That was such a fun video to watch! Fellow hikers are always so friendly, so it’s nice to hear a little bit about their stories. Thanks for sharing Quinlan!
It was gratifying to see you get well-deserved recognition on the trail! We are really glad you took the time to stop and talk with people--they seemed to enjoy it as well.
Hi Quinlan thank you for sharing another adventure on Mt Iwate, it always looks so beautiful and I really look forward to seeing the changes in scenery as the seasons progress through this year. It was great hearing from other hikers and where they’re from, also great to see you getting recognised as well. Best wishes from England
It’s always a pleasure to come along with you, Quinlan. I remember hiking up Daimonjiyama some years ago…a gentle stroll by comparison😄… and everyone we encountered along the way, both going up and coming back down, greeted us with “Konichiwa” and we, in turn, did the same. It’s as though being out in nature, enjoying fine weather and good exercise, somehow removes inhibitions and engenders a sense of camaraderie when we encounter like-minded people. It was a wonderful day that I’ll never forget☺️. Thanks for another great video🙂🙏🏻
That sounds like a great hike! Those mountains around Kyoto are beautiful! Yeah- I love how friendly people become when they're hiking. You couldn't normally just have random conversations with people in Japan in the city, but everything becomes friendlier up in the mountains!
I watched it with a smile on my face with every hiker encounter. Each one is a mood boost! Did you actually speak a bit of Chinese as well? I love every video!
Yes- I still can speak basic Mandarin.. nothing fancy anymore, but I can say simple phrases and and understand the basics still. Was fun to use Chinese that day!
Oh nice! Being from Wisconsin, I'm from the culture of chatting with strangers at bus stops and cash registers... but I'm out of practice after so long in Japan!
Connecting with random strangers in the pursuit of the same goal, on the same trail is so fulfilling. This video is so beautiful and emotional for me. Thank you, Quinlan.
So fun to hear where everyone was from and to see you speak Chinese suddenly! I also really enjoyed seeing the mountain in an in-between season. The barren plants are so gnarly! And then towards the end, at 9:39, you see a person walking the ridgeline followed by what must be a little dog - I hope that was Mocha! I love it when little dogs turn out to be hardy hikers. I once encountered two women with a tiny dog who were about to cross the Hardanger plateau in Norway, and apparently their dog did that kind of thing all the time!
That was Mocha! There was only one dog on Mt. Iwate. They're actually kind of frowned upon, but not strictly forbidden. Only the second time I've seen a dog up there. OOOh, Now I have to google the Hardanger plateau... I do love love dogs though! I wish I could have one, but my schedule makes it impossible... I'll make do by appreciating other people's dogs!
Oh, what a wonderful video! As others have mentioned, it captures so well the spirit of fellowship found along the trails. But then again, who the heck wouldn’t walk to talk with Quinlan!? More videos like this would be great fun! Thank you!
This was great to watch, thank you for sharing it with us. I loved the shot of the bird, it was so relaxing. I can't wait to book you as a guide when I visit Japan!!
Hahaha, thanks! I lived in China for about 10 months before I moved to Japan. I used to be pretty good, but it's been years since I've spoken or studied so I can really only speak the bare minimum conversational level now.
@@GoNorthJapan Well i appreciate any video you put out for us, I watched with my Mum and she was super excited when you came on cause we havn't seen you in abit. Hope your keeping well, Thankyou for your content ❤
The one going up has right of way, and the people going down generally stop and move just off the trail. If you're passing someone going the same direction, generally they'll notice you coming quicker than them from behind and pause to let you pass.
Just pulling out the Chinese, so impressive. Also, would not be mad if more of these "talk to everyone" videos posted
Hey thanks! I may have to do it again then!
Agreed! I enjoy hearing their stories and seeing the comradery amongst fellow hikers.
That was such a fun video to watch! Fellow hikers are always so friendly, so it’s nice to hear a little bit about their stories. Thanks for sharing Quinlan!
Yeah! Great bunch of people! So glad that you liked it!
Hikers I feel are generally very nice people, whenever I pass people usually I say at least hello when on a hike
Definitely!
It was gratifying to see you get well-deserved recognition on the trail! We are really glad you took the time to stop and talk with people--they seemed to enjoy it as well.
It was a great day! So many people there, and mostly from far away!
Danke!
Thank you so much! Really appreciate that!!

Man this is so cool. Id love to do this. but Ill never be able to.
Well you never know!
Thank you for taking us along on a beautiful day!! I find it difficult to talk to strangers AND to hike, so this was refreshing and inspiring for me.

The Mt. Fuji hikes were fun as well!
ah this was so wholesome, i did not expect that. The people were all very sweet :)
Thanks for sharing beautiful hike.
Thanks for watching!
Oh, what a wonderful video! As others have mentioned, it captures so well the spirit of fellowship found along the trails. But then again, who the heck wouldn’t walk to talk with Quinlan!? More videos like this would be great fun! Thank you!
Sure, it's easy enough to talk to other hikers, and most are totally fine about being filmed.
Awesome video!
Thanks!
Luv the new vid concept Q-ball :)
Great thanks!
I'm working on getting in shape (after covid pneumonia) so I can go on one of your tours this fall!
Best wishes going your way! Hope you recover quickly and completely! Would be great to take you up somewhere for fall colors!
@@GoNorthJapan that's the idea! I'll check out your website for suggestions on good locations. You are an inspiration!

What a fun video, it's always so good to see your enthusiasm. It's clear how much being in the mountains brings you to life.
So glad that you liked it! And yeah- I do get a burst of energy when I'm out in the mountains that I love!
This was great to watch, thank you for sharing it with us. I loved the shot of the bird, it was so relaxing. I can't wait to book you as a guide when I visit Japan!!

NICE!! Yes!
Looks like more fun than what you mentioned: going up Mt Fuji multiple times. I don't even want to do that once.
Ahahaha, yeah, definitely!
Very beautiful area! I am glad so many folk knew you. That is lovely.
It really is beautiful, as now with a lot of flowers blooming it's even more beautiful than when I filmed that!
😂 you famous u tuber you . Loved this so friendly . 😊
Ahahaha, yeah people are really nice.
You're officially a super famous UA-camr now that you've been recognized by Japanese hikers on Iwate-san. I didn't know you could speak Chinese!
Hahaha, thanks! I lived in China for about 10 months before I moved to Japan. I used to be pretty good, but it's been years since I've spoken or studied so I can really only speak the bare minimum conversational level now.
Another great video thanks. :Love the Dr Jelly reference!
Ahaha, thanks!
Thanks for sharing! It was a beautiful day, the mountain always seems to change no matter how many times you do the hike. Its so beautiful.
Totally agree! Mt. Iwate is always changing with the season and the trail, I'm never tired of it!
Great video. Neat to see where all the hikers were from
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
I really enjoyed this. Thank you !
Looked like a nice day for a hike. Too bad the clouds were covering the summit.
Yeah... I just try to appreciate whatever the conditions are. I'll have plenty of other clear days up there this year!
it is very cool to see my brother in this video
Really??! Nice! Which one was he?
Such a good video, keep them coming please! ❤
Thanks! I'll do my best, though been busy so my upload pace is likely to continue to be slower than before..
@@GoNorthJapan Well i appreciate any video you put out for us, I watched with my Mum and she was super excited when you came on cause we havn't seen you in abit.

This was really nice
Thanks!
What kind of sandwich did you eat?
Ahaha, I can't remember. It was something from a convenience store though, I didn't make it myself.
What are the rules in Japan on passing someone on a narrow trail?
The one going up has right of way, and the people going down generally stop and move just off the trail. If you're passing someone going the same direction, generally they'll notice you coming quicker than them from behind and pause to let you pass.
Midwesterners, unite! 😁
YES!!
MIDWESTERNERS UNITE!!! Ope, let me just sneak past ya and grab the ranch...
Perfect.
