- Ive been guilty of ignoring alot of world whiskies, not intentionally! It's just that there's so much to get through, and you want to make sure that you're reviewing things that apply to yourself and your viewers.
But not reviewing whiskies from Paul John was a bad idea from me; this stuff is delicious! The Edited is a peated, natural colour, non chill filtered offering from the Goa based distillery.
Established in 1992 and still going strong, Paul John is something that I'll be paying much more attention to in the future! Full of tropical fruit and a smoke that is almost like scented chocolate, this is an impressive whisky for £40.

Glad you enjoyed this release too. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Hi Phil, fine review. Really liked it. I am a novice regarding Indian whisky, but I will particpate at an online tasting introducing four Paul John Christmas editions. Looking forward to it. Cheers from Germany, Oliver
Ooooooooo! Do let me know your thoughts on those.
Nice review. I haven't had any Ardnamurchan but to me Edited showed quite a few similarities with Springbank 10😀 I have tasted the entire Flagship range of Paul John and Edited is my favorite expression, followed by Bold and Brilliance.
Cheers!
Now that you've said that, I tried both side by side and yes, I get it. I'd love to try Ardnamurchan in more sherry as I think it would get closer to the chocolate notes in the PJ. Both excellent!
I like the Bold which is slightly more peaty (30-35 ppm) and uses Islay Peat from near Port Ellen. Edited is 10 ppm, possibly with peat from Aberdeen.
This makes alot of sense!
Hi Phil, my John Paul is called ‘Bold’, a lightly peated version , not bad actually. Haven’t had this though. When you mentioned oats it reminded me that craft beer brewers put oats in the mix to give their beer a certain creaminess. As always, a good honest review. Cheers Phil.
Was once a very common feature of Irish pot still styles too.
Nice review as ever, sounds like an intriguing one. Have yet to try any Indian whiskeys myself, need to get some Amrut first but will certainly give this a look if I come across it. I like a bit of soft peat, so sounds good to me.
Fusion is wonderful!
Brilliance - non peated, Edited - 10 to 15 ppm & Bold - 20 to 22 ppm.
Hey Phil. I have two Xmas edition. One is finished in PX and the other one is finished in Oloroso. Very good both. Hey, this camera set up not that good. Maybe the lighting....!? Anyhow, enjoying your great reviews. 👍
Yeah, better lighting on the way in the new year!! But it'll do for now. Paul John has really got me! Time to find Xmas editions!
Sounds very tasty. Just wondering if it is chill filtered though?
It is non-chill filtered.
Nice review. There is no 'excellence' in their range. It's Brilliance, Edited and Bold. The peat they use is a mix from Aberdeenshire and Islay but I think it's more of the former Highland style in the Edited. Do try their Xmas editions. According to me and I speak for meself, they're the best in their range in terms of price vs quality.
Where the hell did I get 'excellence' from? Id have put strong money on that being true. Happy to be proven wrong though.
I have tried every Paul John, but in my opinion none can compare to the wonderdul Amrut whiskies. I wish that I had rather spent all of the money on Amrut whiskies.
Amrut is delicious! I wonder how they both have these huge creamy notes. I know Amrut use two row barley for a bigger texture.
