I'm always amazed at the number of people who have been riding bikes for 20+ years and still have no idea how to actually maneuver their bikes properly. Listen folks, anyone can ride a bike in a straight line at speed, the bike (and science) does all the work for you. Maneuvering your bike at slower speeds, weaving around things, doing u-turns etc isn't easy and takes practice. If you can't take any of Jerry's courses in person, watch the videos, get some cones (or beer cans, whatever) and set them up and practice practice practice.

Meg came to the course with no predetermined mindset, which allowed her to absorb what was being taught. Most experienced riders come "knowing" they know how to ride. Ego is a guys worst enemy. I've been riding 36 years and found some things are hard to reprogram in my riding style lol.

Awesome inspiration for small women who want to ride but who may feel intimidated. This goes to show that with the right skills and practice, a motorcycle can be as fun and safe as a bike was when you were a kid

Awesomeness! Merry Christmas to you and Miss Donna. Jerry i so enjoy your videos! I bought the series earlier this year. Super enjoy watching them and your new stuff. Hasd an incident just like in MEAN STREETS, a car pulled out in front of me from the left side of the street after they had received their food order from a curb side pick up. There were two other lanes to my right full of dinner time traffic in this college town. Without hesitation I looked swerved and dipped around the negligent driver, safely back into my respective lane! I thanked God for my success and then you! Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year...

I"m glad she got down to see you. I recommended you but of course so did so many others. She's very talented and it's hard not to be envious of that talent and being open minded about learning. I believe that is what gets you over the fear factor. I started watching her, yes she is very pretty but she's determined to make it no matter what. Thanks for taking the time to help her out. I wish there were more of you to share this teaching. It's been over a couple of years and I know I have lost some of that technique just because of not keeping my eyes and head turned. A good instructor with patience is so important. Some instructors have no patience, and seem to expect you to master riding a bike as soon as you get on it.Everyone is different. Some get it straight away, especially clutch control, which seems to be the major issue with beginners and some need plenty of lessons to do things like slalom and figure of eight training.Even the U turn and stopping can still give experienced riders problems.I’ve seen it with my own eyes.A good instructor with patience will make learning fun and not an ordeal👍🏍

These techniques are the same in all motorcycle classes, especially ones taught by current and former motor officers. Head-Eyes, Friction-Zone mastery, Engine RPM's and Body Positioning. You cannot master low-speed or even high speed riding without these. But some teachers are much better than others so maybe going to FL to learn from him would be worth it.

Hi Jerry, thanks so much for your videos. Quick question - when you say friction point, throttle and brakes on the u turn drills, do you mean keep the clutch at friction point and increase throttle and brakes as needed? Thanks again.

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  3 роки тому +2

It's 95% clutch and throttle/friction, zone and a bit of pressure on the rear brake. You are fluctuating the clutch within the friction zone. As you get better with the friction zone you can eliminate the rear brake pressure.

I've had similar experiences with teaching ladies how to shoot. They typically get the hang of it in about 10 rounds. Most guys its a box of ammo before they are doing everything correctly. lol

Watched this again and i disagree with a statement that Jerry made when he said it doesn't matter how long you been riding, I feel like it does because we or I need to un learn alot of bad habits and relearn good ones , sometimes that can be a tall herdle to clear . Thanks for what you do Jerry . Meg did so good , really enjoyed this video.

Impressive. I have ridden various cruisers and sport bikes over the years. I recently got a Heritage and was surprised how nimble the bigger bikes can be when actually using the techniques you teach.

I found Megan's channel a few weeks ago. Jerry I emailed you about a beginner bike and l like your two recommendations, I am till looking for a Triumph Bonneville or a Kawasaki Vulcan S both with ABS. Illinois is still closed at the DMV so I cannot get my motorcycle endorsement on my DL.

My g/f stands 4'-10 with a 25" inseam.. she rides a ZZR250 with the seat cut down about an inch and a half. She now has 190 hours in the saddle and 6600km... I'd rather ride with her than with many more experienced riders... not just because she is my g/f, but because her skills are far higher than many riders with more time in the saddle. Cheers from Canada!

    Hi Jerry,
At 4'11" it's hard to find a bike that fits my small height. Short legs is my problem. So for me I ride the Honda Rebel 500. I've been to the Harley dealership and sat on their bikes, my legs were dangling. You shortening the bike is not a good idea.
Would love to take your class one day, but would have to bring my Honda.
    I live in North Carolina.
Any tips about my problem of short legs.
    Heidi
