Budo and Tracy, that barn is a beautiful structure. It will serve you well in the future. I don't consider it bad luck. These things happen when you unearth ground that hasn't been moved for years. I love your plans. Aside from Budo doing workshops, Tracy has many skills as well. She can teach her crafts and pointing, etc. If she would be interested in that? I think you both will make excellent teachers, instructors or what have you.❤
I think you are totally doing the right thing, moving the workshop away from the house... It separates, work from your home.... Plus I'm guessing it will get a bit noisy too.... Your doing so well, looking forward to the next installment, keep up the good work both of you....
What a great building. I love your idea of making money for your homestead. The locals will be blessed to learn from you. You are both so multi-talented. I’m a senior and your lifestyle is what I wished I had been able to do in our life. Wonderful podcast. Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
You will be so much more efficient and less frustrated when you can set up your workshop in the barn. Having to work in a cramped space where you can't leave everything set up for use wears you down. Absolutely the right plan, and I'm jealous of the great workspace you are going to have! Looking forward to seeing you put it to work.
Boo do you do such wonderful work your skills are amazing when you move the workshop to the Barn then you can rehab that section of the house. Great hope to see you guys soon.
I think its exciting and an excellent idea to invest in your future income. Its a beautiful barn and should be used. Looking forward to watching you worker bees take it on!
I'm absolutely in awe of you both! I'm so sorry about the digger. Murphy's law is what we call it. Love your plans for the barn. It all makes perfect sense. I'll be watching as always and hoping you manage your expected timeline. It will, I'm sure, make a huge difference to your lives and reduce the frustrations. Very exciting.
Thank you so much Carol for your wonderful comment and yes it will be so nice for Budo to have a workshop and to have the house clear. Thank you for watching 💖💖
Hi Tracy & Budo. That sounds like a terrific plan to get your workshop done. The building itself is beautiful! We know you are a perfectionist Budo, but if you can get it functional don’t worry about beautifying it for now. TBH your plans always overwhelm me but you two are so positive & hardest workers on any channel! We definitely all need to help you get more subscribers by mentioning your channel Everywhere we all post comments! WE CAN HELP THEM! Take care. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! Kathy your comments are always very positive and very encouraging thank you once again for watching. Thank you for watching and have a great week 💖💖xx
Bless you both.....your having our luck. Our mahindra tractor broke and had to have it put in the shop. Air conditioner in our house broke and had to buy a new one, air conditioner in my husbands truck broke. And several other expensive things beside all that. All I can do is shake my head and laugh at my bad luck. Best wishes and prayers sent your way.

Great idea to utilize this empty space as your workshop. I think it’s perfect and honestly well big enough. Hope your son had a wonderful time visiting you and I’m sure his mum will spoil him too. ❤😊
I think it's a great idea as temporary workshop. But I would prepare electricity, water etc for a holiday let, air bnb, or space to hold your carpenter "school" once your worshop close to the road is built. Make it a multi purpose building. Upstairs bedrooms, etc. For volunteers, students, guests.
Budo is such a fantastic carpenter, you will never have to worry, you’re both so good at what you do. Looking forward to see how everything moves on. ❤❤
Just a bit of a bump in the road, but sometimes it happens. Your plans for the wood shop sound terrific so "Crack On" and best wishes for some great good luck👍🍀🍀🍀
Great that you have a plan.. you need a revenue source to keep everything going ahead and you seem to have looked at it all carefully so I wish you all the best in making it happen, really annoying about the digger hope you can get it repaired quickly.. All the best to both off you Robb Torremolinos Spain
Great idea with the workshop. Is that the same barn where you had the inscriptions on the beams, or was that another building? Did you ever find out what the inscriptions were?
Thank you we think so as well Richard and yes it’s the same barn and the TV filmed in the barn on Friday and filmed the inscriptions and they will get an historian to translate the writing for us 😍thank you for watching xx
It's a beautiful barn and a beautiful plan. You will be able to enjoy the house so much more without all the equipment in it in the way. So sorry about the digger. Hopefully it will be a quick fix!
What a great plan you have, absolutely beautiful building. Fantastic to have your workspace for you and subsequently to have an income, so excited for you both and also to free up space in the house!! . Amazing project. Sure your old mate will help you with repairs to the digger. Thank you for sharing your journey ❤ xx
Loving the Kitchen island Budo Tracy will be so happy. Love the plans for your workshop too, sorry the digger needs a repair I hope it’s not too much trouble and expense for you. Thank you for the video I enjoyed though
The Barn workshop will be a game changer for you Budo and with both having a clear house the mindset will also change. Maybe some local labour help to progress the project. Bugger with the broken pipe. Look forward to seeing the changes. Have a great week.
Love what you two do. I can't wait to see the kitchen finished, and now the workshop! Make sure you show your new subscribers the other things you have done in the past ...Maybe you can do a 4 year (what we've done up-to-date) around the New Year. I miss seeing the bathroom and bedroom you've already completed! Keep on moving forward!
It makes sense to utilise what’s there. It’ll save you time which is very precious and money, even though you put out € initially. You can always in the future revisit your original plans. Good luck. Busy times ahead. Bravo you two. ❤❤
Oh what a bother when things break and they were going so well. Love the stone building hate the tin roof, but it will do for now. Bad luck sometimes comes calling and she usually comes in threes' so be careful won't you. My brand new hot water system has gone out tonight and it's only 2 months old, hopefully the sparkie will come tomorrow and fix it, but like you it's a nuisance and has upset the plans for tomorrow. Chin up and keep smiling and we all look forward to next week, cheers from Plessala.😊
Yes it is Kim but it will be fixed 😍for now it will do but in the future we will look at it. That is a bigger hope you get it sorted have a great week 🙏😍xx
Your workshop plan sounds like a good common sense approach to getting your workshop expanded and out of your house. Which gives you both a clear passage to getting your house finished and a much larger and more efficient workshop…. Good solid planning for your future. Hopefully any equipment breakdown will be temporary and not delay things over long. Cheering you on from PA, USA.
At the being I always thought this would make a good workshop, you can restate the track to the back lane and get access down to your other wooded area across the road opposite your cottage project, this would make great addition to your Farm, when you build your new workshop the barn would be a great storage area for your produce.
Great idea, personally I’d make it permanent. Then when you build the other one on the side of the house give it to Tracey as her workshop for the lavender and craft.
A wise decision! You may find the separation of 'work' from your home is better, and forget about the attached workshop. Or turn the proposed workshop space idea into an apartment for rent to vacationers and people enrolled in your future classes. I really enjoy your videos and look forward to them. Please remember to take time for yourselves ❤️
I love your historic barn and the project to rehab it. A couple comments: by removing soil around the foundation, how will you manage drainage? Secondly, I wish you would reconsider bricking in origional openings! The stone arch is gorgeous!
Hi Deborah thank you on the drainage I'll explain that in the next video as a few people have asked and on the windows and door openings I'll be closing them in very simplefeticlly so in the future people could always undo it as it won't work with what I am doing but you will see this in up and coming videos all the best Budo xx
I love that you two are so forward thinking! Always looking to the future, especially with financial, time planning, wants vs needs, etc… I love listening to your explanations of your plans (how’s and why’s). Thank you for keeping the channel going☺️👏
love the cupboards Budo , it will look lovely 🥰 bon courage with the barn☺ i do not know anything about hydraulics , hope you got it sorted. all the best Y
I would not be surprised if you were to find out that the barn was at one time a house since many old houses were converted into barns after a new house had been built. You should incorporate the writing on the beams into the new shop somehow to preserve that part of its history. I am sure it will look good once you have fixed it up a little. You should put in a log burner (with the corresponding chair) so you can have a warm spot to sit and contemplate your ideas.
Thank you Truman myself and Budo had this conversation regarding the barn could of been a house back in the past a great observation from you as usual thank you and a great idea 💖💖
Making the barn into your workshop is a brilliant solution to a very pressing need. You can be far more efficient with more space with all your tools out and ready for use, rather than switching out and packing away. You will be totally organized. I know you will aim for perfection but you need it to be functional, warm and dry and you need it far sooner than building from scratch will allow you. Plans are changed as needs dictate. It will move faster if you have your son and anyone else over to assist you. It is a setback having the digger break at this crucial time, I pray that you can find the problem and have it fixed fairly quickly. You are both so upbeat and do not show us any negative vibes, but I am sure when the camera's are off you vent freely, shake it off, roll up your sleeves to get stuck in once again. Praying for a quick fix to the digger. from Saskatchewan, Canada PS. I added your channel to my fb page, hopefully you get more subscribers from it.
Ronnie thank you kindly for adding us to your face book page every little helps as they say 🙏 and yes you are right on what you say about the work shop and good news I personally fixed the digger with two new pipes and a separate fitting as well as new hydraulic oil so trench is finished and we are moving forward again 😀 happy days
Please don’t change the out side structure! The barn is so beautiful and so old leave it the why it is just new doors and makes windows for all the little ports. Save the architecture. I don’t think I’d get rid of the deeper part of the barn either it might be very handy. Love all your projects just wish you weren’t so far away.
Sounds like a good plan, but if I were you I would have it as my Permanent Workshop especially when you are working doing things for others, your work place then is completely separate from your Residence, so at the end of the working day you can retire to a lovely quiet home. If it was next to the house it would be always noisy and you would be tempted to not finish your work day. It's a beautiful building. Can't wait to see you restore it to its former state.
Well thought out plan. But how you and Tracy are going to get this sorted in 2-3 days a week over 8 weeks is mind boggling. Here’s from Shirley In Australia 😵💫
Thank you so glad you think so Shirley. With a lot of hard work, it might be we will have to put in extra days to get it finished but it will be a gamechanger in every way for us here at the farmhouse .Thank you for watching 💖💖
Very nice planning on kitchen island . Question Where the blank door panels are is it possible to have a very slim spice area? Or place for foil or parchment paper? Items?
Hi Vickie thank you I'll be building the spice racks in the doors of the larder cupboard so keep watching over the next couple of months to see the progress all the best Budo xx 😀
The new plan sounds like a good one, why build another building when you have one used. Also, it'll mean that beautiful barn gets the attention to needs, as well as you getting a working space. Think of it, you'll be able to go home from work, instead of work being at home. Never underestimate being able to shut the door and call it a day.
Hi Simon thanks yes I know what you mean buddy nice to shut up shop in the evening and go home I had this when we was back in England 🇬🇧 all be it on a smaller scale glad you enjoyed the video buddy 😀
Sounds great fixing up the barn but will you be able to reverse up to the barn with a vehicle to load heavy stuff? Also, you've probably thought of it already, a carport to place your vehicles and caravan under to protect from the weather, ie: hail. Its also another water catchment for you. Make sur you put a fuel stove in the barn so you can keep warm. With the power, have you thought about an Ecoflow generator? It may help. Hubby and I built on property so I know about problems. Wishing you all the best. Hugs :)
4:35 the design on the sides of the posts on the island must be a very traditional design for cabinet legs because I just saw the same thing on the legs of a 200+ yo billiards table in the most recent video from the folks at Chateau de Purnon. Really amazing a detail like this survives to the modern day! P.S. Is this the barn that had the medieval carving on one of the beams? When you said you were going to level the floor inside, I wondered if the beam that has the carving on it is the you’ll have to take down? Otherwise, magnificent plan. Good luck finding the broken pipe or whatever it is on your digger. 🙏
Thank you Sylvanaire l follow Cháteau du purnon and l noticed this as well and pointed it out to Budo. Yes it is and we will use it somewhere else and thank you for watching 🙏🏻😻
Will be one hell of a workshop for sure. Shame about the breakdown, thats the way of it unfortunately. I can imagine that wee digger owes you guys nothing with the amount of work it has done over the years.
Hi Brian thanks yes the digger has been a treasure doesn't owe us a penny also you will see in the next video I've fixed it and it's running better then ever mate 👍🏻 😉
@@FrenchFarmhouseDiaries you are the real deal mate. I am a woodshop and construction teacher at 2nd level school. Teach woodwork, construction studies, cad, and technical drawing to 12 to 18 year olds. I'd love to do what you are doing when I retire.........My missus wouldn't climb a ladder though😀
6x10 Budo is two small I think you will struggle I can see your logic but a lot of work and have you looked into setting up a legitimate joinery company in France talking all from experience 👍
Hi Paul believe me I won't struggle this size is fine for a workshop as I don't want to have a fully fledged joinery business here specifically at my age i just want to be in the system ticking over mainly running workshop weeks making a bit of money as an auto entrepreneur paying my taxes but working lightly into my retirement 😀
Have you watched Stories from Cascina? They always finish an episode with a finish project even if it is just cutting grass or cleaning an out building. They do not talk much throughout their individual projects for him wood working repairs. Her cooking, painting, window repairs. They don’t talk over each other, never discuss money, are very low keyed and have over 66000 subscribers. Maybe you need another approach. Something to think about.
Hello Cynthia no sorry we have not thank you for your suggestions and if in the future we have people complaining about our videos then maybe we will take a different approach but our viewers are not they are very positive and encouraging of what we are doing thank you for watching
@@FrenchFarmhouseDiaries don’t be fooled by people always praising you. Are they self-serving, probably. You want to grow your channel and support yourselves. You said so in the last video and many others. Reward your talents, not hinder yourself.

encore un beau projet
Thank you 🙏 merci beaucoup xx
love the cupboards Budo , it will look lovely 🥰 bon courage with the barn☺ i do not know anything about hydraulics , hope you got it sorted. all the best Y
Thank you guys ❤️🙏xx
Thank you so much for your comment and thank you for watching 💖💖
Sounds like a good plan, but if I were you I would have it as my Permanent Workshop especially when you are working doing things for others, your work place then is completely separate from your Residence, so at the end of the working day you can retire to a lovely quiet home. If it was next to the house it would be always noisy and you would be tempted to not finish your work day. It's a beautiful building. Can't wait to see you restore it to its former state.
Good point! thank you for watching 💖💖
Who knows you decide later on to keep your workshop there permanently! 😉🤷♀️ bit of pointing there Tracy lol.
As you know lna things are very fluid here at FFD thank you for watching and have a great week 🙏😍xx
Very nice planning on kitchen island . Question
Where the blank door panels are is it possible to have a very slim spice area? Or place for foil or parchment paper? Items?
Hi Vickie thank you I'll be building the spice racks in the doors of the larder cupboard so keep watching over the next couple of months to see the progress all the best Budo xx 😀
Great idea to rethink making barn into a shop…but I would make it permanent. Other income could come from your gite, don’t forget.
Great idea! Penny thank you definitely something to think about for the future thank you for watching 🙏😍xx
@@FrenchFarmhouseDiaries Looking forward too seeing the revitalisation of that beautiful building. And you working in it, obviously.
The workshop sounds fab, shame about the digger.
Thank you for watching 🙏😍xx
💜💙💚
Thank you for watching ❤️🙏xx
Sounds great fixing up the barn but will you be able to reverse up to the barn with a vehicle to load heavy stuff? Also, you've probably thought of it already, a carport to place your vehicles and caravan under to protect from the weather, ie: hail. Its also another water catchment for you. Make sur you put a fuel stove in the barn so you can keep warm. With the power, have you thought about an Ecoflow generator? It may help. Hubby and I built on property so I know about problems. Wishing you all the best. Hugs :)
Thank you for your suggestions and thank you for watching have a great week 💖💖
Oh wow I had no idea you needed to earn again. I figured you’d saved your millions. I’m sure it’ll be fantastic.
Yes mate we only had around 4.5 to 5 years money infront of us so hopefully we can start earning next year buddy 😉 👍🏻
