  • I am joined by David Scott & Donald Armstrong to discuss being a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET). If you are unfamiliar with these two gentleman then I highly encourage you become acquainted. David Scott started his Biomed ways as a 68A via Fitzsimons and was one of the originators of the CABMET CBET Study Group. Donald has held every Biomed position through his career and is a true professional Biomed currently residing as the technical training manager at Renovo. Both of them provide tutelage for the AAMI CBET Study Group. Not to mention they both hold over 65 years of Biomed knowledge. I was honored to sit down and soak up some wisdom. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for our field gentleman!

    I appreciate the effort you go through to put out these videos there really are not enough resources to bring in younger people into the field. I feel that I should amend my previous comment. The CBET is something I think anyone in the biomedical industry should have as a goal for plenty of reasons most are touched on in this video. It is on my list as well even if only for the credibility. (Though it’s not at the top of the list at the moment, but I’m sure that will change) thanks again for your time sitting down and discussing this

      We all gonna find our reasons for things and what we are striving for. The CBET might be a bigger priority for some and not for others. Appreciate you watching 🙏

    Much appreciated on the information. At the moment I'm not eligible just yet to take the exam, but it's on my to do list, I rather do it early as a learning tool as well as adding a chip for bargaining during evaluation.

    Great information! I don't meet the CBET requirements to take the test just yet, but I do plan on taking it when I can. I did get my CABT although it doesn't do much for me since I'm already a BMET.

    What would you recommend for a Biomed that was wants to get CBET but has never really worked within a hospital setting, but mainly as a Dialysis Biomed.

      The CBET is going to be extremely tough if you don't know about the different modalities. The study guides and the study group will be helpful but I couldn't tell you if they would get you over the hump. You could start out with the CABT and work your way towards the CBET

      Appreciate you watching. Doing an MOS swap to 68A will serve you far better than getting out and prusing the career just through college. What is great for you is that there is a great Biomed community out in Colorado CABMET! Now if your planning to stay in your current MOS use that education benefit and start knocking out classes towards a electrical Instrumentation or biomedical engineering degree with a college of your choice, but Def would recommend looking into online classes with CBET (College Of Biomedical Equipment Technology). If you go one of those routes you will be setup better than trying to break into the industry otherwise

    This is good and interesting information. I'm a Army trained lab tech transfered into third party field service. Even during my Army days I always feel more accomplished working on the equipment instead of just using it.
    Being a third party tech it's a quite different ball game. We don't have any certs or offical certificates but I work on a wide spectrum of equipment.
    I am interested in honing the craft some more. Any suggestions/resources for someone like me wants to learning but don't want to go back to school?
    I also do work on validation testing on CTUs such as ultra low freezers, incubators, oven, autoclave, laboratory refrigerator and freezers. Let me know if you are interested in that realm of things.

      Back in the day we had a CLES cert for lab equipment but it's gone away. In regards to honing craft nothing beats out learning in real-time in the field

      @@beardedbiomed That's true, my issue currently is I feel like I'm the jack of all trades and masters of none, so trying to find resources to expand my knowledge some more that will help with electronic trouble shooting and things like that.

      That's how it typically is in field service. The easiest way to become truly familiar with a specific device is the service manual and through experience of troubleshooting those devices outside of oem training. I've learned so much just by diving into equipment I didn't know, reading manuals, asking tech support questions, and posting questions in Biomed groups

      @@beardedbiomedhow can I get started on becoming biomedical technician.

    • @beardedbiomed
      @beardedbiomed  24 дні тому +1

      @maryromero6570 you need to look at getting aome.sort of Biomed background either through something like the College of Biomedical Equipment Technology or.explore the AAMI Apprenticeship Program, or study and take the CABT and see if someone would offer you an internship or tech 1 position after you have that cert
