I have the same bike including color. At my age after owning about 30 motorcycles and 30 cars you look back on favorite vehicles that you wish you still had (I miss my ‘90, 5.0 liter Mustang). My Ninja is the one that I realized is an all time favorite while I still have it. The best part about riding any other motorcycle in the last 11 years has been when I get back on my ZX9R. Every ride as good as the first. Takes me back to when I was just a young fellow of 50. My riding style would be low moderate to sissy by many standards but I have had the front wheel off the tarmac at +100 mph. It is just uncivilized enough to have a real personality, civilized enough to bond with.
Agreed. Just bought mine at 53. Fancied a classic sports bike. 2003 in green 27k £3000. Spent £300 on getting it as near to factory. Valves shimmed, chain and sprockets. Carbs rebuilt. Been across Europe on it. It's a bit of an animal if you let it get on your dark side.
‘99 model was the first mass produced consumer vehicle on the planet to do the 1/4 mile under 10 seconds, completely stock right off the showroom floor including stock tires and gearing. It may seem a bit of a shame the model ended in 2003 but I think it is better that they didn’t turn the bike into something that it really wasn’t: carburetors and no electronic wizardry, true to form and Never 2nd lined or held on as a sport tour.
I have '99 C2 model ZX9R in blue bought used in 2001 with 4200 miles. I have over 68000 miles now. Micron carbon fiber slip-on rivetless design, EBC SRC clutch with stiffer springs, K&N air filter, lighter EK 525 MVXZ2 blue chain with Driven anodized aluminum sprocket and drilled countershaft sprocket, Michelin Power RS tires. Stock brakes setup with Goodridge steel braided lines and Ferodo brake pads (sintered in front, organic in rear). Brakes work good in conjunction with Michelin tires. No problems mechanical wise, just usual wear in tires, brake pads, and drive chain. I run Castrol Power 1 full synthetic oil, for smooth shifting, cooler running, smooth running engine. I have run Elf and Motul oils in the past, also very good oils. I run Denso Iridium spark plugs for performance and longevity. I live in California, USA.
You have a motorcycle longer than I do,i thought i was stuck with zx9 for almost 14 years,and you are an example that there are others, I'm joking,generally the zx9r is a very good package for most drivers. I don't know the quality of asphalt in California, but in the part of Croatia where I live, the asphalt is quite slippery,and for any more serious dynamic driving, only these tires come into play Pirelli supercorsa SC 0,1,2 or Dunlop D212/213 So far 103000 km in the engine in 90% I use the semi-synthetic oil Shell VSX15W-50 (controls at 88,000 km of camshafts were without traces of wear , at a service interval of 6000 km, the engine consumes not 1 dl of oil ) Greeting from cold winter Croatia
baczx9r Roads vary in Southern California. They can be smooth to rough, bumby with potholes to rain grooves on the freeway. I live in the valley where it gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter with a rainy season. I have run Metzeler Rennsport carbon black tires in the past, RS1 and RS2 compounds. This is the predecessor to the Racetec tires with silica and interact compound. Dunlop D207 was the original tire on my bike. Michelin outlasts Dunlop, Bridgestone, and Pirelli on the street. The Power RS is based on the Michelin slick used in Moto GP. A big improvement over my previous Power 3. They roll easier and have stiffer sidewalls. Quicker transitions, acceleration and braking. Makes my bike feel like an R1, which I have test ridden. Shell motorcycle oil not available in the USA, unless you count BMW Advantec oil from BMW Motorrad, the first synthetic oil made from natural gas, made by Shell. Only available in 5W40 full synthetic and 15W40 semi-synthetic.
@@baczx9r pozz kupio sam prosle godine zx9r sa izloga jedne firme vlasnik je stariji čovjek umro od korone, njegov sin mi je prodao motor u suzama rekao je da je ocu bio omiljeni motor i zato ga je držao u izlogu svoje firme ima samo 2500km predjenih ,imam još 4 motora i nijedan nije sa karburatorom ,očistio sam karburator stavio nove orginal dihtunge na čašicama jer je benzin curio van na njima ,i sinkronizirao ga ,ako moze pomoć čuo sam da se ventili štelaju neznam na koliko km i na šta još moram obratiti pažnju želim ovaj motor ostaviti za sebe i voziti dok budem moga ,nemam toliko iskustva sa motorima ali volim ih imati u garaži eto ako može par savjeta koje ulje je naj bolje svijećice gume itd pozz Mario iz Svicarske

Truth,it depends on the man, the driver who drives,every driver's desire is to go as fast as possible, with less stress, risk, and when we sit on the zx9r, it does the opposite, more stress and risk in driving if you want to go fast. Today in 2019/2020 we can only be equal with the latest motorcycle is by choice of same tires, and those are pirelli supercorsa sc1/2 or dunlop D213 pro 0/1/2/3
Nice bike I’ve got the c2 55000 miles before gear box is broken so I’ve swapped for e1 engine almost finished I see you have have same brake lever as me I had to move starter switch as well awesome braking
@@TOMOFONO ..that motorcycle was made in 2003, before globalism, translated it is a quality product that is intended to last a long time, the last series of each model is the best (F2 2002/2003), on my example you can see 106000 km, regularly serviced every 6000 km, used Shell VSX15W oil -50 semi-synthetics. At 58,000 km changed the timing chain, at 85,000 km changed nozzles on the carburetors (constant gas restless) If I hadn't put the Chinese garbage from the footrest (crash), I would have continued to ride that motorcycle. The ZX9R 2003 model is still a good motorcycle today (of course it can't handle newer sports bikes), just put good tires (supercorsa - dunlop D213) if you want to ride faster,if you ride more lightly, ZX9R will be even better👍👍

If you think about changing the chain from the engine.Parts- chain, chain tensioner, sealing they cost 200 euros.The price of a mechanic who changed it 150 euros
@@karvanenpalli8508 I've done 84,000 miles on my old 02 ZX9R those cam chains don't need touched at 60,000km but you do need to do valve checks every 4000 miles and usually shim changes at 8000, the cam tensioners do stick/seize so if the bike is making lots of chain noise replace the tensioner and follow the manual to do it as incorrect reassembly procedure makes them seize.
So you bought it new in 2006, which means the original owner purchased it new in probably 2003 ( last year of production for the F model) and he never put a single mile on it ??
It doesn't even have a low fuel indicator? How can you ride it without knowing your fuel level? You just have to reset your trip meter every time you fuel up a then watch it? What if you forget? I just don't get it.
@Tomas Janik...You think wrong, on the fuel tank you have a leak valve with three positions, - on - off - res - ,you always leave it in the position - on - when the fuel reaches the level when it is more in the - on position - the fuel no longer reaches the engine, the engine starts to rattle, then you know that you need to switch to the reserve ( 4/5 liters fuel ) a simple and proven way to check the amount of fuel you have in the tank, and I've never run out of it.
@@baczx9r I know about the valve from older smaller bikes. However, it is sooo stupid to only have this system on such a big bike that is capable of 300km/h speed. Even older models of ZX9R had real fuel gauge. It just makes no sense to me.

Pozz kupio sam prošle godine zx9r 2001g sa samo 2500km , nemam puno iskusva sa motorima pa me interesuje šta moram raditi na ovom motoru čitao sam da se ventili moraju štelati ako se ne varam svakih 4000km ,koje ulje je naj bolje za ovaj motor ,iskreno svidja mi se ovaj motor volim starije mašine,motor nije vožen 14 godina bio je na izlogu firme jednoga vlasnika ,nakon njegove smrti od Corone njegov sin mi je prodao motor kupio sam ga prošle godine i planiram ga voziti dok budem sposoban za vožnju,pa bih volio znati na što sve moram pripaziti i koje je ulje naj bolje za ovaj motor svijećice gume itd ,nisam neki vrsni vozač ali volim se provozati sa vremena na vrijeme ,eto ako možete da mi pomognete kako je naj bolje održavati motor ,možda se nekada i vidimo živim u Svicarskoj planiram taj motor u Hrvatsku dovesti kući svojoj i ostaviti ga dole pa kada sam u Hr da se mogu provozati pozz Mario.
@mariozeba007 .... pozz. ako je istina o kilometraži devetke , to je novi motor ( možda zbog stajanja neki semerinzi budu loši ) mene je moj služio sve do pada tj. 106 000 km , servis svakih 6000 km koristio polusintetiku ulje Shell Advance VSX 4T 15W-50 (nikakva skupa Motul ili Silkolene ulja ), na 85 000 bregaste ko nove, ventili podešavani svakih 12 000 km , i svjećice NGK CR9EK svakih 12000 km. Moje razmišljanje o gumama je ovakvo, uvijek imati gumu koja ima/daje najbolji grip, bez obzira na vozačku razinu, bila ona amaterska ili profesionalna Ta vrsta motora je "old school" prevedeno ,kvalitetna / trajna tehnologija izrade i po meni nemaš potrebe voditi velike brige o održavanju te devetke, samo vozi i to je to........ 🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍👍👍👍👍
Kilometri su svarni samo jedan servis uradit u Kawasaki garaži upisan u servisnu ,Gume su skoro novoga profila ali su jako stare 2008 godina Michelin pilot ,dihtunge sam kupio orginalne na čašicama karburatora i zamjenuo upalio sam ga kratko dvije minute nisam htjeo da radi dugo sa starim uljem ,dali moram filter benzina zamjenuti i kada se mjenja na koliko km , kakav je za vozit sa obzirom da nisam bas neki dobar vozač čitao sam puno i nisam vidio loš komentar i drago mi je zbog toga ,trenutno vozim Suzuki bandit 650 2012 godinu nisam zadovoljan ,kada sam sjeo na zx9r pomislio sam ovaj je udoban motor mislim da je puno udobniji od Bandita

@@mariol1436 .... iskreno Motul 300V 10W-40 je trkaće ulje za najnovije generacije motora, za 9 tku to je "predobro ulje" nepotrebno je stavljati u motor, meni je ovlašteni servis sipao polusintetiku shell vsx15w-50 nikakvih problema , na 85 tisuća na bregastim nikakvih tragova potrošenosti. Osobno nikada nisam vozio taj model guma,koliko sam čitao , svi je hvale zbog dobrog gripa ,ali i kude zbog brze potrošnje, ja kad sam kupio novu 9 na njima je bila prva ugradnja ,kamenjarka guma michelin pilot sport, što je meni bilo ok, pošto sam bio početnik, no s vremenom kada sam podignuo razinu vožnje, završio sam samo i jedino na pirelli supercorsi ili dunlopu d213 Koliko vidim po spec. na tvoj model ide 180/55, ako je felga široka 5,5 cola onda ide 180 /55 i možeš staviti 180/60 , ja sam na svoju 6 cola stavljao sve od orginal 190/50 - 190/55 - 180/60 - 200 /55 www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/kawasaki/kawasaki_zx9r%2000.htm

I'm going to buy -02 zx9r 58000km. So 60000km is going to be BIG repair for the engine? How mutch did it cost for you?

I bought -01 zx9r 35000km. And made valve check and carboretor sync. Valves was ok. Paid 3100 euros and got oil chainge and new front tire.

Yes, it is harmful, white smoke is a bad sign, visit the service, driving further you will do even more damage to the engine

@@baczx9rSta mislis o Motul 300V 10w40? Kupio sam ZX9R 2000 godiste prosli mesec pa treba da mu menjam ulje i gume tako da me isto zanima tvoje mislenje o bridgestone s22 i dali je zadnja guma 190 ili 180 tvornicki ? Jer na netu negde kazu 180 negde 190. Pozz iz 🇲🇰
@@mariol1436 .... iskreno Motul 300V 10W-40 je trkaće ulje za najnovije generacije motora, za 9 tku to je "predobro ulje" nepotrebno je stavljati u motor, meni je ovlašteni servis sipao polusintetiku shell vsx15w-50 nikakvih problema , na 85 tisuća na bregastim nikakvih tragova potrošenosti.
Osobno nikada nisam vozio taj model guma,koliko sam čitao , svi je hvale zbog dobrog gripa ,ali i kude zbog brze potrošnje, ja kad sam kupio novu 9 na njima je bila prva ugradnja ,kamenjarka guma michelin pilot sport, što je meni bilo ok, pošto sam bio početnik, no s vremenom kada sam podignuo razinu vožnje, završio sam samo i jedino na pirelli supercorsi ili dunlopu d213
Koliko vidim po spec. na tvoj model ide 180/55, ako je felga široka 5,5 cola onda ide 180 /55 i možeš staviti 180/60 , ja sam na svoju 6 cola stavljao sve od orginal 190/50 - 190/55 - 180/60 - 200 /55
