Hey everyone! Long time no see... I've had to take an unplanned break from UA-cam... but I'm back! My sincerest apologies for giving no updates or signs of life in the past months; Those are just a few random organ improvisations to start waking my lil youtube channel back up.. But I expect to have a fully operational battle station here soon ;) My utmost thanks to everyone here, take care
As a church organist in California and constantly using improvisation for communion service, I find your videos are inspirational. Thank you. Je vous remercie infiniment !
I'm so happy to see you back!!! You channel is genuinely amazing, and the few articles that you've put up on your site as well. Keep up the tremendous work, and continue representing classical improvisation!!!!
Awwww Many thanks!!! I loooooooove improvisation so I'm always very happy to share that! And yeeees I absolutely need to come back to the blog. In fact I had a whole new version of my blog ready for like a YEAR or two (yes i knoww...) and never posted it.. I'm getting back into the rhythm though, so I hope to see some action there too ;)
Ohhhh! Many thanks! You've very welcome! Buxtehude is a fascinating composer with veeery interesting harmonical transitions that have a delicious rawness to them!
comment as tu adapter le piano midi a Hauptwerk, j'ai aussi le logiciel mais j'ai du mal a m'imaginer comment assigner 3 claviers sur 1 claviers midi alors que pour toi ca sonne bien
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! I'm very happy to be back, and I was actually away from UA-cam as a whole; So I just am so happy that I have a lot of your *amaaaazing* videos to catch up on! Very glad to be back, and many thanks for the comment!!
I can improvise alright in the key of G now, thanks for making good videos. My favorite is the ' bouncy fugue'. And the 'bad but fast' improv. I practice slow a whole lot in G cause the leading tone is a black key so I can feel where I am in the scale. I go into other keys a little of course like a b minor d major e minor
Many thanks! It's a bit experimental, but will keep trying to improve the production quality for sure.. There's a LOT that can be improved upon hehe ;)
Many thanks Benoit! And yeeeeeees! I've just chickened out and went for the organ on this one, buuuuuut I was indeed veery strongly thinking about this too hehe ;) Synths are AMAZING for improvisation and especially baroque ones! Actually they can also be amazing for learning improvisation for a few reasons; I'll have to make SEVERAL videos with the help of the little blofeld ;D
Yes! It's an important and interesting subject. I have actually quite a bit to say and one thing that has been holding me is that finding a good way to present what I want to convey is difficult! I've been toying with little mathematical formalizations of it all, but it's veery easy to get lost in such things too without much added clarity or expressiveness.. But yes! Absolutely! This and the series of videos on the bach inventions ;)
What analyzer is that? anyone has a link? looks interesting. Any other software vst recomendation to visualize harmony?...Great improvisation as always...Cheers! @Borogrove
Many thanks Matteo! And yes, absolutely! This series was also supposed to get me into posting *regularly*.. HMMMMMM It seems I have failed on this point hahaha ;) But I can fail a thousand times; I'll keep trying, so yes! I fully plan on doing this; In fact I had recorded the whole next video when I noticed I had to throw it away for recording corruption issues :( Many thanks for the comment, and see you soon on a video about the inventions ;)
Hey, i really like your improvisation. Bach style :) i was wondering, I use the exact same digital harpsichord as you, the Roland C-30. And the sound is not like yours. Did you change something ? Keep it up man, you are great 👍🏼
Perhaps I missed it somewhere, and am asking a question that has already been answered, but the information that is shown at the bottom of the video: Did you create those by hand, or are the automatically generated? I would absolutely love to 'steal' this idea for the sake of my improvisations (also, I would love to hear your opinion on some of mine, critiques, thoughts, direction, it would be so greatly appreciated). I do think there are many different ways to convey musical information when it comes to improvisations or in general, like the way you have here, that are so under-touched. Which is a shame! This is insightful and interesting.
Wow, awesome. How did you reach that level? And this understanding of harmony? Also can you explain some of that visualization? Is it something you use to understand harmony better?
Hello! I was just wondering since you seem to live in France why not go try play on a real organ! Especially since France is known for having just amazing organs, and it would be nice if you shared the result!
In this video I use Hauptwerk which is an fantastic vst organ (and other instruments too) due to its wind modeling. The circle visualization is fromMusanim from the amazing S. Malinowski, and the chord view is a max device from Ableton! Hope this helps!
@@Borogrove Thank you! I was expecting that you used Hauptwerk. Im also using it and I think that it is by far the best organ sampler to date! Your record sounds much better than what I can do. Did you use the premium version? Which organ sample did you use for this video?
@@konst1887 I did use the payed version of Hauptwerk (VII) with the St. Anne Mosley samples; a friend a bought it for me :D However I would not expect the other versions to sound actively worse hmmm it's strange. For this one I recorded directly using Hauptwerk's own recording methods (running hauptwerk standalone). Sometimes some sample rate issues can destroy recordings! I also applied some light post processing to the sound, but nothing that substantially changed the sound in any way. Just some stereo widening, dynamic eq and limiters to manage the huge dynamic range. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask them, sound issues are ANNOYING; It took me forever to understand that some impedence issues were destroying the sound recordings for my lil roland c30
@@Borogrove St. Anne? I always hated this sample xD but you can make it sound so beautifully. Did you use some reverb effect? One limitation of the "light version" (which is not even free) restricts me of using reverb and the vst function. The St. Anne I have sounds much more dry.
@@konst1887 Ooooooooooh! That might totally explain it then! Yes i did use convolution reverb and in my experience hauptwerk has pretty great convolution reverb and ir samples. An organ really neeeeeds its reverb for sure so if you have a convolution reverb plugin don't hesitate to use it! I'm sure there are a few free ones as well since it's quite easy to program (just an fft and inverse fft and avx instruction in the middle :D)
Awwwww many thanks! My apology was sadly minimal, and the proper apology would consist in me personally apologizing to everyone and chatting around a hot or cold beverage. I'm doing quite good now! So happy to start regularly be there again ;) Oh! And it won't be much but I'll share a little secret about the roland c30 digital harpsichord as another little apology... It will be our little secret on youtube ;)
Young people in the comments I assume? They like age appropriate representation which is really a shame as they probably really aren't getting as much as they could out of all the learning materials available. Given the pompous nature of their comments, I will rank these improvisers I know: Both Sietze and Balint are far out of the rest of the cast's league. Nicola is very close but he relies much more on predetermined progressions than the top two and has much more to improve. That's all there are worth talking about. Of course, this is just my opinion as you should learn from whomever you think is worthwhile learning from. I personally don't think there is anything of value to learn from me if I were to put myself out there, but I am not doing that because I know I am far from being even considered adequate or worth anyone's time to listen to. At least your King is still worthwhile to listen to.
Please come back Borogrove, we miss you

Content que tu sois de retour ! Et avec un nouveau format qui permet de mieux conceptualiser les codes de l’improvisation, excellent 😊
your really are a craftsman, you reached something that modern musicians can't even gaze

Hi Borogrove. I hope you're doing well! Love your baroque improvisations and still keeping an eye out for more!
