Thank you, one and all, for reminding me, at the end of this difficult and taxing day, that there remain things of great beauty in this world.
absoloutely gorgeous. She should be treasured. I cried...Fowlis that was beautiful girl
I love this song so much I had it for the first dance at my wedding. Julie Fowlis is an angel. This is the best song she has ever recorded and this version is, in my opinion, even better than the one on the album.
I keep returning to this beautiful piece. Such a joy to listen to and to just ponder. Even at its most challenging, life is wonderful, wondrous and filled with thingies to discover. Thank you for sharing this beautiful Folk artist.
Possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard. It makes my hairs stand on end every time.
Magical Mesmirising Haunting ........... a Spiritual Experince. Thanks for sharing your love of such wonderful songs and music with us.
This is absolutely stunning. I am nearly in tears. Keening and lyrical and beautiful. Phew.
I have very bad insomnia and this is the only song that can put me to sleep. I put it on repeat every night. So calming.
Your voice is a universal language.
I understand not a word but I understand the feelings expressed.Beautiful rendition.
Truly wonderful, Alba Gu Brath!
This is so wonderful... and with the great Aly Bain as well. Snowing outside. Nice and cozy! Come on! You don't get any better.
Please keep this language alive
+1lightheaded You've got as much a chance of learning Gaelic as anyone in Scotland. The majority of schools here have zero interest in teaching it. Shameful, appalling situation :(
That is Mesmorizing absoluting breath taking! I love her singing this has me in tears so pretty my grandpa got to see it as he is full scottish came over here at 15year old to elise island new york he loves her already.
Just magnificent. I've been on this channel for a few years now and have seen this clip often but, this week past, it has had a very personal and particular significance which has made it all that more powerful and poignant. Julie, what a gift you are.
Julie's 'gift' is still here 3 years later Peter.
My goodness, this is a beautiful song. Thanks for posting.
IMHO the angels in Heaven must have been taught to sing by the women of Ireland and Scotland.
As a highlander and a Gaelic spea ker
Love this. From a gael.
Yes...Gaelic is a beautiful language and when it is sung by this woman it sends some wonderful chills down my spine...
Oh Man-this is just stunning. What a voice
To tell my feelings I must sing something as beauty!
One of my favorites by her.
Me too! It's beautiful.
I love how Bruce Molsky is absorbed in the beautiful sound of her voice, as am I.
Gorgeous! I take it this is Scottish Gaelic....breathtaking!

To beautiful to be true.
Breathtaking song.
Just been on her website and she is mentioning the "flooding in cockermouth!" Am I the only one who finds that quite funny??
Joking aside, she has a translation to the lyrics and they are so beautiful in English as well as Gaelic! Brilliant artist. Truly amazing work. :)
just fantistic so so good
Beautiful. Gle Mhath! I hope she does this one for her next album.
Its my fave! Its slower and more beautiful than other ones I've heard. Plus her voice is beautiful, and the instrumentalists are brilliant!
Sie ist in Wirklichkeit eine Heiligerin von Branwen geworden...!

Who can dislike this.

Dh'ionnsaich mise an t-oran seo bhon a chlar "Back to Barra". Chaidh an clar suid a-mach airson a' togail airgid airson hospice ann am Baigh a' Chaisteal, Barraigh. Tha Julie Fowlis uabhasach math air an t-oran seo- guth bhreagha aice 's te laghach a th'innte.
Slainte mhor dhuibh xxx
Hauntingly beautiful. I should try and find the translation - but then again, maybe not.
Just the kind of tunage to put a three year old to sleep at bedtime. By golly it worked great too. Thanx
Beautiful melody, mystical language, what language is this ?
If you dont like this, you're probably not human.
:)
Google search for "barra records back to barra lyrics".
Should come up with them there.
"The Sheiling in Brae Rannoch"
You are almost right on these lines. They are:
"Gheibh sinn crodh as a'Mhaorainn
Agus caoraich a Gallaibh"
Hope that helps.
Slainte!

A full translation would be "The Sheiling in the Bracken Hill 2
Tha sin math!
And we'll rear them in a sheiling
in Bràigh Raithneach,
in the brush-wood enclosed hut of dalliance.
The cuckoo will sing
its song to us from the trees,
the brown stag and its roaring
will wake us in the morning.
See barrarecords for words. They have a web site.

Should've mentioned that it's track #4. :)
Does anyone know where the lyrics are for this? cheers

was it really necessary to see the pre-session grooming-but a disgusting dress showing too much flesh which would be ok with a top cover on it!
