  • How did HBO keep House of the Dragon under budget? With a production budget of two hundred million for its first season, HBO’s House of the Dragon is set to be one of the most expensive TV shows ever.
But it’s still not as expensive as Netflix’s Stranger Things or Amazon’s new Lord of the Rings show, which is expected to cost a staggering four hundred and sixty five million dollars for its first season.
So what made HBO’s production less expensive?
In this video, we’re going to explain the 1) House of the Dragon production costs, 2) How HBO kept costs down, 3) the importance of tracking tasks 4) how you can download and customize a presentation template we created to get started.
If you want to go straight to the presentation explainer, do so now.
It takes a lot of work to make each House of the Dragon episode, and showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik had to manage schedules and track progress with multiple departments, from costume designers to editors to CGI developers.
The first season of House of the Dragon will have ten episodes, each with a budget of twenty million dollars. That’s over twice the budget of the first season of Game of Thrones, which cost nearly one hundred million dollars. Watch until the end to learn more!
