  • A bogged motorhome in the outback. No recovery equipment. No satellite communications. Only by sheer luck was this couple able to get themselves out of potentially serious trouble…

    I know this happens, but when you see soft sand ahead, stop and checkout the track. Then if you do get bogged like these people, sit down, access the situation, get out all equipment you have, make a plan and stick to it.
    Ok, it would be hard work, but even this camper would be able to be removed from this bog.
    Every vehicle has a jack, ok it's a bit of hard work, jack up each wheel as high as you can go, fill the hole with whatever you can find and the track behind the wheel. Take your time, have plenty of rests and drink plenty of water, can be done.

    Should you really use a chain like a snatch strap? I wouldn't have thought so, but I guess if that's all you've got at your disposal?

      I think in this case it was a matter of using whatever was available, and when you’re bogged in the middle of nowhere, you’d take whatever help you can get!

      @gorv Yeah, true. Even better, perhaps any motorhome owner should carry some recovery gear if getting off the bitumen? I’m converting a bus, and your video has now prompted me to carry some. Thanks.
