Hercules VS. Hades

  • Hercules storms into the Underworld, subdues Cerberus and confronts Hades, demanding him to return Meg. Hades smugly explains to Hercules that Meg is dead and he can't have her back. Hercules offers his soul in exchange for Meg's and Hades displays a moment of being genre savvy, seeing the deal as almost too good to be true. However, he decides to agree on the condition that Hercules must retrieve her himself. It is not until Hercules has already dived in that he shouts that he'll be dead before he can get to her. The Fates attempt to cut Hercules' life thread, but are unable to. Hercules' genuinely heroic sacrifice causes him to become a god, making him immortal. Hercules emerges from the river, carrying Meg and Hades, astounded, attempts to smooth-talk Hercules again, who angrily punches him, sending Hades into the Styx, where he is swarmed by the souls trapped inside and dragged into its depths.

      Monique Christian the biggest problem with James Woods is he's been typecasted with villainous characters, but I wonder if that's more due to his voice or he's just way too good at playing villainous roles.
      As Hades though, he's just way too funny with his temper, and he's got some good one liners.
      I have seen him play some decent roles, I went back and fourth with him in John Carpenter's Vampires though, cause good guy or not,
      I wasn't always sure what he was gonna do...

      P.T. B. He played Benedict in Recess, and he played as the The Falcon in Stuart Little 2, and as himself in Family Guy, he played Senator Marcus Cohn. The real Marcus Cohn was a fucking villain, worse than Hades depicted by Disney.

      yes and no. To be honest, family relationships didn't really matter to Greek Gods. To Hades, the fact that Hercules is his brothers son is less important than the fact that he's is rivals son. He doesn't think of Zeus as his brother. He hates him. And blood relationships don't matter that much to Greek Gods.
      Greek Gods slept with, married, and had kids with almost every family relationship. Including Grandparents and Grandchildren, and siblings. I think they only didn't sleep with their own children or parents. And Zeus and Hera are siblings, along with Hades, so Hercules (in the movie context since in really myth he had a human mom) is his nephew twice over (although conversely they never say if Hera is their sister of it the gods are all related in this movie world)

See how the souls are 'swimming', not to mention when Hades falls into it and the souls grab him, he goes down - and a sound is made like a drain emptying. So maybe when Hercules first tocuhed it, it was fuller - but then when he went to jump in, it had emptied some.

      AVoiceOfOpinion93 Not true. While there are myths that have gods who rise from the dead, and those gods predate Christ, the parts about resurrection were added to the myth after Christ. And the notion of the Son of God giving his life for sinful Man is unique to Christianity.

    • @deathknightrevan
      @deathknightrevan 10 років тому +7

      Tom Forsythe not really. such cases are quite rare, but in older stories we do see gods making much greater personal sacrifice for the benefit of mankind, Prometheus would be a great example. of course from a christian perspective I suppose prometheus who gave man fire (knowledge) would actually be the progenitor of all sin, I.E. lucifer, since according to that religion (and quite a few other religions) knowledge is the source of man's downfall and eventual doom. while blind obedience gives rewards. nor is jesus much of a martyr really. "oh I have to stay dead for three day then it's eternal paradise! yeah! total bummer!"

    • @tomforsythe7024
      @tomforsythe7024 10 років тому +3

      deathknightrevan It would have helped your case if you could have actually cited an old myth that was on point. Prometheus did not intend to make a sacrifice for Mankind, and he certainly did not pay the penalty for someone else's sin.
      Jesus Christ, whether you believe He is God or not, suffered one of the most painful and humiliating deaths that Man ever devised as a punishment. This was despite the fact that He committed no sin. In scripture, it says "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." That is far worse than just "staying dead for three days."
      The Gospel is unique in the concept that sinful Man cannot make himself acceptable to God, and that God sent His Son to pay the penalty for those sins.

      One thing Hades and I have in common is simple: Raw anger. He gets pissed over little stuff, and that experience of anger lurks in my head, then it comes up at some point, causing me to do something like punch a wall or scream at the top of my lungs or even turn red, overcome with fury.

    Disney's Hercules has some of the best and most unique characters I've seen in an animation movie. Hades, Meg and Philoctetes are masterfully designed characters. Voice acting is on point as well. For me an adaptation doesn't have to stay true to the source material to be good.

      Hades is Lord of the dead after all. The river IS made of dead souls. So he could have just done that to inconvenience Hercules. Or disney made the river convenient for the plot.

      the their he wants jasmine to fall in love with him - which he doesn't get (but shouldn't know that as the genie never told him)

      again convenient to the plot of the story

      *****
      I think it's more like Hercules decided his OWN fate. And when someone takes control of their fate away from whatever decided it before, it kinda screws up any foresight. It's like trying to predict the weather, then suddenly BAM someone invents a weather machine. Good luck predicting rainstorms now.

    • @DenisK21
      @DenisK21 9 років тому +7

      Fate just means how things will end up. Changing it around is, at times, easy;
      When you roll a pair of dice, it'll land however the laws of physics and the like dictate. It's moved by the laws of the universe; in other words by fate.
      But if you LOAD those dice, then you control how they land.
