Is there any film footage inside the restaurant in its heyday out on the net? I'd love to see what it looked like in the '50s and '60s... May all the people that spent their lives working for Pernicano's rest in peace...
Hate to see the old buildings like that one come down, but it was time. It's been closed for 35+ years and the rest of us are still open! Hopefully they put some housing and parking there instead of another Starbucks! If you want to see a quick drive-by of Pernicano's in 1970-73, check this video out: ua-cam.com/video/bv_rKwIhfek/v-deo.html
Yep...took a couple of screen captures from that video for the page! I wanted them to save the 5th ave side to keep in context with the rest of the old block. If any buildings on 5th should have been torn down it should have been numbers and the one to the north of it... just wood boxes with no architectural style at all... made poorly.
It’s sad to see one man’s lifetime of hard work be wiped from existence like that. Hats off to the camera person’s patience and skill filming this.
Thank you, that's me!
At 2:00:29 the Pernicano's Sign itself is laid down remarkably gently.
It was saved by Pernicano's great nephew.
@@gregoryagogo Oh that is great!!
Reveals what a cracker box No.1 is!
Like a Godzilla movie!!! Surprised they didn't find any bodies!
And that sign was a force to be reckoned with!!!

They peel off the outer facade,,the old 1946 building is underneath!
Here's a photo of the before 70s facade building: rb.gy/eboeq
Sadly I never got to go to the Hillcrest pernicanos but I remember seeing it as a child on the way to my doctor's office on Washington Street
Pretty surreal to see it come down! So was Fifth Ave. the original main entrance of the place?
They started on that side after moving from the University Ave location.
