@@yuuji3795 Bro, no. I think it really is THE Tony Jeffries, olympic medalist boxer and a former undefeated pro whose channel teaches us everything boxing
Sensei Seth's video reminded me of your video about mike tyson kyokushin or something like that, you also met a boxing coach that time if i am not mistaken
Karate nerd tags in and hits Seth with his signature speculation feint to positivity observation. That gets him a solid 9.8 from the homie judges. Very classy we've learned from recent years to expect nothing less from these two karate champions.
All the advice given: Tip 1: Relax your body 0:41 Tip 2: Body weight behind the punch 1:18 Tip 3: Extend the arm 1:51 Tip 4: Step with it 2:43 Tips for hook punch power (4:12) : Tip 1: Pull the punch back 5:00 Tip 2: Turn the foot and exaggerate the hip 5:56
1 issue- for the hook he was saying don't pull your hand in a circle back towards your rear shoulder, put your hand through the bag along that lateral axis. i think.
The only issue I found with the tip 2 for the Hook is its counterintuitive for Muay Thai / Kickboxing related techniques. If you turn your foot inwards to the punch, you're open for a devastating leg kick. However, this is super beneficial for Boxing only. I copied Liam Harrison's hook which is basically transferring all your weight to your hook and exaggerate the shoulder movement.
For all you martial artists out there, Jeffries has some of the best videos on boxing fundamentals and improvement that you can find. I love Sensei Seth's videos because we can sometimes get too narrow in our disciplines and he really broadens my knowledge.
Man, his channel is amazing. His channel and Gabriel Varga's is basically where I learn the most about martial arts in UA-cam, so much great content. When you asked that "foot and then hand or at the same time" I wondered if that came from the typical kata style of movement. I always wonder about that. WT ponsae and Karate kata usually go with the body before technique.
"For more power, are you going foot and then hand?" God I appreciate you asking that so much. It's like every video I've watched since I started boxing years ago skips that and just expects you to know.
I'm a long time karate guy, but because I think cross training is valuable, I went to a boxing coach. He was all over me for the points Tony makes -- relaxing rather than being tense (which karate people are prone to), turning the hips and shoulders (which karate people are taught not to do), extending the arm, and stepping with the punch. Doing these things indeed makes a great deal of difference. Thanks Tony and Seth.
Surely not a collab I would've ever expected, but what an awesome one! Tony's channel helps me - a beginner in boxing - a lot,not only because of his knowledge, but also because of his enthusiasm towards this beautiful martial art. Great video, cheers!
I found Jeffries a year ago and he helped me immensely. I incorporated a lot of his teachings into my workouts. It is surprising how little you can know even if you have hit and kicked things for decades!
I love how sensei Seth is having a training arc training with the best out there... Is Seth planning something big like competing?

His advice looks very similar to Peter Consterdine's "double hip" punches, very nice advice, especially for those of us coming from point karate (aka foot-fist fencing) who tend to pull our punches about 5 meters before the target
An unexpected but welcome collaboration between two of my favourite channels. It's amazing what a good coach can bring to improve a person's fundamentals. Thank you for sharing!
This was really cool! The whole video was helpful, but was especially interesting when he talked about going all the way through with the strikes, which is something I've been told and have said time and time again regarding board breaking specifically, but I think I lose sight of that concept in many other situations. Love this collab, I'll for sure be checking out his channel.
Those 4 tips are great for anyone who hasn't been taught the basics for punching. I wonder how many people haven't been taught how to properly throw a punch.
I have been doing boxing for a couple of years, and until today I wasn't able to quite point out why some people have crap hooks and others have solid ones. Besides that it's always nice to have someone else repeat what you are already doing. It makes you mind a bit more.
@@Olav_Hansen agreed on that. Ive never been taught how to strike by anyone outside of a combat sport so i don't know what they are taught in terms of punches. I wouldnt mind being a fly on the wall to see how everything is taught.
Okay, if all that was with a single lesson I'm scared of how far Sensei Seth would get with a full time year round training... Also, Mister Jefrries is one hell of a coach... His vídeos helped me a ton!

Love this! Keeping relaxed is super important. I will say that keeping your arm extended can be an issue if you don’t know how to safely throw a punch tho.
Haven't watched all of it yet but already like it. We need more Gi guys learning boxing from Jeffries. Even Kyokushin has no boxing. And even Thai Boxers have less proficient boxing.
I’m glad you spent some time with a boxer. But, Tony Jeffries, Olympian, great British pro boxer. Great choice! Exaggeration vs minimization. When I was in the amateurs, it greatly improved my Shotokan. Not just power but footwork.
Relax whole body and tense fist area Get body weight behind it Extend arm fully Step with it/momentum behind it and turn at the same time your back foot/pivot body - push ground legs drive. Hook punch - stay relaxed turn hips weight behind it and through the target 🎯 pull the hand back after through the target keep tight precise and accurate Turn the foot and exaggerate the hips weight from front transfer to back foot
Wow never expected this collaboration but I love it! Love it when different Martial Arts UA-camrs I like work together and somehow it often includes Seth haha, nice video you two!
even biomechanically, it just makes sense. It clicked for me a couple of months ago. Rolling your shoulder into your punch gives you more mass behind each punch, even if the acceleration stays the same. For most, the acceleration doesn't change a whole lot without a lot of resistance band and plyometric snapping kind of exercises to improve the twitch fibers in your arm and back, so a lot of people get an instant boost by focusing on putting more mass behind each punch. Remember Force = mass * acceleration. The step in isn't about connecting with the ground or pushing the force from the ground to your body, it's about making it so that the full mass of your body is behind each cross you throw. That's how you get knock-out power. A body the bursts forward for a split second is multiplying your force by close to 200 kg/m/s depending on your body weight and acceleration, which is a ridiculous difference compared to the usual, thrown from the shoulder, beginner type of cross.
Liston used the step in technique and it’s also used in Kung Fu/Tai Chi. Dempsey and Tyson used a falling step that is even more powerful. Difference is the falling step throws all of your body weight into the punch and then you can bound out. The gazelle punch does something similar but vertically.
