Hi Jonathan .Going vegan would be much more productive . If the west went vegan we would need 80% less land for crops and we would regain the 25% of the earth's ice free surface that is currently used for grazing.
That land would all revert to trees and wilderness in a vegan world.
The UN states that the number one responsibility we can take is to go vegan . It's the one thing that we can all do today that will make an actual difference .
Terry Fandango we can do both :)
@@jonathancooper4914 Damn right ! And we can plant a lot more trees once we reclaim our land .
Have you gone vegan yet ? I'm trying to roughly gauge how many XR followers are vegan .
Terry Fandango I’ve managed to rarely eat meat and completely give up fish, cows’ milk, eggs and dairy chocolate so far. And I want to go further.
@@isupportthecurrentthing.1514 Interesting. I am at a similar stage to Jonathan when it comes to diet. Why are you trying to gauge how many XR followers are vegan? Is it mere curiosity or do you have a purpose?
From my experience I would guess it is less than half, but that is just a guess :)
The easiest and most effective way to combat climate change is to *ADOPT A VEGAN LIFESTYLE* #liveconsciously #livevegan 🙏🌱❤ *RISE UP FOLKS* ✊✊✊✊✊
So say Oxford University studies, the UN's IPCC reports and a whole host of others. Continue eating murdered animals and die - simple.

But it takes more cleared land to produce an equal amount of plant protein ??
Plants are usually monoculture.
Plants need more water and drain chemicals back into the natural environment.
The only true solution is to massively reduce the human population.

True
The biggest threat to the environment is overpopulation.
What are you doing about the mass migration open door policies that encourage massive global population increase ??
If this is really about the environment then you should be protesting against migration and charity organizations that promote unrestrained population growth in third world countries.
Warwick Lewis immigration is over 200 thousand a year to australia. hobart has a population of abit over 200 thousand. they're adding an entire city worth of pollution every year. you'd think they would want to stop that.
@@abramgoldberg1014 it's actually closer to 400 000 per year.
The Liberal government who got in on a right wing swing vote have actually increased the migrant intake.
We need to have a common sense rebellion.
The most Immediate threat is what this massive population is eating .
The UN states that the number one responsibility we can take is to go vegan . If the world went vegan we would free up 80% of our agricultural land and the 25% of the earth's ice free surface that is currently being used for grazing . We have enough room and resources to sustain the current population and end world hunger if we all go vegan .
@@isupportthecurrentthing.1514 the UN is responsible for the unrestrained population growth that has caused these problems in the first place.
They are not going to admit they are culpable for environmental impact.
It actually requires more land to produce an equal wieght of vegetable protein compared to meat.
Also plants require monoculture environments compared with the biodynamic multi culture pasture environment of raising animals.
Don't worry about what you are told go and see for yourself.
Have a look in a cow pasture you will see grass, trees, birds, bugs, fungus and wild animals growing alongside the cattle.
Compare that to a market garden only the one crop stretching out into the distance no wild birds or insects no grass, trees or fungi sharing the paddock.
@@warwicklewis8735 That's completely false , Warwick . It's a narrative that's being disseminated by special interest groups and it's fairly easy to debunk .
Firstly : the main crop grown to feed cattle is soy which is very high in protein at around 20% . Obviously there will be much loss in the conversion to beef protein . The cows can't magically make more protein than they're eating .
Plants obviously don't need to be monocultured ;I buy my vegetables local and organic from small farms .The plants that are grown in the massive monocultures are fed to livestock . They use a lot of glyphosate on monocultures as they are more susceptible to disease. Ever heard of' round up ready 'soy ? It's not fit for human consumption , we feed it to livestock where the POPs bioaccumulate and enter our food supply anyway .
Most animals are factory farmed but I have seen cows in fields . However with 1/4 of the earth's ice free surface used for grazing it doesn't take a genius to figure out we could be using that land to sequester carbon and then of course there's the methane .Pointing at the animals grazing the field is a red herring because 99% of the animals we eat are factory farmed .
Also , while we're on the subject of free grazing animals , how do you think that a field of grass could produce more protein than a field of soy ?
Did you watch Allan Savories Ted talk by any chance ? That man clearly doesn't understand basic maths .

Did anyone spot Bill at 4:00, the Southeast Queensland organiser for the Retail and Fast Food Workers Union which represents people working in places such as KFC and McDonalds? He says he's supporting XR and is there in solidarity with some of his members who were also there. So, we have people earning a living selling dismembered animal bodies, and their union representatives, keeping these serial murdering and planet destroying companies going, who seem completely unaware of the role of animal agriculture in the destruction of the life support systems of Planet Earth. Anyone agree with me that XR are somewhat remiss here?
Why aren't you telling people the whole truth guys? Today's IPCC report leak is showing you up big time. It is becoming embarrassing. Please take the step to become a vegan organisation and to inform everyone of the true cost of their 'food' choices.

Earth Poets I completely missed that, thanks for pointing it out dude. I really like XR, they are truly raising awareness but I see what you are saying and I did see some coverage of the report today and you are right it is becoming embarrassing.
Growing Crops(Fruit/Veg) actually damages the Environment MUCH MORE than Animal Rearing...
Unless you grow your own Garden of course, and ONLY eat what is in season in your area, so it doesn't have to be Shipped in Shipping Containers on Barges across the world to get to your supermarket. (One of which creates more Pollution and Emissions than All The Cars On Earth Combined...)
So far example, if you eat the same Veggies Year Round - you are actually destroying the planet MORE than any Meat Eater is...

So as you can clearly see - The MAIN FACTORS to consider to really make a difference in protecting the Environment and Lowering Emissions, are;
Transport
and;
Electricity
We need to not use as many Lights/Devices and Cars/Planes/Ships, before worrying about Farming or Other Industries...
@@raymondfoster-senatecandid3325 You are 100% wrong because it's physically impossible to extract more calories of output than calories input. What's this big round thing I'm standing on then ??
See you all in October :)
Get a job
If saving forest is climate action then you should go vegan because the animal agriculture have destroyed and still destroying forest
It takes more cleared land to produce an equal amount of plant protein.
Planted crops are monoculture, where animals allow other species (bugs, worms, the plants) to live alongside them.
If you put Australian farmers out of business the gap will be filled by Chinese agriculture do you seriously think they will do it in a sustainable way.
The single biggest contributor to global pollution is overpopulation what are you doing about the exponential population growth of Africa and Asia ??
@Warwick Lewis It takes up to 16kg of plant protein to create 1kg of animal protein. Most farmed animals are fed plants, especially soy and corn, to grow them quickly, so if you care about land use then you should already be vegan. It also takes much more water to create animal protein, and the excrement produced by those animals is destroying our soil and our waterways and is causing ocean dead zones.
Animal agriculture is responsible for more emissions than all of transportation combined. The Amazon is being cut down to graze cattle and to grow crops to feed to animals at the rate of 1.5 football pitches every second causing a huge loss to the planet's CO2 sink and our ability to produce oxygen.
Around 2.9 Trillion animals are deliberately murdered every single year, that's over 8 Billion animals brutally murdered every single day. 70 Billion land animals are unnecessarily and unjustifiably enslaved, mutilated, tortured and murdered every year.
14 of our top 15 killers of humans are linked to the consumption of animal flesh, dairy and eggs including heart disease, diabetes, cancer, stroke, heart attack and dementia. The erectile dysfunction you're probably familiar with Warwick is caused by the atherosclerotic narrowing of the penile arteries due to your consumption of the cholesterol and saturated fat in animal flesh, dairy and eggs.
And the list of animal agriculture negatives goes on and on and on. Only fools or those with a vested interest promote animal agriculture or consume what it produces.
Any smart Australian animal farmers should either move to growing plants or retrain to do something else. Animal farmers are on the wrong side of history and are responsible for enormous amounts of violence. How they live with themselves I have no idea.
Anyone unsure of the facts presented here who wishes to educate themselves shouldwatch *COWSPIRACY" & *WHAT THE HEALTH* & *DOMINION*
@@EarthPoets propaganda lies and outright bullshit are the staple food of the vegan indoctrination.
Most animal agriculture is multi use pasture compared with the monoculture of plant crops.
When you raise cattle you have thriving biodiversity made up of hundreds of codependent ecosystems, animals, birds, insects, worms, plants, bacteria and fungus all gathering their nutrient needs from each other in a biodynamic cycle.
When you grow soy beans only soy plants grow any fungal or insect infestation has to be controlled (usually chemically) or it will wipe out the entire crop there is no coexisting species or incidental species dependence.
The majority of plant crops require rich fertile soil and copious amounts of water need to be brought to them.
Most need to be replanted yearly with the ground having to be replenished and all native vegetation removed before planting.
They produce only for a brief period seasonally and must be harvested within a short space of time.
Animals can survive on unproductive dry environments with little or no human assistance.
They can graze and water themselves moving around and with native wild life and giving the land time to replenish itself.
Reproduction takes place naturally and they can be harvested as required all year round.
If you choose not to eat meat that is entirely up to you.
But you have no right to force your decision onto other people.
Using trickery, deception and lies in order to coerce other people is morally wrong.
If you truly believe that you are on the higher moral ground then don't use misrepresentation and subterfuge.
Your arguement is about animal rights activism nothing to do with climate change or environmental concern.
If you really care about the environment do something about population growth and the rise in cheap disposable imported products.
Your current course of action will only benefit imported produce from less environmentally conscious countries.

The Land and Environment is more important than our Political Differences...
Time to Unite to Save the Planet and stop our Extinction perhaps?..
@@raymondfoster-senatecandid3325 well the problems you're talking about are related to our capitalist economic system. As long as that persists, we will have these problems.
Real sustainability and harmony with nature can only be achieved if we don't let the CEOs of fossil fuel and fracking companies decide whether they should continue with their business or not. It can only be achieved when we strip the crazy rich people off their power, because they'll do whatever they can to keep their wealth, even if it means the destruction of the planet.
Money corrupts, not religion or ethnicity. Once you accept that we are all humans with the same needs and desires, I'll be happy to stop climate change with you together, but as long as you try to divide people and target minorities, you're my enemy and I'll never let you feel safe.

Cheers mate - I am running for the senate if you want to follow my campaign and help out that would be appreciated.
I wish XR (or at least the comments here) were less apologetic of capitalism.
Do you think the communist regimes of China or Russia are doing more to stop climate change ??
@@warwicklewis8735 communist regime of Russia? Are you serious? Have you missed the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991?
China might call itself communist, but is actually hardcore capitalist (no universal health care, no minimum wage, high school tuition fees).
But that's besides the point, because no matter what a few countries are doing, we live in a capitalist world order and as long as that's the case, all countries are forced to adopt a capitalist economy.
All I'm reading in the comments is "go vegan, then the world is saved" (or something along those lines). And don't get me wrong, it would help a lot (I'm vegan myself), but that wouldn't stop the massive exploitation of 3rd world countries and the need to rid the world more of its ressources to fuel an ever growing world economy and consumption.
@@ConstantinKlose-sj4mb so what your saying is that the communist political model has failed everywhere it has been tried ??
Going vegan doesn't stop pollution.
In order to produce enough plant protein to feed the current world population will actually require more cleared land.
The only logical solution is to reduce world population.
The third world is trying to become more like our economy because that is the model that works best.
To do this they sell their produce to those who want to buy.
This isn't exploitation as both sides get something they want out of it.
Stop stereotyping with 19th century history and look at todays global trade networks.

Plant trees! Preferably food and biofuel producing trees...just look back to the planet history, there were periods of very warm climate, but during those periods there were huge trees in the forest to shield biodiversity from high heat ...
Our planet is only 25% covered with trees. We must change our staple food from wheat, maize, rye barley to CHESTNUTS. I believe breads made from CHESTNUTs will taste nice..If we can plant trees to cover up 80% of our planet, then come CO2 rises to 800 ppm, we , along with the surviving biodiversity, should be SAFE !
Agree. I have planted a good few trees recently and next year (when I should have more resources at my disposal) I will really kick my guerrilla gardening efforts into overdrive.
My plans are simple - I want to be carbon negative and sustainable. I want as much of my country to be the same. I want to minimise the damage of any food shortages. I am going to do my best to preserve the nature we still have in the UK and to re-wild as much as I personally can manage.
I will also attend as many climate protests as possible because I am just one man. We need collective action and we need the governments of the world to do much much more.
Good luck :)
