      I'm in my mid-thirties and people frequently think I'm at least 10 years younger. I use a drugstore cleanser, moisturizer with spf or night cream, and an eye cream. If I'm gonna be in the sun for a significant amount of time I use a heavier duty sunscreen. That's it.

    I feel like a lot of advice about skincare boils down to this: keep it simple and keep it regular. Unless your skin is causing you actual physical pain (such as in the case of cystic acne), a simple routine is likely better. Sure, the necessities aren’t sexy and aren’t being marketed by influencers, but they’re recommended *by doctors* and I trust a doctor who actually went to medical school to study medicine over some influencer.

    I feel it's all about your personal experience & skin journey. As a 30 year old Black man, I have a deep interest in skincare & self-care. Yes my skin-routine is simple IE, cleanser, moisturizer & SPF, but I do enjoy researching ingredients, reading the labels on skincare products & trying new items. Thankfully I've been blessed with not having too many skin issues, no matter what I put on my skin. I do agree that many people are just over purchasing skincare for trends, but then there are some folks who just love that industry. Now what does need to END, are people putting food on their face. Which I thought was left back in the 2000's. An avocado or mango smeared on your face is not going to fix your skin issues. Eating it will do more for you.

    I use Korean skincare, and I agree that some steps may seem unnecessary, but skipping moisturiser after cleansing… It is an easy way to damage your skin's barrier and age it prematurely. Overall, people blindly purchase products advertised by influencers without understanding their purpose, rather than the number of steps in skincare being the issue. Many Koreans use a multi-step skincare routine, and their skin looks flawless

      Its called a good dermatologist. Thats what most koreans have outside of makeup....including the men. A good point of this is Shownu and Cocoloco (from tiktok), they look attractive if one is attracted to asian men. However, the closeups of their faces sans makeup shows their faces as patchy, reddish, moley and sometimes scratchy. The thing is they usually wear makeup and no close ups. South koreans are known for their plastic surgery, its disturbing how so few knkw of their dermatologist sector. These are just two men I myself once followed....the amount of female kpop singers with good money sans makeup....👀👀👀👀👀...they arent flawless dear. Theyre just like everyone else, with more damage I believe from caustic product overload.

    I have acne all over my face and body since 15 years. Hearing that your skin should "breathe" and "repair itself naturally" is just.. bs. And it makes me angry. Only people with good or normal skin can say this. You only use a creme once a week? And you have awesome skin? GOOD FOR YOU! Because you don't have these kind of problems. I'd rather spend money on these products to find out what suits me and my skin. Now I have found my routine. Acne skin can not just heal randomly by just washing the face and by letting it breathe...

      @longsai94 2 місяці тому +11

      I don't think this was the point of this video, as this is more about the unnecessary overconsumption of skincare products which makes people believe you need a 10-20 step skincare routine to have good skin, and ends up buying way too much. The basic routine you need is a cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. But if you need treatments for certain issues like acne of course add it in! But you might just need one product for that, not 10. When I had horrible cystic acne, I went to a dermatologist and was prescribed medication (isotretinoin) and differin gel. And she just advised me to do a basic routine (cleanser, moisturizer, suncreen), she didn't give me a huge skincare routine with 10+ products. And my skin finally healed.
      I've tried many skincare products because I've been tricked by the marketing as well and bought so much skincare because of that. But now I just keep it simple, and I see the same results for 1/5 of the price, and my skin is less irritated than when I use a lot of products. My routine now is a cleansing balm, cerave cleanser, prescription tretinoin, moisturizer, sunscreen and vaseline. And I use honey as a face mask.

    Finally someone is talking about this. Every time Ive had an elaborate bougie 10 step skin care routine, I developed HORRIFIC cystic acne. Severe , nodular, painful, burning. Literally every time. I started using Dr bronners all natural gentle organic bar soap ( i use the tea tree one), and then the moisturizing with ELF holy hydration, and then aquaphor for my lips about 2 years ago, and my skin looks amazing. That's it. I swear, when I was doing the elaborate skincare, my skin looked old and crappy, covered in rashes and bumps and peeling and red. My routine now has completely changed my skin, and now my skin is so healthy, clear, and plump. No bumps or rashes, no acne, no peeling red skin, no burning. I swear after 3-4 months of this, I de-aged by like 5 years. 10 step routines ruin my skin.

I remember buying hoards of makeup and throwing hundreds of pounds away at the end of the year, many products which had expired and could no longer be used. I felt ashamed at how so much resources were going to waste. That was back in 2018 and I stopped with my overconsumption of makeup. Skincare followed soon after too. This lifestyle just isn’t sustainable, both monetarily and environmentally. It’s no good to buy products in sustainable packaging if most of it will just go in the bin.

Your skin already knows what its supposed to do so need for aggressive exfoliation, 3xlayers of moisturiser , or different serums and oils. Keep it simple and use sunscreen!

    I went through the skin care thing when I was struggling with my self esteem, my skin was fine, but I wanted to treat myself. I looked into ingredients, bought a ton of stuff, etc. During the pandemic my skin was a wreck, I was trying everything and nothing worked. Cut to a year or 2 later and I quit my healthcare job and bought the affordable skincare... I found my perfect facial cleanser and it was $10 for a litre (before that my favourite cleaner was $50 for the equivalent of half a cup.) My skin has improved so much using affordable stuff.

    Excellent video! Less is more with skin. Please keep it simple and be consistent. The more products you introduce the more issues you will encounter. Use skincare products sparingly (people use far too much and it does not work better) but be liberal with the sunscreen.

    I can't understand ppl who hoard skincare. If it's make up I feel like it's not that bad because let's be honest we mostly using expired make up at some point 🤫 but skincare is a big no no for me. I always buy aloe vera moisturizer from The Ssaem that have big bulky jar and I feel like a champion whenever I finish those till the bottom ✊🏻😤 the jar even reusable I always use them to put some accesories

    I used to use all the products of the ordinary, body shop and so many brands at Sephora, it took me years to realize that it actually irritated my skin and made me breakout more. Now all I use is Kojic acid soap and milk toner and my skin has never looked better and not as sensitive. Also helped on my budget too.

    During my teenager years, I only use clenser and moisturizer, as moisturizer I only use aloe vera because it cool down my skin and makes my skin plumpy and shiny if I wear them overnight. On the day I had sports or outdoor activity I use sunscreen that can be wash off with cleanser to save money lol. I get perfect skin now eventhough I'm 24 y/o. These are still my routine but with a toner as an extra if I'm near my period because now I'm prone to get acne on week before my period.

Cleanser (the blue thermal one), Thatcher's Rosewater Spray (to tone and have that *clean* feeling), and LaRP Moisturizer. Like I don't understand retinoids or eye creams. I'm scared of em lol. But I might try one now. But yeah simplicity is best. Good luck everyone. ❤

    Me I never fell for the overconsumption of skincare or ever indulging in a extensive skincare routine mostly because there's only so much you can do with multiple products, but also spending that much on products especially when companies want to push out small sizes or one time use products never quite interested me. Not saying i have the most perfect skin but sometimes having just the basics makes me feel less overwhelmed and pressured. But if i had the finances and time i would probably be focusing on my skincare and hair routine on the daily, but that's just me.

    I have sensitive skin, but I'm allergic to aloe vera-- which is in almost every single sensitive skin product. I've tried dozens of skin products, and the only thing that made my skin **glow** was Tatcha, which is like... $150+ for a month's supply. I've found solace in Cerave cleanser and Hers moisturizers, the only two things that don't irritate my skin that also don't cause allergic reactions. Thanks for this wonderful video. You make great content.

    The historical part was ok accurate until the Middle Ages . The Middle Ages was the heir of antiquity when it comes to hygiene. The Roman and Greek thermae turned into public baths tubes (for the poorest) or private bath tubes (for the richest).
    The breaking point actually happened at the very end of the Middle Ages/beginning of Renaissance when it comes to hygiene habits when people started to stop bathing like completely stopped.
    Moreover you mistake the word Renaissance with the whole early modern era. Renaissance is only 16th century. People were still "dirty" up to the 2nd half of the 18th century. And even afterwards, the daily bath was definitely not a thing for an average person even in ghe 1960s for material/financial reason.

    • @JasminMiettunen
      @JasminMiettunen 2 місяці тому

      Water is H2O, a chemical. Your skin is made of chemicals. Coconut oil is composed of “caprylic acid C -8:0 (8%), capric acid, C-10:0,(7%), lauric acid C-12:0, (49%), myristic acid C-14:0(8%), palmitic acid C-16:0 (8%), stearic acid C-18:0 (2%), oleic acid C-18:1 (6%) and 2% of C-18:2 linoleic acid”, all of them sound scary but they’re just ingredients in coconut oil and common ingredients in “chemical” moisturisers. What you use are fine, but there’s no need to fear chemicals or products made by scientists studying the safety and efficacy of skincare. If your skin is good, you don’t need anything else other than a cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen, but if you have skin issues, the “chemicals” will help.

    The more I tried on my skin the worse it got, the skin ‘purge’ is the biggest marketing bullpoop imo because it is impossible for the average consumer to tell the difference between, irritation, allergic reaction spots, clogging/breaking out and a genuine ‘purge’ - the amount of times I’ve pushed through the, it gets worse before it gets better period only to wreck my skin 😅

      Have you tried seeing a dermatologist for your skin? You can try new products, just introduce them one at a time, and maybe not every day at first. If it irritates your skin stop using it and let your skin be, if it feels fine use it for a couple months to see if it works.
