“The immigration rule, however, does not apply to icelandic horses, which are 1: super adorables and 2: banished from returning to Iceland should they ever leave. But that is a story for another time” Grey, its time
To summarize, we imported some sheep 130 years ago and they carried a disease that we still have a hard time rooting out in the local sheep population. We’re not taking any chances with the horses
It took 5 years but I genuinely used fennoscandia in conversation! everyone looked at me, then questioned what I was saying, it was googled, I felt superior. thanks Grey!
@@7shinta7 Not really. Norwegian is a modernized version of the old Norse language, Swedish is merely a bad attempt at copying the Norwegian language and Danish is just one big fuckup.
Still wouldn't want to pick a fight with one of them. Well maybe with AT weapons. Or Artillery(I think this is what the Tartars used. I mean how else would they encircle an Armored bear. Given how easily he shreds highly trained troops outfitted with what is probably the best the world has to offer.
Swedes, Danes and Norwegians can understand each other’s language. So very natural to use the term “Scandinavian languages”. That is the most central part missed in this video.
"This is the Holland approach to international relations. If there's a fun name that everyone likes and keeps using wrongly, JUST GO WITH IT!" Hahahaha.
+im_sorry_i_forgot_my_username Wow, that one flew right over my head! Possibly the most subtle joke I've ever heard! I wonder if any Americans will get it ;)
Icelandic horses are not vaccinated against common diseases because they do not exist on Iceland. Many Icelandic horses are semi-feral, living in big herds, so it would not be easy to vaccinate them. For that reason you cannot bring horses to Iceland, to avoid spreading disease. If a horse is taken out of the country it can never return.
@@emmamemma4162 that sounds... Reasonable, and that dissapoints me, i was expecting either some ancient Mad King Shenanigans or a curse made by Fae Folk
@@apaloosa01 Yes. There are no thoroughbreds, warm-bloods, half-bloods, etc, only Icelandic horses on the island, so an Icelandic horse would never qualify for an Olympic equestrian event. There are special competitions for Icelandic horses where they showcase their special gates (Icelandic Horses have five different gates compared to the usual three gates most breeds have). The biggest events are without a doubt the World Championships and Landsmót, each held every other year. Landsmót is a national event in Iceland, where all the best horses are gathered and participate in several competitions and shows. As no horse import to Iceland is allowed, this event consists of horses born in Iceland only. The World Championships, however, are always held outside Iceland. The Icelandic team is always enthusiastic and competitive, but as the horses can never return once they leave the island, sometimes the very best horses in each class might not attend the World Championships as their owners would rather keep them in Iceland.
Geography Now You have some good video too, Geography Now. I recently subscribed to you as well, but haven't had the time to watch all the videos yet. As someone who studied Anthropology in college, I enjoy geography and the causes for borders and cultures :)
Nordic Family There is the strong, Independent mother named Denmark, who is always happy and does her best to help out the family Then their is Father Sweden, a millionaire scientist who (until recently) was always fighting with his wife. They now are quite happy together. Then there is the Older Sister Norway, a beautiful young lady who came from a home full of custody battles with her parents. She now has a profitable oil business, and has worked out her problems with her clingy parents. There is Uncle Finland, Swedens Brother who comes around often. He is a woodsman who has a mild addiction to alcohol, but still cares about his family Then there is Brother Iceland, a crafty kid who is always turning on the heating at the family house, and owns dozens of pets. There is the Little Girl Aland, who has been dragged into a lot of chaos between Sweden and Finland. After Aland was adopted by Sweden, Finland took her during some disputes with their neighbor, Russia. Today Aland refers to both of them as 'Father' Across the Street is Estonia, a Girl who keeps swearing that she did a DNA test and is related to the Nordics. They keep ignoring her, and Esti is stuck having to panic every time Russia goes out on his lawn. Faroe is Denmarks son, who has always loved her mother. They both go to the movies and dinner together. Faroe does have a bit of an obsession with Birds though. Then there is the rebellious Child of Greenland. He deals with extreme anxiety and Depression, at some points even becoming suicidal at some points. He hates his mother Denmark due to an argument from awhile ago, and has moved out into a ghetto down town. He constantly try's to show everyone he is not part of the family. Lastly, their is Scotland. He filing for divorce from his Wife England, and keeps asking to move back in with the family while he finds his true purpose. This is the Nordic Family. Not Perfect, but still getting by.
I think somebody should mention that Finland is the only Nordic country that does not have a language that is in the Germanic family or descended from Old Norse. Their language is related to Estonian and Hungarian, which are both nothing like Swedish, Danish, or Norwegian (I can't speak for Icelandic or Faroese as I have no experience with either languages).
As a Norwegian i was always taught that Norway, Sweden and Denmark is Scandinavia and The Nordic countries is Scandinavia plus Finland, Iceland, greenland, and the Faroe islands.
@@srensen3081 Greenland and Faroe Islands are not considered Scandinavian (at least not in Denmark). They are Nordic countries like Finland.... The English word "Scandinavia" can technically mean Nordic, Scandinavia or some combinations here of, which irritates us locals a little :)
@@srensen3081 Danish most likely, could be Norwegian, not sure why it matters. Scandinavia was (unlike Nordic) defined by similar languages, shared culture and history. Greenland, and Faroe Islands is a part of The kingdom of Denmark - not Denmark proper. While they do share history, they don't share much of the rest. This is the reason why Greenland and Faroe Islands are not normally considered Scandinavia unlike Norway, Sweden and Denmark proper.

Upon looking up Finland's baby boxes I got a teeny bit choked up because that's the cutest, nicest darn thing ever. Free baby clothes and a coat, and all this stuff to encourage babies to sleep on their own and mothers to get medical attention? That's such an awesome idea!
I met someone from Finland and mentioned the term Fennoscandia and he was like "How do you know that?" He was so shocked. He even told me that some people in Finland don't know about this term. What would I do without the internet where I wouldn't know useless information like this?
"FJORDS, ARCTIC, FJORDS, ARCTIC, FJORDS AND MORE FJORDS AND MORE ARCTIC" Meanwhile in Denmark: "FLAT, RAIN, NO SNOW IN WINTER, FLAT WITH MORE RAIN, ALSO 6 DAYS WORTH OF SNOW A YEAR, FLAT!"

i like how many people think that Scandinavian people hate each other?.. No we just making jokes. like Sweden is only coming to Denmark to get our alcohol and to get in Legoland
+Chrissoy Norway and Sweden get along fine, but norweigans make fun of swedes alot; speech, politics, being poor etc. Denmark and Sweden get along fine, but swedes make fun of Denmark alot; speech, politics, location, size etc. Finland and Sweden doesn't get along fine as there are lots of jealousy towards swedes and inferiority complex and Sweden has bullied Finland over a long period of time, this shows most easily if you as a swede visit Finland and end up with the wrong crowd you will get beaten just for being swedish, maybe even stabbed with a knife.
***** Ok, not stabbed, but grazed. "Inte sära, bara rispa". u know? Had a friend who i 5th grade visited Finland, got punched by a group or other teenagers just for being swedish lol. Maybe that has changed since the early 90's though.

2:15 // That's kind of what we do as graphic designers. It's about ensuring brand consistency. On another note, Denmark is also a part of Scandinavia because of our linguistical ties. Danish, Norwegian and Swedish are, largely, mutually intelligible.

Skyrim let the empire through its gates though, which was rather limb wristed of them. The Romans never got to Scandinavia, nor did the English. In fact now that I think about it, the only faction to ever take Scandinavia, not counting dragons, was Nazi Germany and they only held it 5 years.
2:16 regarding the "respect distance", it is a super common set of rules for how a mark should be places, and used. As an example, you would want an important logo like the biohazard symbol to be easily seen, especially when among less important symbols on ie. a bottle of chemicals. Or making sure an important document from can be easily recognized in a stack of others. Designers make "(design) manuals" for designers and non-designers alike to follow, usually containing minimum sizes, distance from other marks as to not blend in and what color the mark should be on different materials and prints as to make it easy to see. That way a new designer can become familier with how to place the marks in new designs or someone with no design experience can still make sure a mark is placed in a visible way.
Fun fact: Greenland is located in the continent of North America, not Europe, and the shortest distance between this island and Canada is only 16 miles (26 km), making The Kingdom of Denmark geographically closer to Canada than it is to Norway!
SpartaSpartan117 _"Fun Fact: your fun fact about Greenland's location was both mentioned in the video and is blatantly obvious to anyone who has ever seen a map"_ Really? That's so odd, because I could have sworn he only said that Greenland is located in a different _hemisphere_ and didn't say anything about it being part of North America, nor it's distance to Canada. Of course, since you've made it ridiculously easy for me to make you look like a complete idiot in case you aren't able to actually tell me where these two pieces of information are mentioned in the video, could you please do so?
Finland wasnt a monarchy because it was a part of sweden. So it technically was until it splity. Just as if the saamis would split from sweden, Arent they scandinavian then?

hi I'm actually from Åland and would like to inform you that the Å is pronounced like a long O or OA in for example "oar", "sword", "floor", "gourd" - we pronounce the letter o more like an "ooh" sound as the sound in "pool", "boot" or "tool" (if you pronounce it in a slight irish accent) which is why we have a separate letter for the other "o" sound (unlike english) so it is not "Aland" sounding like "Allan", it is Åland sounding like "ooar"-land (makes sense you might need oars when you live on an island) otherwise great video :)
Nordic countries are amazing. I've read a lot of their history and I would say that they have the best countries to live in whether it is about history, culture, peace & order, standard of living and of course the nature!
Weather could be better in Winter, but Summer can be excellent. Be careful though as they are quite democratic socialist ..... and that is so misunderstood....
@Viktor Birkeland Venezuela is the preferred example it seems. This of course is not a proper socialist country but a totalitarian regime. The model which is ignored is the one adopted by the most successful Nordic nations. Those are the nations which have had the best education for decades now and the least imbalance in society and wealth. Seemingly these nations also are among the happiest too.
The Holland thing, I was like "oh how interesting. People don't do that for my country!". And then I realized I live in the USA, which was literally just called America to demonstrate further. I normally call it America too, although I think calling ourselves 'americans' contributes to the problem since there isn't really a better alternative. I mean what are you going to call us? United Statians of America? Actually I just looked that up, people do rarely (and correctly) call citizens of the USA 'United Statians' or singularly, a 'United Statian'. American really defines anyone in from the west really, and even North American still doesn't specify the USA, including Mexico and Canada. When you think about it that's not a lot of countries, but they are all REALLY BIG countries so... EDIT: I just realized how American (USA) this comment is. It's very American of me to make a comment about America (USA) on a video NOT about America at all. Lmao, us self-centered Americans (really United Statians).
We usually just call it Norden where im from(Northen sweden)(Roughly translates to The North) It includes Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland.
I think that it was actually a reference to that fact that Norway provides a lot of incentives for electric cars, resulting in a lot of Teslas on the road.
It is actually encouraged to buy electric cars here in Norway. Therefore, when the Tesla was announced so many people preordered it that one had to wait up to 3 months before getting one. And all of a sudden we had like 50000 Teslas on the roads and they could be seen everywhere. :P
Justin Wong specifically in cities. no love anywhere else than specific cities. closest parking space that can charge an electric car from where I live is a good few hours drive to Sweden.
***** 1) The Tesla Model S costs between $70,000-$130,000. It is arguably the best (and most expensive) electric car available. 2) It's a luxury car; it's not for the masses. 3) Yes, they are allowed to be driven on roads, like any other car. They can be driven in Canada. 4) Tesla Motors doesn't sell hybrids, only pure electric cars. 5) In 3-5 years, Tesla Motors will release a cheaper electric car, the Model 3. Tesla CEO Elon Musk says the Model 3 will start at $35,000. It's price will probably range from $35,000-$50,000. 6) If you're seriously considering an electric car, make sure you research the pros and cons. EV's (electric vehicles) typically have a short range of 100 miles (Tesla is the exception with a range of 200-300 miles). If all you do is city driving, the short range isn't a problem, since you can charge at home every night. EV's have the advantage of lower fueling costs (electricity is cheaper than gasoline). They also have a quieter, smoother ride.
Justin Wong This is an informative, unbiased breakdown of the current state of EVs and Tesla, with the exception of the 'smoother ride' comment (this is primarily dependent on the suspension, not the engine). That's pretty rare.
Tessa And Svalbard is, indeed, famous for only two things, apart from being in the middle of nowhere: polar bears (can't cay about armoured.. :D) and that "apocalypse seed bank". So he pretty much just found a cool way of mentioning both in one sentence :)

One of the funniest things is when you talk in your native languages Swedish Norwegian and Danish with English speakers around. It often leads to people thinking we are all speaking Danish. An interesting tidbit of all of this is that food is allowed to be written in each others languages as long as its easy to understand. At least in Sweden. So you might find sauce with a Norwegian ingredients list.

Norwegians are just stoked whenever we’re mentioned online by anyone who isn’t Norwegian. Sweden and Denmark generally get most of the attention, I feel 😅
Legit I live in Australia nowadays and there are a surprising amount of people that don't even know that Norway exists and instead of calling someone Norwegian they think it's Norwayan 😂
It is unfortunately mostly in Norway. Denmark and Sweden don't have a lot of them. They're becoming more common but they're still rare. I was on vacation in billund and there's a lot of tourists because of Legoland. Almost every Tesla there was Norwegian

3:08 you displayed the danish viking there, when it was in fact a norwegian viking who found greenland (Leif Erikson) . Denmark got it because they took over Norway, and when Norway got independence, they never gave Greenland back. This is the same story with the Faroe Islands
@Sage yeah, also. The swedish vikings didn't get anything they kept later lol. They did expand into russia and even raided constantinople. But they didn't keep it.
That's not why Denmark took possession of the Norwegian overseas colonies; Denmark-Norway was allied with Napoleon during the Napoleonic wars, Sweden was allied with Britain. When Napoleon lost, part of the Treaties of Paris declared that Sweden were to enter a union with Norway, they neglected the overseas territories so they fell to Denmark. Besides the Norwegian colonies on Greenland were abandoned during the medieval cooling period in the 13th-16th century, nearly 200 years before Hans Egede (a Norwegian btw) sailed under the Danish king to Greenland to convert the catholic Norwegians, found no Norwegians so converted the pagan Greenlanders instead. The Faroe islands has had more Danish influence than Norwegian in the past 600-700 years, that's why a lot of them speak near perfect Danish.
Fun fact, the Scandinavian countries actually were implementing a common currency early on and that's why all the Scandinavian countries have "kroner" as a currency, though these days as regional variants. It was dissolved when WW1 broke out and was called the Scandinavian Monetary Union, seen by many as sort of the cradling of a more formal union as Scandinavian unification (at least informally because it's unlikely newly freed Norway would have supported it and Sweden and Denmark was still cooly in relations) as a political issue was the most blooming in those very romanticist years around the turn of the 1800s but alas never became a thing. It's legacy lives on in every country who were part of it whose currencies are still called "crowns" or kroner, none of which went back to their "rigsdalers", which I think was based on the German reichsthaler and I guess can be loosely translated to "realms dollar". Later on though the EU would adopt the same concept with Euros, but this, hilariously enough, is a very unpopular thing in EU Scandinavia despite the concept being adopted there with LMU (Latin Monetary Union) being the main inspiration for it and whose countries all adopted the Euro. Unlike post LMU countries, both EU Scandinavian countries, Denmark and Sweden, still use their own "kroner" or crowns and resist adopting the Euro very strongly.

Finland is now related to the baltics? Never! And if you justify the argument with historical reasons ('cause mother Russia) then remember CGP Grey, Finland was part of Sweden almost 700 years and only 100 years part of Russia. So if you want to argue which country Finland is more related to, Sweden/scandinavia would be a correct answer.
Finland is located on the Baltic Sea, and it has plenty of linguistic and cultural links to Estonia, so I don't think it's wrong to call it Baltic. What I would wonder instead is why the hell Latvia and Lithuania are called Baltic...
Robert Faber Many other countries are also located on the Baltic Sea, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Germany... Latvia and Lithuania are the "true" Balts, Estonians are Finno-Ugric like Finns and Hungarians, somewhat surprisingly. Finland is not really related to Scandinavia either though. Our origins and languages are very different.
Robert Faber What are you talking about? It IS wrong to call Finland Baltic. Poland, Sweden and Germany are also located on the Baltic sea, are they Baltic? No. Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia are the only Baltic countries, its about the culture, not having an access to Baltic sea. Having cultural links also doesnt make Finland Baltic. Poland has cultural links to Germany, that doesnt make Poland a germanic country and the other way around, Germany is not Slavic.
Robert Faber The early Lithuainian and Latvian tribes were called baltics or balts idk, but Lithuainia and Latvia are the first ones to calaim the name, Estoniains and Fins were finuguards? mby, and Sweeden with Norway were viking settlements. Correct me if im wrong grammaticaly
Robert Faber Cultural links sure, many loan words, true again, but Finland is a Finno-Ugric language member, and the Baltic states are Indo-Germanic, so there's no direct linguistic connection.

And before alot of people immigrated to Sweden and helped build our workforce, so was we. Yes, we did have alot of natural resources in "the old days", but at the begining of the 1900ds we where considered poor :P
Johny Ludvigsson Most of the Islamic invasion "workforce" was from past 50 years. No, they didn't help make Sweden "rich". And please don't call immigrants "workforce", you're discriminating against the natives as if they're lazy or something. By what logic do immigrants make a country rich? If there was any merit to that big fat stinky lie, than the best way to make everyone rich would be to just make all countries' entire populations switch places. Does that make it clearer to you that immigration does NOT make a country rich?
I NEVER stated immigration in itself helps make a country rich. I NEVER stated I was thinkin about "the islamic invasiomn" What I had in mind was MOSTLY and in GENERAL the jugoslavians (well, former jugoslavia now days) that helped build the WORKFORCE of sweden in the 50's, 60's and 70's, at a time when the industries of our fair country were screaming for workers. Without those immigrants, the factories (in general) wouldnt be able to function, thus not contribute to the national economy thus not helping to make sweden a "rich" county. Please note that I'm not stating immigration and/or imigrants ALONE built the wealth, however, it did help alot to have as open borders as we did. Also, my original comment was sort of just an add-note to Inkshooters comment about Norways recent wealth. Somehow you managed to interpret that as me talking about what you call "the Islamic Invasion" and me discriminating about native swedes, wich would be really odd of me since both my parents and three of my siblings, me and my sister beeing adopted, are what contistutes as "Native Swedes", so I would de facto call them lazy, wich they aren't. Judging by your comment and the logic in it, I can only asume that your thinking of the immigration from the late 80's up intil now, wich mostly, but not excluding, consists of people from countries where Islam is the norm as a religion. considering how that movement has changed sweden and it's wealth, I have no opinion, I thik it's too early to say, since it's a movement that still is in motion. As a final note, I'd like to apologize for my miss-spelling and/or incorrect use of grammar, seeing as english is my second language, I sometimes mess up.
+19billdong96 It's a reference to an amazing series of books, ''His Dark Materials'', in which Svalbard is occupied and guarded by huge, armoured, armour-smithing bears.

Rauta Arska not historically, Finland was always a Baltic country and not in the Nordic culture, it derives from the Uralic race, culturally and linguistically related to the other Baltics.
oliskranz You're extremely wrong. FInland shares historically A LOT with the other nordic countries especially Sweden, we were after all the same country for over 700 years how can you say we do not then share the same history and culture? What does it matter that the language is finno-ugric it doesn't cancel out the fact that we've a lot more in common with the scandinavian countries than baltic. Actually the only thing that Finland shares with the Baltics is that it has a linguistic cousin there, Estonia. The two other countries do not even have a language that is from the same linguistic family. Also to say that something derives from a "uralic race" is ridicilous, Finland, like many other places in Europe and the world has had so much immigration that to say the people originate from a specific area is stupid and wrong.
MrOtto yes, you're a Baltic country that got influence from Scandinavia, just like Estonia, Sedan also used to own Estonia, in fact why don't all the Baltic countries become Nordic?, Denmark also used to own England and Scandinavian influence had a profound affect on the language and culture, so by your standard England should be Nordic too. No, things don't work that way, Finland truly is Baltic and not Nordic, and linguistics isn't the only thing you share with Estonia and the Baltics, they come from the same people and culture, which was not Nordic, Nordics were a closed off group that had no interaction with the Baltics besides Nordic Vikings raiding them.
No we really aren't Baltic, please go read the book "When Finland was Sweden" by Herman Lindqvist would be a great one for you so you wouldn't live in lies. Finland's relationship to Sweden isn't only "influences" there has been immigration between the two countries for millenniums for example a lot of Finland's west coast is populated by finnishswedes who speak Swedish as their mother tongue and i can assure you, as i am one of them I feel way more Nordic than Baltic and have way more ties with the Nordic countries than the Baltic. The reason why the Baltics aren't Nordic are mainly because they don't have any historical connection or cultural connection to the Nordic countries, yes Sweden and Denmark have ruled over parts of Estonia and Latvia for a couple of hundred years if even that but that is it, it doesn't mean they're Nordic because they've had an overlord that is Nordic. With that logic Finland should be "Russian" because it was a part of the Russian Empire. That you even mentioned that Denmark has owned England is pathetic because after I searched that up I found out that England (parts of it) and Denmark was united for 30 years in the 11th century. That is extremely far-fetched. That Germanic(not Scandinavian) culture and language hasn't affected England isn't something I deny, would be weird if I did because English is a Germanic language (derp). Finland truly isn't Baltic, please link me any academically legit source that would say so, and yes language is the only thing it shares with ESTONIA, THE OTHER TWO BALTIC COUNTRIES HAVE INDO-EUROPEAN LANGUAGES SO NOT EVEN THAT IS COMMON WITH FINLAND AND THEM so please stop spreading lies, learn and accept that you were wrong. Also I already commented about that "race" and "same people" thing, it is ridiculous.
Brandon Spears Militarily. Pretty weak. Sweden has some weaponry though and we have some hard to invade terrain. We are strong in the science research and envoirenment department. Strong in welfare and social equality and also in non-corrupt politics. And considering the size of the countries we have a quite strong economy (especially Norway).
Unless you live in Europe, it's only a 2.5 on the Stupidometer. When you have a small group of fairly underpopulated countries with similar cultures in close proximity that are often grouped together for business purposes anyway, this is a pretty easy mistake to make. Besides, not too long ago (the late 1800's), the Kingdom of Denmark included Denmark itself, parts of modern Germany, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, and a bunch of nearby islands, so they basically controlled most of the region anyway.
So when you say "that's a story for another time" about the Icelandic horses, does that mean we can look forward to an adorable video about adorable horses on this channel sometime in the future? Also, upvoted for mention of panserbjørn. All hail Iorek Byrnison!
Well, Norway colonised Iceland, the Faroe Islands (stopping in the British Isles to pick up some Celtic/Gaelic wives; check DNA if you don't believe me), Greenland, Shetland, and Orkney. Later, the Kingdom of Norway merged through inheritance with the Kingdom of Denmark though the islands were still nominally Norwegian. Then Shetland and Orkney were pawned to Scotland as part of a wedding dowry though the Kingdom of Denmark-Norway was never allowed to pay the pawn and Scotland and later the UK kept the islands. Then Napoleon came along, Denmark-Norway fought on the losing side, and the victors gave Norway to Sweden but Denmark kept the island territories. Then in 1918, Iceland became an independent kingdom in personal union with Denmark, and in 1944 she voted to become a republic. In 1948, the Faroe Islands got Home Rule. In 1979, Greenland also got Home Rule and also some extra powers in 2005 (details of which I don't know). That's it in a nutshell.
“The immigration rule, however, does not apply to icelandic horses, which are 1: super adorables and 2: banished from returning to Iceland should they ever leave. But that is a story for another time”

@@emmamemma4162 Does it apply for domesticated horses? Like if there's a horse-riding competition in another country (like the olympics?)

Nordic Family
There is the strong, Independent mother named Denmark, who is always happy and does her best to help out the family
Then their is Father Sweden, a millionaire scientist who (until recently) was always fighting with his wife.
He is a woodsman who has a mild addiction to alcohol, but still cares about his family
Then there is Brother Iceland, a crafty kid who is always turning on the heating at the family house, and owns dozens of pets.
There is the Little Girl Aland, who has been dragged into a lot of chaos between Sweden and Finland. After Aland was adopted by Sweden, Finland took her during some disputes with their neighbor, Russia. Today Aland refers to both of them as 'Father'
Across the Street is Estonia, a Girl who keeps swearing that she did a DNA test and is related to the Nordics.

1) The Tesla Model S costs between $70,000-$130,000.
That's pretty rare.

yes, and while sweden gave finland only a religion and couple castles, russia gave finland huge improvements in the national scale, political and economical. despite that, finnish really like more of their wastern neighbours than eastern ones.
The Russians also invaded twice after independence and made Finland's political situation very difficult throughout the cold war.
+namethatisnottakenyo True, and without those invasions, Finland's industry would not be the same as its today. Also, during cold war Finland was one of the very few countries Soviets traded with so it meant huge exports and boosts for Finlands economy. Yes, they were tough times but Finlad had it easy compared to other european countries. No total rebuild of infastructure and such... 3:08 you displayed the danish viking there, when it was in fact a norwegian viking who found greenland (Leif Erikson) . Denmark got it because they took over Norway, and when Norway got independence, they never gave Greenland back. This is the same story with the Faroe Islands
@Sage he found greenland in the 900's and Norway was conquered a few hundred years later actually. But i could see why
Erik the red discovered Greenland, Leiv Eriksons father.
And despite that, Danish is still being taught in the schools of Greenland (no joke)

Robert Faber
Cultural links sure, many loan words, true again, but Finland is a Finno-Ugric language member, and the Baltic states are Indo-Germanic, so there's no direct linguistic connection.

Norway's wealth is actually a very recent phenomenon. Before oil was discovered in the North Sea, Norway was a very poor country, relatively speaking.
I NEVER stated I was thinkin about "the islamic invasiomn"
What I had in mind was MOSTLY and in GENERAL the jugoslavians (well, former jugoslavia now days) that helped build the WORKFORCE of sweden in the 50's, 60's and 70's, at a time when the industries of our fair country were screaming for workers.

3:03 Finland isn't historically or linguistically related to Nords either.
oliskranz Linguistically no, historically very much.
I love your videos. They are to the point (well-written) and not that long. I get the information I need and you are not wasting my time. Thanks, man!

Besides, not too long ago (the late 1800's), the Kingdom of Denmark included Denmark itself, parts of modern Germany, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, and a bunch of nearby islands, so they basically controlled most of the region anyway.

3:10 yes, a kind of, Norway owned the Faroe Islands and Greenland, but after Norway was under the Danish king, the islands was given to Denmark.
AgDu DuAg and Iceland
