I discovered punk in 1984 and the Young Ones a couple of years later. I finally saw the Damned live along with the Dictators in Norwalk, CT the night before last. They still got it, and they're not letting age pry it out of them.
This was the first time I saw and heard the Damned. I loved the Youngh Ones as a kid of 12 or 13. And the Damned performance in 1984 has to be the best on the programme *.
First time I saw this awesome band was on a Young Ones repeat a few years after it first came out. Thank you for still singing to me for almost 35 years!
I loved that episode. It's how I got into The Damned back in 1986. I finally got to see all yous during your 40th anniversary tour in Houston and when Captain asked "Do you know of the Young ones"? The crowd went wild. Awesome show. Love ya guys!
I love The Damned, seen them live last night in Liverpool and they were excellent .I recall this episode of the Young Ones as I was a big fan of the show and the tune is a Damned classic.
I saw them in the SO36 in Kreuzberg many moons ago. And they turned up 2 hours late smashed out of their heads and then played for another 2 hours. Fucking brilliant. Best band ever
Yeah Motordamn would have been great. But both episodes both bands appeared in were the best. Talking about Motorhead didn't Lemmy do a Pot Noodle commercial once? It's strange cos when the Damned appeared doing 'Nasty' Alexei Sayle is in the bog taking the piss out of Pot Noodle. On later re runs of the series on TV the Pot Noodle footage was edited out. Probably for legal reasons.
Nice one Captain, I videoed every episode of the young ones, i couldnt believe it when the Danmed were gonna play in their livingroom ! after that i thought wow if i won the lotto, i would ask the Damned to play in my livingroom Hahahaha
I had k ow idea you lived 30 minutes from me in Devon, you also play with my cuzons husbands punk band the Salads. I've yet to pop over to see you play as I'm sure you've met my sister viv & cuzon Marie. I've been fighting for my country last 4 year's which is more important at this time especially as I took an oath to protect & serve always . Thank you for the music I've been learning to decode what songs are realy teaching us on a spiritual level 🙏. X
I remember it well. I was still at school at the time ,love the young ones and the damned of course, there was some great bands on the young ones, I remember madness being on a couple of times, and Motörhead singing the ace of spades on my favourite episode where the young ones go on university challenge ! Lol. Great memories.
Looking well and fit captain... The damned do go outta their way to keep us loyal deciples in tow but don't worry captain and Co us belfast crew are damned until death see you guys soon Stevie from belfast you know me 😂😂😂😂the 1 with the tattoo lol
Up until this particular episode of the Damned I thought they had disappeared and finished. When I saw them play ' Nasty' I thought they must have a single and album in the charts and this was promoting it. Unfortunately Woolworths didn't have it cos it didn't exist. It did come out eventually as the.b side to 'Thanks for the Night'. But after the Young ones performance I thought they were back with a vengeance a new single and new album and great. But it was not to be. It wasn't a new beginning it was the end of that chapter with the Captain leaving it wasn't the Damned without him. Next I saw them on the tube or TOTP' doing Eloise. I preferred them with two front en 😁👍
Cap left to do Happy Talk. Phantasmagoria and Anything Followed. Roman Jugg and The Late Bryn Merrick played on those records. Like All. Agreed, Nasty Was Good record as was Thanks For The Night. Eloise......Doodoodoodoodoodoodoodoo
WTF ? The Young Ones aired first on BBC 1 with different artists performing every week with the chaotic 4 . I never missed an episode and taped it onto VHS and watched almost religiously, the DAMNED were awesome on it. Good ol' auntie beeb, f*** MTV.
Under the floor again Once I was up and in the air but now I'm down Goodbye to all my friends Forget I ever was the mole goes underground Under the floor again Eight years of hide and seek no peek of me is seen I skip the law again The to and fro the come and go and miss the scene But who was the girl we saw last night Wearing a frock and gown she's kinda paralysed A door in the floor a head materialised I'm sure that I saw a face I recognised Don't say a word Just stay here at my leisure No sound is heard Can't take my simple pleasures Like walking in the park And taking in the air Just lock me in the dark It's no fun Under the floor again My baccy bets and beer are here and all I need I'm feeling sore again Three feet of life is all I have and rats to feed Won't say a word Just stay here at my leisure No sound is heard Can't take my simple pleasures Like breathing in the air It's cleaner than the stuff I've had in recent months It's no fun Under the floor again Once I was up and in the air but now I'm down
Not their best incarnation but...you have to love The Damned. They’re a bit like a punk version of The Last of the Summer Wine. Many cast members and old...like me. Dave Vanian still looks amazing though. Less hair but don’t we all.
I believe he left at the beginning of the year. I remember the statement after their last U.S. show. He then played their London dates and that was it.
Keep them coming. ... How about Dave talking about his bike or any other vintage collections/ films or Monty on his favourite music . Could get Capt & Stu ( yeah just to catch up) to talk about his train spotting hobby ( I am serious) , since they both are that way inclined lol . Just no more looking back at 76 please as I must have heard every interview, 100 times 🤨.

This is what introduced me to The Damned! Never looked back. :)
Likewise. I was already a Motorhead fan, and they'd been on a fortnight earlier, but this was the point I became aware of the Damned.
"The Young Ones" was fantastic, and this was my all time favorite episode. One of the band's most cracking tunes!
You're not so safe, in the safety of your room!!!
Long live to The Damned, one of the most influential bands, in the history of Rock. Greetings.
Captain ...you look great THANKS FOR ALL THE YEARS OF JOY !!!
It's still as much fun watching this today as it was back in the early 80's on MTV.
A lot easier to watch now days on you tube, instead of waiting until Sunday nights back then lol
This was the first time I saw and heard the Damned. I loved the Youngh Ones as a kid of 12 or 13. And the Damned performance in 1984 has to be the best on the programme *.

Great Episode and enjoy listening to the Captain reminiscing (Vox Guitar, BBC Catering n' all!) 🤓👍🏻
I loved that episode. It's how I got into The Damned back in 1986.
I finally got to see all yous during your 40th anniversary tour in Houston and when Captain asked "Do you know of the Young ones"? The crowd went wild.

Went to their 10th anniversary gigs that year

Thank you for allowing us to meet and greet with you in Chicago last year. A dream come true after forty plus years.
The captain is number 1. What a great guy.
I can remember watching this with me big brother what a tune the damned are the best end of
Made a big impact on my life. Cheers. Whoo whoo
Back when this originally aired in MTV I recorded this on VHS. This was my favorite episode!!! Thanks so much Captain.
Brilliant stuff. keep em coming, I'm loving the past memories
More of this please.. all talk of the virus sucks. 😎
Just after this aired I went to see The Damned at Nostell Priory and Captain had jumped ship and Roman was now on guitar, it was a great gig though!
Thanks for Young Ones, gardening tips from my fave bass player, and just helping us get through.......
Thanks Captain of my all time favorite band! Cheers from San Diego! Come play our wierd little casino again, please!
I love The Damned, seen them live last night in Liverpool and they were excellent .I recall this episode of the Young Ones as I was a big fan of the show and the tune is a Damned classic.
This was the moment that I became a Damned fan. Saw them recently in Newcastle....mint!!!
They need to show it again on Sunday nights this show still rocks
Thanks Cap! The night I saw this was the night I went from- heard a couple Damned songs to Fanclub! Love from covid leader, the US..

I would love to see a similar video about the Old grey whistle test appearance when all the gear got trashed.
Are you social distancing ? no - we are the Damned
This is so rad! Haha keep it up. Enjoying these videos a lot
I saw them in the SO36 in Kreuzberg many moons ago. And they turned up 2 hours late smashed out of their heads and then played for another 2 hours. Fucking brilliant. Best band ever

Watched it at the time and was so proud MY band was on the telly No actually mine lol.
The Damned & Motörhead play on the Young Ones ! Thats the Mutts Nuts in my book !

The best fucking sitcom ever.
Nice video do you think Dave will do one ?
Can you do a vid explaining your guitar rig and how you achieved your guitar sound on Sanity Clause?
I’ll keep asking until you cave in and answer!
Cheers
What kind of pipe tobacco does Dave prefer in his pipe, if you please? Thank you
"Careful with that axe you meany"....
MCA wouldn't sign The Damned if the Captain was still in them. What a bunch of wankers. The chemistry of this line up was magical.
Under the floor again
Once I was up and in the air but now I'm down
Goodbye to all my friends
Forget I ever was the mole goes underground
Under the floor again
Eight years of hide and seek no peek of me is seen
I skip the law again
The to and fro the come and go and miss the scene
But who was the girl we saw last night
Wearing a frock and gown she's kinda paralysed
A door in the floor a head materialised
I'm sure that I saw a face I recognised
Don't say a word
Just stay here at my leisure
No sound is heard
Can't take my simple pleasures
Like walking in the park
And taking in the air
Just lock me in the dark
It's no fun
Under the floor again
My baccy bets and beer are here and all I need
I'm feeling sore again
Three feet of life is all I have and rats to feed
Won't say a word
Just stay here at my leisure
No sound is heard
Can't take my simple pleasures
Like breathing in the air
It's cleaner than the stuff
I've had in recent months
It's no fun
Under the floor again
Once I was up and in the air but now I'm down
According to the Young Ones doco I saw it was all Cap's fault - he was dancing on the table causing fights. Ha, ha
Not their best incarnation but...you have to love The Damned.
They’re a bit like a punk version of The Last of the Summer Wine.
Many cast members and old...like me.
Dave Vanian still looks amazing though. Less hair but don’t we all.
Did Pinch leave the band? He's not in the credits!
I believe he left at the beginning of the year. I remember the statement after their last U.S. show. He then played their London dates and that was it.
Where my Damned addiction started
That’s a VOX Phantom!
(confirmation after watching the whole video)

LIVING LEGEND

They tell me I’m safe in the safety of my room?
Dave's hair in this era. 😂
More please - just for the pig.
Rat Scabies on drums, as it always should've been in the Damned.
Ha! I remember that! :D (Do you dig graves?)
They're alright, yeah...
@@kenlieck7756 LOL! :[
Dave was the gravedigger 🤣🤣
The captain and rat wrecked toilets lol
Stephen Mccoy I remember! 😀
TRY MOTORDAMNED
VERY METAL....
HA HA HA..
Unlike you Captain, Dave looks very unhealthy, but that's just the way it is.
The sun goes down and 'THEY' get up, that is the normal Vampire flap
