A little off-topic, but if you also needed help with understanding any nail gel (as that's my specialty), I created this free-guide to help you with that paolaponcenails.com/gels101/
A month ago I heard about poly gel and I got excited about having beautiful nails again without the damage I got for the 10 years that I was dedicated to my nails. I tried the poly gel and dual forms but it was hit and miss. While watching content about nails I saw videos about full coverage soft gel tips and thought this might be a better way for me to go. And it is. I realize that there's a learning curve to everything. Also I've learned that the quality of your products is everything! I purchased a nail drill and I knew with my first use that I will have to get a better drill. I'm looking at a drill from the brand "MelodySusie". Drill bits are important. I will be getting the best drill bits I can afford going forward. I could go on forever as my nails are my new obsession. I'm happy to see that you are still posting content so I will definitely be watching 💜
Not trying to be controversial but I’ve tried both and found virtually no difference other than HOW they soak off. The gels soak off like how gel normally would (as expected) and the plastic tips almost completely changes the consistency of the acetone. In my opinion, the soft gels are a lot faster, easier, cleaner, and even more comfortably to soak off than plastic tips. Also, the plastic tips immediately start to dissolve when acetone touches it, whereas the soft gel tips have to be sitting and soaking in it for awhile. In terms of your differences, I think (1) they both can be applied the same way. (2) I HAVE to use a dehydrator/primer for everything, regular nail lacquer included so I’m not sure if this applies to everyone. So I cannot apply any kind of nail enhancement alone or else I want them to pop off quickly. (3) I think they both should be completely soaked off for removal if you adhere them with gel. (4) I have plastic tips in both natural and sculpted in various lengths and shapes that are identical to brand name soft gel tips. (5) I’ve also seen soft gel tips that are pre-etched, but tbh, I NEVER pre-etch my tips and never have issues with lifting 😉🤫 But in general, not trying to be a hater or a debater, just wanted to share my 2 years of experience with full cover tips. 🤗 Love and appreciate your videos Paola!!!
Got ya. In this video I’m going off of my experience when a company begins offering these kind of tips. In my experience when companies say ‘our tips are soft gel’ the differences I listed in the video apply, when companies just say “plastic” same thing, the differences I listed in the video apply. Again... just in my experience.
Both tips are made of the same plastic. A chemist did test multiples and they are both made from pvs plastic the only difference is that one tip is applied with base gel and the other is applied with resin (glue). The companies are just trying to trick people with marketing.
I think that could be a believable statement because there was toaster oven but now they're remarking in it as a air fryer but it uses the same convection technology
Xtens has the patent on full cover tip systems and they were actually the very first to come out with them, not Apres. Which is interesting cuz Apres took all the limelight and everyone calls their dupes a "Gel X" dupe, when technically Gel X is an "Xtens dupe" lol. Apres became more popular so therefore people assumed they were the innovators, which makes me sad for Xtens. But on their site they do mention that they werent worried about rushing their marketing just to say they were the first, and they do show their patent. But ya, just thought I'd share that since I literally just learned this and was also someone who thought Apres invented these systems. We gotta give credit where credit is due! lol. Thanks for sharing! This was a super cool vid. Love your videos.
I've heard this story. However at that time of Après coming out, they had more shapes and styles then Extens which only had two shapes. This is why I went with Après.
@@kathykov1 Ya that totally makes sense. Also makes sense as to why Apres ended up being the bigger company with this method, they had more options. Xtens should have stepped their game up being that they invented it! But I guess they're proud enough to just be the first, and not the best lol.
You know this happens a lot. And I was gonna tell you the story of Beta Max and VHS, until I just realized, no one here is probably old enough to know what VHS video tapes are... lol So I'll just say that yes, a lot of time the one with the patent, isn't the one who gets the credit and or the money. Just look into the creation of the telephone or anything Tesla did, that Bell stole from him... So good on you for bringing to light who really created what, I agree - credit should be given to whom it is due... 😉
Hi I use a soak off system and I’m able to fill them and i can blend the cuticle area for a flush natural look. I use a dehydrator and non acid primer in their system, but I thought it was for adhesion of the base gel before adding the full coverage tips. I’ve had excellent results and long term wear.
The perspective this video takes is that of when a company markets their full coverage tips as "soft gel" vs "plastic". Please check out my perspective on all nails ending up as a form of plastic at the end, in the intro of this video I made over a year ago ua-cam.com/video/N_pTnAkkMSQ/v-deo.html
So just to confirm, if I wanted to experiment on myself at home, my tips don't have to be a specific "soft gel" tips, and I can use tips listed as ABS plastic, and apply the same way, with the same extend gel as I would when using a soft gel system?
Yesss girl, if your practicing though I recommend using a peel off base before had so that you can pop them off if it doesn’t come out right the first couple times of practice ❤
How would you know you have purchased a plastic tip or a soft gel tip ? Is their any differences ? When u bend them and what so ever ? I’ve bought some from Ali and the description says soft gel but I am super skeptic if they are plastic ☺️
@@W.i.n.n.i.m.i.n.n.i I’m sorry but that’s just not accurate, or true. There are tons of tips on Amazon that are not being sold as gel tips, that do say they’re abs plastic in the description and part of their selling point is that you can bend them and not get a white line.
Hi I have a high natural apex, I have tried so many different brands of full cover tips n they jst dnt look to good, like big n bulky, I nva try the soft gel tips yet but I tried other brands of full cover, n it's always the same, plz any tips will help, or should I jst stay away from press ons/soft gel tips
Would you suggest the pre-etched full cover nails for press on’s? That’s what I’m getting really curious about, moreso for the pre-etched ones that are bendy at the nailbed area.
Those are what I would recommend. I’m not a professional but I was taught by my grandma who was a professional. Although I can’t recommend from experience bcuz I don’t use tips.
Great video! Question #1 Will hard gel stick to plastic full cover tips? Using it underneath on free edge? #2 What are you using to attach the plastic nail to the natural nail? Can i use hard gel for that? Basically wondering if I can do the lazy girl method with plastic tips?
I am sorry, but I do not know what lazy girl method is, but yes, hard gel will adhere to plastic tips. Make sure to etch your plastic tip before hand. (No two smooth surfaces will stick together) Nail techs, have been using plastic nail tips to do extentions, for over 20 years. To put gel on the underside of a nail tip and cure it, turn your hand upside down.... So gel is facing the light bulbs, then it will cure. Yes, you can use hard gel to attach a tip. That tip needs to be clear or shear, a black or dark color won't work. UV rays cannot get through that tip. Hope that helps 😊
Thank you for this video Paola!! Lots of great info like always. I saw the YN video too on plastic tips and I wandered since. This is great, I now have another’s expert opinion🙏🙌🏼✨💙
I saw another video on the topic of soft get tips . It was by a nail company and they said that when they brought up the topic to their chemist, the chemist said it is not possible to formulate a nail tip with soft gel.
Yes I saw this too. Their chemist tested several brands to see what each was made of and they were all essentially the same. Those who called them soft gel tips apparently are misleading customers
I think it might be possible but it would be thin and you would have to add more once on. I haven't tried it,but what if you used a dual nail form as a base for the shape?
Awesome video. I have a question. I use to go to the salon to get my nails done. Moved to the boonies, literally and I really miss my pretty nails so I want to learn to do them myself. Is it possibly to pre-paint the softer nails and then apply them? I suck at painting my own nails. Most glues used with the softer ones that are all over Amazon say to use a UV light? But you can get the little stands to paint them before applying…. Is that an option to use another glue since I’m thinking once painted that uv glue won’t work. I haven’t ordered anything yet, but I hope to soon. Thanks for the help!!!
Yes and no. Let me explain... If you fully paint your nail tips, with anything other than a see through color. Then no, you cannot attach them with gel. The UV or LED light, cannot get through the darker color, to the gel underneath. Usually what will happen, is it will cure a little bit around the edges, and be all wet and gooey in the middle. Having wet gel, stay wet on your nails 24/7, till they fall or pop off, is gonna lead to contact dermatitis. If you only decorate the tips (French style) and leave the nail bed clear or shear, then yes, you can use gel to adhere the tip. Hope that help 😊

Soak them in acetone. If they turn white, they are plastic. If they turn into a clear gelly consistency, they are soft gel tips.
Fold a tip down the middle plastic will leave a white line and be unusable , gel will bounce back and leave no mark
