Thanks for the training, Jerry! Usually when I train with Jerry the first day is horrible, and then the 2nd day looks more like this. For the first time, (as he always tells us to do) I actually practiced (for about a week) before training with him today - it made all the difference 😅
I enjoyed the the humorous banter between and Jerry. Hopefully we’ll see that bike on the dirt as well as the street.

hi just passed my test in the uk 64 years old and 5ft 6 ins , had test in the uk . just bought the same bike triumph tiger 900 gt pro love it . took notice of you gerry and read all your books what a great help they where thanks .
Jerry - thanks for all the training content you put out there. I found your channel by accident I'm sure more than a year ago. I subscribed for a couple reasons. I love the training. I'm one of those that before joining GWRRA in 2017, I'd ridden 40K accident-free miles since 1991 but knew I would benefit from formal training, and riding with other more experienced riders. Joining GWRRA gave me the opportunity of training and learning how to group ride. The other reason is that my grandfather was a motor officer in Dayton, OH after he came back from WWII. He rode a single seat Indian, and I loved listening to his stories. I have a friend nearing retirement that's a motor officer in the Orlando area. You give us the ability to learn from what should be the best of the best riders. Your training techniques are very similar to what I've learned in the GWRRA ARC courses. A bucket list item for me is to ride to Florida and come to one of your training classes. Thanks for the consistent and constant training videos you put out there. We can never get enough training. My motto since 1991 when I got my endorsement has been "when you ride a motorcycle, you're taking the ultimate test in defensive driving. If you fail the test, you're likely to pay with your life." Always ride safe, never drink and ride, and always work on those skills. Merry Christmas Jerry to you and your family!!!
Doodle inspired me to start practicing slow speed skills again after after riding for 40 years. I was amazed at how badly I had let those skills get. Thanks to you both for getting me going again in the practice drills! Ed

Good for her! It's so good to see more and more women riders. When I was 18 I rode with a guy who had no clue what he was doing. It scared the bajezus out of me and I didn't get on another bike until I was 57. The driver was experienced and I got the bug. I took a safety course, and flunked the driving part of it (that darn cone weave). But I didn't let that stop me. I bought a bike and practiced. I wish I had had these videos to watch at the time. Finally, at 60, I got my endorsement! There's nothing like riding. I wish I had started when I was Doodle's age. Thank you, Jerry, and all the other teachers who help us and keep us safe.

I love your videos. I’m just curious, were you on the low-low version of the Triumph gt pro? At 5’6”, I recently tested one out here in San Diego and thought of you. Compared to other “adventure bikes,” I thought it felt light and nimble, almost scooter like because it’s so nice and easy to ride. I’d certainly consider one if/when I ever start riding longer distances. Enjoy, ride safe, and keep up the good work 🏍😎

Thanks for this video for sure. I am short as well, I’m on the balls of my feet on my Africa Twin DCT. Nice to see Doodle work through the exercises. I will have this bike for awhile so I need to conquer the height factor. I did get my seat in the lowest position possible and that helps some. I never plan to lower the suspension of any bike I get, I don’t want to create more problems.

It's all down to technique. The type of bike is a minor consideration as long as you know the techniques to ride well. Doodle looks like a seasoned pro out there, making it look so easy.

That's an excellent brake light. When Doodle first got that light, she demonstrated that the brake light works whether you are riding, walking or running.
Jerry, did you trade riding skills for video and music editing skills? Great video. I follow both of you and really enjoy it.
Unless I missed it, you didn’t address the coming to a stop and foot down issue for shorter riders in this video. I’m part of that growing segment of female riders and I’m short - 5’4”. Of course I can handle pretty much any motorcycle when it is in motion, but coming to a stop and putting a foot down is the issue. For tall bikes I have to slide the part of my body in contact with the seat to the left in order to get my left foot down. I end up with my right leg hooked over the motorcycle seat. Reverse when accelerating from the stop.
If I do a lot of stop and go it’s painful and tiring. It’s also riskier because I don’t have that right leg as backup if my stop doesn’t go completely as planned and I experience even a minor loss in balance. You would be doing a great service to us short people if you would create a video on how to address short people/taller bikes at stops and starts. How to do it safely and with as little extra effort as possible. Thanks!
I see she has the low seat option, which also helps. Yeah, good technique. She'll do well out on the road.

Love dual sports but my bones at 75 are not as strong as thy need to be to ride like I'd want to . Love Triumphs and will have my 765 RS for years, perhaps till the end. Good luck to her.

Doodle has the skills for any bike, that bike is to big for me at my current skill level but that will change.

I took the intermediate civilian class offered by the Alameda County Sheriffs Office about 12-15 years ago. It included drills similar to what you do. You’ve taught Doodle well and she is a good student. She did very well.
Now throw her at the cloverleaf and the eliminator. Make sure there’s a wall at the back of the eliminator. The psychological effect is important with that one.
The problem she’s gonna have is off-road in rough terrain when she needs to dab. She has studied with Jocelin Snow as well, who is really short, so she knows how to slide off to one side, which will help.
I was always a big HD guy but I’m converting to Adv bikes. They are great too. HD will always have a place but the Adv bikes dominate for other types of riding.
100% agreed I used to see a lady 5 foot tops, 45kg tops riding a Honda CBX1000 (old 6 cylinder) to work every day, she used the kerb to get on and off but rode like a champion

I’m thinking of an adventure bike as well. I’m going to sell my Vaqueo and possibly my Ducati Monster. I’ve been eyeing the triumph, super tenere and Vstrom 1050.
I would have liked to have seen more on stopping and starting, and on manual handling. In my experience these are the things that "short" riders are most worried about.
She stopped and started before every single exercise. I don't know what ''manual handling'' means.
@@motorman857 What I meant was there didn't seem to be any tips for what to do when stopping the bike, (especially on a camber/hill/rough surface). Manual handling is pushing the bike back and forth.
Hi Jerry, I just found your video and got excited about the content. I am a 5ft 9ins female who loves Enduro type bikes but put off by their height. I would love to have seen tips on handling these types of bikes on uneven road surfaces. Where I live is extremely hilly and many roads with traffic lights on steep inclines. I do not have any trouble generally handling a motorcycle but the height of Enduro type bikes makes it impossible for a shorter person to ride unless on a level surface.
The good news is most of these types of bikes have a low version. Or, you can lower them to fit you. Since they have so much ground clearance to begin with, lowering them, unlike a cruiser, will still give you plenty of lean angle. Just know that going off road, you need the height.

As a short guy (5'5"), I prefer to ride lower motorcycles, than off-roads, as I really don't like if the larger lean-angle, when waiting for a traffic light with one foot on the ground,
The off-road types aren't my thing anyway, because otherwise I might have not cared and deemed it a minor inconvenience.
(But that Laverda 1200 Iota, waiting for a rebuild in my dad's garage 😍😘🥰)
She's a nice young lady and both of you are doing good things for the biker community. I want to see her upright it from the bike being on it's side on the ground. There are techniques and it would be good to cover this for people riding bigger/heavier bikes, especially smaller people.

nice vid. but how do you handle it in traffic. like stopping for a trafficlight. mount and dismount a motorcycle as a small rider? I wish i had the nerve to ride a BMW 1200gs/rt but to scared to drop. i am 5'5 (166cm europe) btw i can handle a Yamaha 1300 FJR factory seat.

Most adventure bikes have lowering kits that alleviate most of the problem. The ability to ride the bike isn't the problem it's holding it up for long periods at a stop light.

What are the riding techniques for people who can't even get one foot on the ground with it straight up? When I sit on a 600 and it is upright, my feet dangle on both sides by many inches. This means when I stand it up on one foot, the bike is extremely leaned over. Obviously this isn't a problem for riding but it is a massive problem for emergency stopping and crowded parking lots.

Question for Jerry and the group: as a short rider my concern when only reaching with toes is what happens if is need to stop on an incline like a hill or steep driveway? Not ideal of course but emergencies happen.

Good tips, thanks. You should be aware that height is not the main issue, it is inseam length. I am 5ft 8in but have only a 28.5 inseam. Most folk my height are around 30 inseam. The real problem arises when stopping heavy, tall bikes on streets with steep cambers and on gradients. Flat car parks are not real world conditions.Perhaps Doodle could demonstrate how she deals with them?
She does. Just watch her channel doodle on a motorcycle. She has at least a dozen videos on short riders on tall bikes.
Exactly! or you pull up, put your foot down and there's a hole in the road...and you are down. I have a Tiger 900 but my first mod was to fit Luss lowering links.
@@tonyvidtube there was a "Low" model of the XrX variant in the previous Tiger 800 line. Not sure about the latest model. I chose the Low for the above reason.
It's all good whilst you are on the road, but when you take it on the dirt where the surface isn't even......you put your foot down to find a pot hole or the surface slopes away, by the time you realize the bike is going over it is too late, you won't catch it. Make sure you do some training in the rough as well as the road.

Most Adventure biking is off highway. This is where the bike height becomes a problem.
Dirt, mud, rocks, trees, off camber, ruts etc.

It amazes me what bikers will put up with. I had one of the 80s GSs and I thought that was big. But it was great as a tourer and competent off road. Now this bike and others like it have mutated into monsters. They CAN be ridden 'off-road' but really only by committed and very skilful riders. I aint that skilled, nor do I want to be. I've been riding all sorts of bikes on all sorts of roads, trails and tracks and in all weathers, for over fifty years and think these so-called 'adventure' bikes are plain stupid.

It's not a mobility scooter. It's a, tow a wagon full of traffic cones around the parking lot scooter.
I disagree to the statement that size or height of the motorcycle doesn't matter. Having your feet flat on the floor builds confidence. I am 5' 4" with 27" inseam and had a hard time managing a sport bike. Purchased a Rebel 500 and my confidence is so much better.
Yes it really does matter what your inside leg/inseam length is. You may be able to ride slowly but you still have to get on and off as well as stop on the bike with one foot on the ground. If you are not comfortable doing all that or in complete control then the bike is not for you.

I’m 5.10 and Yamaha Xmax is little big for me so how is it this 5.4 girl can ride 220kg motorcycle? Riding law’s should be concentrated on those issues.

I have no doubt that you are a great instructor. I've seen a few of your videos,you are really good on motorbikes. But! Let's take a look at a few who travel around the world by motorcycle! Itchy boots=honda 300ccm. Pedro Mota=honda 600ccm. Charly Shinewan bmw800ccm. Pavlin from Bulgaria=700ccm. Yamaha. another woman, (on her bike) I guess = 700ccm. Husqvarna etc.etc. We all saw how much Charly struggled on rough terrain with his 800cc BMW! On straight asphalt there is no problem. But what does the young lady do, alone, if she falls on rough terrain and there is no one within tens or hundreds of kilometers?
It won't take log to drop it once she stops on a trafic light. Why not buy a lower bike ???

Can I ride bikes that are tall for me? Yes. Do I enjoy it when stopped on uneven terrain? Nope. Does my ego push me into riding bikes that aren't as enjoyable to ride? Probably so.

Yup. That's when technique really comes in handy. Especially, head and eyes. Looking well ahead and never looking at that pot hole you don't want to hit.

@@OSOFLHP I know. I was just messin with ya. To get over that fear, turn full lock and while using the friction zone, start duck walking the bike in a circle. Next, try occasionally picking up your foot for a few feet in that circle. Then get to where you can do the circle full lock with your feet on the pegs and look as far over your shoulder as possible thru the circle.

@@motorman857 I'll try that I can u turn in 2 parking spaces but somehow just can't turn the bars full stop but close, I've yet to put it on the crash bars, does that mean I'm not trying hard enough?
If she can both kick up and then down the kickstand then all that matters depends is how she rides with having a brain. There are 200lbs plus guys that shouldn't even go there to the asking.
