  • This video is about the Midi Rotary Interface (Crumar). Unfortunately I forgot to bring my half moon switch for the Crumar Mojo, which would have been nicer and more clarifying to show. Maybe next time :)

    For a good restitution of leslie, the rotary sound must be stereo, crossing from left ear to the right.
    For taking sound with microphones, an artificial Neumann's head would be perfect.
    When i listen authentic Leslie, i put my head in front of the cabinet, and sound turns from left to right side really.
    Howver, your prototype system is an digital artificial processor, with left and right Jacks outputs for Stereo Chorus.

      BAISIN Christophe in this case it actually uses only one output to go to a real Leslie.

    CRUMAR MOJO have digital samples of tone wheel organ like B3 or spinet( Hammond organ with vaacume penthods )
    CRUMAR( CRUciannelli MARio ), made a lot of analogue electronics organs with sound like hammond, in past
    Nord Electro is sampling B3 tone wheel and spinet sounds

      Not true, the Mojo has no samples. It’s modelled. And the old Crumar has nothing to do with Crumar now.

    Frank, Thanks for the info and replying so fast. I hope the "Solo" comes down a few hundred dollars in price. Also wish the Crumar came in a single manual version. I would love to have a 2 manual organ but just don't have the room. Keep putting out that great music, love listening. Leo

    You didnt use the vibrato chorus on the Nord which is top notch and there are some darker Nord b3 type settings that you could have selected. plus its important to run the Nord in stereo.I do like the Mojo but have never seen one in stores in the West Palm Beach area.Sounds good om UA-cam however The leslie effect on the Mojo in this demo utilizing the Leslie Cabinet was excellent.The Crumar had much more low midrange which is more characteristic of that Jimmy Smith Hammond B3 sound.

    • @frankmontis
      @frankmontis  5 років тому +2

      Music Lover 100 well, this was not a demo of the Nord or the way it sounds. And it sounds good without the vibrato as well. I was testing the interface. The Nord may run best in stereo but on a Leslie you connect mono. There’s no use sending a stereo signal into a Leslie. ;-).

    Frank, Really enjoy your playing, the drawbar registration you use, how you use the leslie, the whole sound. Have you had a chance to compare the Mojo with a KeyB? I'm looking into the KeyB Solo mklll, partly because there is a dealer in Nahville, not too far from florida where I live. Right now there is a dispute between DMI and the parent company in Italy, so they are not in production. Just wondering what your opinion is. Thanks, Leo

    Where can I find an assembled midi rotary interface box designed specifically for the Crumar Mojo and the Leslie 3300? Thanks, Paul

    wonder why NORD didn't put a 11 pin or the 8 pin for the Leslie 3300

    Hey Frank, have you ever compared the Crumar to the Nord C2D? I'm about to buy an Organ and I miss the 4 sets of Drawbars in the crumar. You're a great player! Thanks

    Hi Frank! Inspired by you, I bought Crumar Midi Rotary interface and all around it to make this box like you. I saw that you used Hammond aluminium box for it. Please may I ask you to tell me which are dimensions of your box (L/W/D) in mm so I can find the appropriate one? Thank you in advance! All the best!

      Frank Montis Thank you Frank! This one like on the video is appropriate for me, because I only have 1/4" jack instead of your multipin jack for 3300. Thanks!

    I have the Leslie models: 122, 147 and solid state 110. Does this interface work with all of them? Does it have to be set up differently for each one? Thanks in advance.

      Would it be expedient to use one connector box for all three aforementioned Leslie types? ie: Are the adapters wired in and take time to change? And would I also need a combo preamp to use with vintage Leslies or will this little box alone do the trick?

    Hi! I have problems with the stop position on the half moon switch. When I test the signals on the Stereo Jack Out (that goes in the leslie 3300), the signals macht the manual on the rotary manual.
    Slow on HalfM is TRS ring, and TRS Sleeve
    Fast on HalfM is TRS tip, and TRS Sleeve
    Stop on halfM am I not sure what signals comes out... it says board pin 6 opens for stop.
    But when i have plugged the jack in the leslie,
    slow position on HalfM is slow on Leslie
    Stop on HM is fast on leslie
    And fast for about 2 seconds is Stop on Leslie... !
    Can u help a fellow comrade with some leslie 3300 Problems? I Use the Mojo just like u, and have just put the jumper on nr 1. :)
    Feedback is much appreciated !! cheers

    What exactly is a "midi rotary interface"? What does it even do? And after spending that kind of money on the 3300, why is there a need to even add anything to it?
    Forgive me, I'm not an audiophile. I have always had a strong belief, that if I buy something, it ought to do everything I want it to, right out of the box, without having to add anything to it.

    • @frankmontis
      @frankmontis  2 роки тому

      It connects the Crumar Mojo the Leslie in a way that you can use the onboard controls of the Crumar to control Leslie speed as the first Mojo wasn’t built to do that. Later versions came with a built-in connection to an 11-pin Leslie.

    Not bad but you need to have more flippity flop in your frizzle fry. Just kidding. That was some grade A 100% beef there. I worked up a sweat just listening to it. How come I don't have a ton of your recordings on my ipod! What's wrong with me?! ;)
