The ol troublesome gas gun conversion. Had a couple M60 like that, dam things sounded like a goose if ya didn't get the mix right. Problem they'll have with those in an aircraft is that oxy/map gas mix is real fickle and won't take to the altitude changing.
@@Redspeare That's a really good clue; I hadn't thought about that. But, as you note in the next comment, maybe they are dumping them internally (either to recycle the brass (because .50 cal = lots of brass) or because dumping stuff on your active airport apron is a BAD idea).
You sure don't see THAT every day!
You really are everywhere...
I want to do this so badly

It's sad that the Nine-0-Nine crashed but the tail gun is so cool.
RIP Nine 0 Nine 10-2-2019
I was told that the Nine 0 Nine was the worst maintained B-17 ever. Super unsafe
Awesome! Love it!
amazing.
Made me giggle ...... its so cool!
Are these modified and firing burps of gas? Asking because of the "psft" before the bursts.
I believe you are correct. There is no empty brass falling out, and it was normally eject through a chute in the bottom of the tail.
But they could have rigged it up not to do that. I know that in videos of firing the waist guns, they are firing blanks. :)

Nope, that the camera attempting to compensate for the volume level, so you don't here the first shot fully, you hear the last half of the noise
