Emerson knives had a drill where both people grapple and when someone says go. They try to stab each other with a rubber knife. It simulates a situation which was observed of a fight to the ground that a person got stabbed 9 times on the ground before he knew he was bleeding out. and the other guy walked away. You can also do that. In contracting we practice grappling where one person tries to pull the gun from the opponents holster while the other tries to retention his gun and also subdue the assailant.

    Great video! However, I think in an MMA situation, punches may be better than kicks? Because it may be easier to get into a clinch and do other stuff with punches, you can punch in a clinch or on the ground, while kicks are more risky since your opponent may catch your kick and take you down, I don't know if I am right so correct me if I am wrong

    While I do side with punches as a more versatile and easy to use tool as opposed to kicking, testing them out in bouts like this are unreliable, since punches are seen as reliable if they mostly connect, but its much harder to tell if a kick wouldve worked when there's less power behind it. Especially if it's a side kick thrown against a charging opponent.

    Isn't this taekwondo vs boxing? Seriously though we often drill like this in our classes. Quiet cool to see. I find the kickers become very aggressive in order to maintain distance. There's a couple of guys who are actually really good at kicking in punching distance, and can actually land headkicks in a phonebooth. Awesome video seth

  • @chitownmo

    It is true that a kick is more powerful than punch, but the advantage of punching primarily vs. kicking primarily(TKD. Karate styles) is the fact that a fighter has both feet on the ground at all times which provides more stability to attack or defend at a moments notice where as with a kick you need space, timing and deception to use properly without either potentially harming yourself(Getting checked. Foot/Leg damage on Checks and Kick catches. Missing and being out of position. Exposing the groin area on high kicks). That is why low kicks are more effective than higher or flashier kicks. Less delivery time and they flow with punch combinations easier.

    I never realized parry from karate is useful against a boxer. Like I've noticed that if he throws a punch you parry then counter for a kick. Which I never knew would be so effective against a boxer. I have never spar against a boxer before but you gave me a different perspective for karate. Osu!!

    I did 6 years of different styles of Martial arts before my dad introduced me into boxing when I was 15. I thought I had all the skills I needed. Then my dad said. You dont know anything and took me to a boxing gym. 1st day was tradition. I got my ass kicked by a guy less than 100 pounds and I was 135 pounds. I then became hooked. I spent 2 years training in boxing and then going to my brothers dojo just training with hands in sparring to the point everyone in the dojo forgot I was the senior in the dojo. They just thought I was the boxing guy. Then many years later. Muay Thai woken me up more when I went to Thailand to train. But even now. When my skills start to lessen due to either being busy or just straight slacking off. I start with the basics again. Boxing became my core out of all the martial arts I have studied. There's a saying from Master K of Muay Thai. Punches defeats Kicks. Elbows and knees defeat punches. And kicks defeat elbows and knees. Not always the case but a good reference. When I watched you. Of course casual sparring you can kick a lot more for advantage. But someone of more aggression would tank the first few hit if you even land and barrage you. That is why the kicks need to be selective and practiced heavily with pure confidence compared to punches.

  • @lightvoid7089
    @lightvoid7089 2 роки тому

    Ye, I agree with the verdict that kicks are better. You did have an advantage since you could block with the hands, but he couldn't block with the feet. But even with no advantage, as long as you can toss kicks fast enuf, the longer range makes them better. Ur kicks were lacklustre tho lol. And no leg sweeps, you never went low nor did you jump kick either which is odd.

  • @jimnoexist

    The only way a boxer would have a fair chance is in the ring. Without it, it's hard to cut somebody off and get close especially if they have kicks, which can be used as distance management.

      That's why open floor sparring matchups between outboxers and infighters are so one sided. Can't fight on the inside if your opponent keep disengaging by backing up.
