      If you want cheap and weird then have a look at secondhand 90s multiFX such as Zoom, Alesis, Digitech etc and some of those also do bit crushing intentionally, (they all do unintentionally to some extent. 😆). If you are worried about your tone being crushed as some have a rep for doing that then use a A,B/Y box to mix back in some untreated 'pure' guitar tones even get 2 MultiFX units and use the A,B/Y box to split your guitar signal and go for some parallel processing.

    In the sort of £50-60 sweet spot, and weird with it I like the EHX Hot Tubes. Really love the unique tones from it, has as much character as many old amps. It's an original circuit, there's nothing much like it, and it's really affordable. If you can stretch to the Hot Wax, you get a very flexible dual drive Crayon/Hot Tubes pedal that covers a lot of dirty ground. Shout out to the GUPTech DOnut too, because Crowther Hotcakes sound fantastic, a match made in heaven for a VOX AC30. and there aren't many affordable options out there for around $100. And I love their styling and colour options, as well as the great tones. EHX Octavix sound glorius too, and a bargain for an octaver fuzz. Above that price point, the KMA Queequeeg 2 I mentioned is superb.

    • @compucorder64
      @compucorder64 Місяць тому +1

      @@BudgetPedalChap It can be a clean boost. But, really I think of it as quite a dirty little grotbox pedal. It's some odd CMOS chip-based circuit. Has some of the character of fuzzes that sound like amps cooking full bore, maybe like what a Way Huge Swollen Pickle does, or even a Turbo RAT. But, it's a warmer, tubier sound that's less aggressive. That kinda reminds me of a Tweed driven very hard. Like what you'd hear on a amped up Neil Young record like 'Cinnamon Girl'. edit: yeah, just checked and seems Cinnamon Girl was a 1959 Fender Deluxe Tweed maxed out full volume. That's what I'd compare Hot Tubes too, but maybe with a bit more grind/crunch and hair, like a cooking AC30. And a fuller bass, like the Nobles ODR-1. You can get a good idea of it on Rhett Shull's '6 Great Budget Overdrive Pedals For Guitar' around 10:20 mark.

    A few of these pedals aren't anything but awful electronic engineering and bad circuit design. The dial up fuzz and Ritual fuzz is exactly how all fuzz pedals sound when they have a bad cap or wrong resistor, etc. Bias is effed up. The sonicake noise suffers a similar issue but with noise filtering. That degradation is just bad electronics. The Mariana is a god awful algorithm that's completely out of of balance with the input signal. Even the Lumberjack,which seems cool in theory, doesn't work well in audio practice.
    Still,the video itself is good,so not trying to disparage the creator at all. But you almost always get what you pay for in the pedal world. Or less so when talking about a lot of Strymon stuff. But some people just love that processed sound for some reason. Buyer affirmation maybe 😂.
