The instruments are not sterile after the wash, that wash is just to remove all debris from the instruments, they are sterilized in the autoclave while packed.

1:47 all the instruments are in the closed position. Which means they weren’t probably cleaned in the washers and if they remained closed they won’t be properly sterilized in the autoclaves

Question: why is the inspection of the instruments on top of the wrapper what if the bone or bio burden went down on the wrapper, the bottom was not inspected and it seems like.

@@You_Name_It In my experience, none of them wear gloves, besides the people on the dirty side. On the clean side, you "assume" everyone is clean. It depends rust can form sometimes after 3 uses . Most hospitals have on or off site instrument repair services . Usually the or will tag instruments and in decon you put a repair or sharpen tag on instrument or instruments

Sterile processing technicians do this job and they take care of and store things that need to be 100% sterile before usage. I guess you educate yourself to become a sterile processing technichian and try to get a foot in to the game when a job is available.

    • @deannalynn858

The wrapper is pours so that the steam can penetrate it, that is also why the metal containors have holes in them with filters.

Not sterilized yet, plus the first thing you do when you enter the SPD department is scrub your hands and dry them. The SPD is a Restricted area of the hospital, meaning you must change in to hospital scrubs and wear a head/hair cover and shoe covers to enter to minimize outside contaminants being carried in to the department.
