- Morley Construction San Diego recently performed the largest concrete pour in our history: 6,649 cubic yards of concrete - or 13,455 tons - were poured on Saturday December 13th as part of the foundation for the San Diego Central Courthouse project. The pour involved more than 700 concrete deliveries; supplying concrete to 5 truck-pumps.
About 12 miles of chilled water piping was been used to cool the concrete slab, preventing the temperature from gaining too much heat and potentially affecting its structural integrity . This cooling method represents the first time that a thermal chilling system has been used in San Diego (to our knowledge), and a first for Morley Concrete!
Morley Construction Company (a subsidiary of Morley Builders Inc.) is performing concrete subcontractor services for the $555M Courthouse; a 25-story, 704,000 -square foot court and office building, designed by architects Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. Steel erection is expected in January; completion is expected in late 2016.
