    Hello Bill. Thanks for another great project. Where would I purchase some 3/16 high heart round U came ( or a similar profile ) I'm coming up empty for where to purchase. The standard width of 5/32 is easy to come by, but for a thicker glass ( 6mm ) I' stuck.

      Hi Kevin,
      Glad you enjoyed the video project. All the lead came I use in these projects are from Cascade Metals. Check out their web page and download their lead came sizes chart. It shows all the different sizes of lead came. I use RU-70 U Came which has a face width of 1/4" and a channel width of 5/32" and the RH-9 which is a high hart came has a face width of 5/32" and a channel width of 3/16". The RH-9 is sometimes hard to find unless you have access to a stain glass supply house. The standard size is RH-8 which has a face width of 5/32" and a channel width of 5/32". Some places to check out for lead came are Amazon, E-Bay, Anything Stained Glass and Delphi Glass. Sometimes they have free shipping. Standard art glass is 3MM which is about 1/8" thick. architectural glass is between 3MM and 5MM thick and you will have to spread the channel open for the thicker glass or grind a angle on the edges of the glass to fit into the channel. Hopefully that gives you enough info to find what you are looking for. Again, thanks for your kind words and please feel free to ask anything about these video projects on my channel.
      Regards,
      Bill Stone

    You mentioned 1/8" brass tubing at the start? Where was that used? Nice project thanks so much!

      Hi Susan,
      Thanks for your comment on the spinner. The brass tubing is used as a bearing surface for the steel piano wire to go through, without the tubing the unit wouldn't turn freely. If you look at around the 22-minute mark you will see me talking about the brass tubing. Thanks for your comment and I hope that helped you out. Please feel free to ask me anything about any of my video projects. So glad you enjoyed the video project!!

      Thanks Bill. I am a glass fuser looking to make something similar, so I was skipping around in the video for parts I believed were stain-glass related!
      This is very helpful & I loved your "five fused glass candy dishes" video (first one I found). Thanks for sharing!

      Hi Susan,
      Thanks for your comment, and nice to hear from you again. Over the years I have made several fused glass spinners, I make the rings up using a base glass of 2mm glass than a layer of 3mm glass on top of the base glass. On the 3mm layer I put the 1/8" brass tubing across the ring that I'm making, then I put another 2mm top layer. Then I fuse all three layers into one to make the ring. I cut the circle Pices in sections and stagger the seams to make it stronger. I fuse the ring at 1475 degrees to make it become one with the brass tubing fused right in the middle of the finished ring. The brass tubing starts to melt at about 1790 degrees, so you don't have to worry about it melting or closing up on you. Then you can run your 3/32" piano wire through the tubing to get the spinner effect. Hopefully that helps you out and you can make some kind of since out of what I said. Make up a small project as a trial run with some junk glass and see if it might work for you. Let me know what you come up with. Have a great day and enjoy the holiday!!
      Regards,
      Bill Stone

      Hi Karen,
      Thanks for your kind words, and your comment. So glad you're enjoying the video projects!! That will make a great gift!!
      You will need a 36"x3/32" music wire and a 36"x1/8" brass tubing made by K&S Precision Metals along with a pkg of 3/32" Dura-Collars, made by DU-BRO. These three items can be purchased at a Hobby Store that carries supplies for radio controller boats, cars and planes. You can also find them on Amazon and other online hobby supply stores. E-Bay also has a lot of these things for sale also. The ball bearing swivel is from Amazon along with the split ring to hang it by. Hopefully that is the info you need to make the project. If you need more info or have any other questions, please feel free to send me a comment and I will get a reply back to you. Best of luck on your project!! Let me know how you make out with it. Have a great day!!
      Regards,
      Bill Stone

      Hi Karen,
      So glad I could help you out with the info on the parts you needed to make this project. It has been fun making these simple projects with my granddaughter. She is a fast learner and did a great job with here first project. Her younger sister made a solar lantern when she was in the 6th grade and did a great job on it also. There is a short video of us together working on the project. She is in college now; boy where does the time go. Best of luck on your project!! Have a great day!!

      Hey Bill what is the inside measurement of the brass tubing?
      I thought I ordered correctly and the piano wire doesn't fit inside the brass tubing

    • @billstonesstainedglasscrea3310
      @billstonesstainedglasscrea3310  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi Karen,
      Sorry to hear your having trouble getting the right wire and tubing. The brass tubing is 1/8" outside diameter and 3/32" inside diameter. The piano wire is 3/32" and fits inside the tubing. Check out the video Bowtie spinner with Attitude at the 7:30 mark and again at the 25:25 to the end of the video and I talk about the tubing and wire. Maybe that will help you get what you need. Hopefully that helps you out!! Best of luck on your project, let me know how you make out!! Have a great day!!

    What sized Brass tubing do you use?

    • @billstonesstainedglasscrea3310
      @billstonesstainedglasscrea3310  3 місяці тому

      Hi,
      Thanks for your comment. The brass tubing is 1/8" OD and 3/32" ID. The music wire is 3/32". The set collars are 3/32" to fit on the wire. Thats the same wire and brass tubing used on all the spinners that are made this way. These supplies are from a hobby store that sells R/C Cars, R/C planes and R/C boats. You can also find them on Amazon and E-Bay. Again, thanks for your comment and please feel free to ask me anything about these projects. Have a great day!!
      Regards,
