I know the Balearic Islands really well and "Islands" captures everything about them across the millenia. That's why it's my favourite album even with other albums as such staunch competition.
Another thing is that they had David Cross. On violin on larks, starless and I think partly red. It's a shame he was only with the band so shortly. He made a great contribution to the band

I agree that it’s fantastic but for me nothing in the Belew era touches the ‘60s or ‘70s KC.
Completely agree with choices 1 and 2, Starless and Fracture are both immense tracks, the finest pieces of music composed by any band.
Totally agree also with the inclusion of all but one of the tracks off the stunning Red album, which in fact is my all time favourite of any band, and has been since I first heard it around 40 years ago.
Any top 10 is bound to attract comment, as there are just so many great King Crimson tracks that sadly get excluded. Maybe a top 100 would be preferable 😊

Congratulations on putting Starless at the top of the list. Absolutely right! There's nothing on your list from the post hiatus group. I don't know that stuff myself very well. There are several contenders on Discipline, though: Elephant Talk, Indiscipline and Discipline all sound great to me.

No frame by frame? Wow! That tells you something about this band.
I pretty much agree with you. In my view the highlight of King crimson like so many other bands is the first half of the seventies from larks tongues in aspic to red. They have made good music after and before that but not at the same level. Fracture is an awesome tune. You should have had larks tongues in aspic part two on. The list too though.

To be fair the top 3 are all interchangeable on any given day. As are the songs behind them. Great catalogue.
Predictable list, would have roughly matched my own. But predictable only because these songs are so great. Live tracks should always be considered when they don't appear on any studio albums. Asbury Park would be a top 3 pick for me (off the live album, USA).
Almost an impossible task, I need to think about this for awhile. 🧐
I think like a lot of us our favs change with time and moods etc. I'm sure they will be from the Classic era 1969-74'

Starless?.. I have never thought of this as a stand out track. I think you have done a good
job of mixing the heavy with the melodic. I would have ended with a melodic epic song
but it would likely come from the first three records.
It's always hard to pick favourites from these guys. I reckon mine would be similar but with some Belew selctions in place of others. Still gotta have Fallen Angel and LTIA pt 1!
I would have chosen similarly. I found the SABB production sound a bit harsh so I might replace Night Watch with Easy Money, LTIA II or Exiles. I wanted to include Belew era tunes but none made it. So here's my top ten Belew KC tracks:

For me starless may have the ultimate prog
passage, but track its schizoid man.
Sinfield lyrics, all round musicianship,age of players,
and considering what other stuff was around at the time.
First heard it at the local youth club, when I was 14 and

Love the early stuff with peters lyrics, and his solo
album STILL aka STILLUSION is a masterpiece from 1973
His only solo.
Palmer James, great lyrics again Wetton Bruford
lineup fantastic.
But they lost me after RED, and believe me
I’ve tried.

Hi Cyril, I’ve heard the single ‘A House of Hopes and Dreams’ and will play a short segment of him performing this to introduce Sinfield in Emerson- Part 2. I haven’t heard the album though. Enjoy the concert mate! I’ve never seen him live. Cheers

Hi Cyril, first of all I’m surprised by Lake’s input into that song as ELP had a huge touring schedule at that time (1973), after completing the Brain Salad album. Lake’s vocals are truly wonderful and beautifully lift the song in the choruses although it doesn’t sound like Lake on bass. Here’s the link for others interested:

Top ten songs? Pretty much an impossible task, I might be able to narrow it down to thirty.
I'm curious why all these lists/categories of music anyway. Best of lists, worst to best album, band, song, cover art, singer, drummer, guitarist, keyboards. Everyone has their own tastes and moods.
Genesis said it best and this line best represents these best of lists..."I know what I like and I like what I know" One size fits all...I think not.
