Macrame Gnome Ornament DIY Tutorial (3 Different Ways!)

- Learn how to make 3 different kinds of DIY macrame gnome Christmas ornaments in this free step by step tutorial!
I'll show you how to make boy and girl gnomes with a beard or braids, and we'll do 3 different varieties: wooden ring macrame gnomes, tassel macrame gnomes, and roving gnomes.
I'll also show you the pattern for the hat that I used for each macrame gnome ornament, plus how to add a mustache if you want! You can make a Macrame gnome Santa, macrame gnome with braids, or whatever you want.
This project is super simple, and a great way to use up scrap macrame cord. The only knots you need to know are the lark's head knot and the overhand knot.
👉 See the written tutorial here: www.marchingnorth.com/diy-mac...
For the hats:
▶︎ Empty toilet paper rolls
▶︎ Assorted yarn, string, cord, etc.
For the wooden ring gnome pattern:
▶︎ 6 pieces of scrap macrame cord in about 10" lengths (I recommend using 3, 4 or 5 mm for this)
▶︎ 3/4″ wood bead or wood ball
▶︎ 2" wooden ring
▶︎ decorative twine, butchers twine or jute
For the tassel gnome tutorial:
▶︎ 10″ long pieces of scrap cotton macrame string (enough to make a 1″ thick tassel)
▶︎ decorative twine, butchers twine or jute
For the roving gnome pattern:
▶︎ 3/4″ wood bead or wood ball
▶︎ 10 to 12 inch strips of wool roving - color depends on if you want white beards, brown, or whatever color you like! I did white, brown and gray.
▶︎ decorative twine, butchers twine or jute

It's June, and now I want to make a bunch of gnomes. They are all adorable.
Reasearching for written material about macrame I found your great PDF. From your PDF I visited your channel and it was a great emotion to find this wonderful video. The first thing I made when I learned macrame (last December) was this Gnome as Santa Claus in a workshop as part of psycological treatment. Now I´m helping the psychologist during the workshops and the pdf is another didatic resource I want to try to introduce to the participants of the workshop. Even considering that nobody can understand English, I´m sure they will understand the photos. They are very clear, very didatics. Thanks from the deepest of my heart.
I am new to this craft. I loved your tutorials thank you so much I will be giving these cute things a go.
This is one of the best tutorials I've ever seen. Thank you so much!! 🧙♂️💚
Really enjoyed.
You are so creative. I love that you use recycling as part of your craft.
I adore these. Awesomeness.
So cute!
Love, love, love
So Cute!🌹🎉
Thank you so much for the great tutorials!! So detailed. So appreciative! 🤩
Adorable I am in.. going to do them!!!❤ thank you !!
Simple and very cute! Thank you!
Adorable! Thanks for the very clear and fun instructions. (By the way, there's a surprising variation in the width of toilet paper tubes.)
That's a good point, luckily it doesn't make too much of a difference- this is one of those projects that you can just kind of go with your gut and do what feels right! Those are my favorite kinds of projects :)
J 'adore ❤ merci pour ce partage .
So easy so cute❤
😊❤
❤
I desperately need a scissors, what kind are these? Each pair I buy get dull so fast.
Love these thank you great tutorial!
The ones I use for fringe are either my Gingher's or my Kai scissors, both are great but the Gingher's are my definite favorite! I have a post right here with links to both of those: www.marchingnorth.com/best-scissors-for-macrame/
I'm having a hard time finding the cute embellishments....are yours buttons or mini ornaments from Hobby Lobby?
They're a combo of both- I found cute stuff in the button section, the scrapbooking section, and there was a big holiday end cap with cute little mini ornaments and craft supplies for making holiday decor and I grabbed a few from in there as well. 😊
Great tutorial:) do you find that the larks head knots on the wooden ring for the beards loosten? I find mine do. Do you ever add glue to them?
I've been making alot of these the last couple weeks and I put a tiny dab of hot glue on back of knot.
Sometimes they do and if I remember I'll add a little glue just in case 😊
