I think it makes more sense that Charlie was also being mind-controlled during that scene since the glitch seemed to deactivate Ranboo's mind control at that point as well (he starts backing away and breathing heavily but continues as soon as it changes back again). Therefore, I think Charlie was experiencing a similar thing to this story but even worse.
