Didnt have a clue about horse racing back then, still dont probably, but a kind old gentleman in the bookmakers told me to bet on High Rise. Only £2.50 each way on it, but I had a good night out on it
I’ve a plot twist here. Read on.... Frankie rode the winner High Rise to win the Lingfield Derby trail in a time only beaten in 2020 by English King. Frankie rode the favourite in this Derby and Olivier Peslier won on High Rise. Plot twist I hear you say? Frankie has now picked up the ride in English King, the 2020 Derby favourite who broke the trail record. Will Frankie turn the tables this time, I think ENGLISH KING will win the 2020 Derby, watch this space.......
And there's more :-) A few weeks later, Frankie won the King George at Ascot, riding Swain to beat High Rise. I backed High Rise and Sadian in the Derby on their performances in the Lingfield Derby Trial... £20 on High Rise at 22/1, but lost considerably more on him in the King George at 100/30.
If John had been just a little bit more strong on City Honours, I wouldn't be driving a truck for a living. Having known one of the owners before the horse was sold to godolphin, we were backing him for the Derby before he'd ever set foot on a racecourse. Yeah we won chunks, but if he'd won.... Jesus 🥺

David Saville It wasn't the bookie who told you, was it? No, he would have said lump your life savings on Cape Verdi.
Geordie....we were there that day
Really good horse.. and one of the very few to defeat the mighty Montjeu.
Had a fiver on high rise - good memories ….long time ago now
Loved Luca cumani
What an amazing run from Sunshine Street!! At 200/1!!
Great ride from Peslier!
King Of Kings was the horse that gave Aidan O'Brien his first British classic, the 2,000 Guineas winner that year.
Was at ponte when it won that season, looked quality that day.,
Hi I'm looking for video off horse called Orbitor winning his maiden at Chelmsford on 29th October 2008. Was wondering if you had any footage
Apart from some very early races, no all weather races. I have no interest in it and don't watch it.
Eleven of the fifteen jockeys rode a Derby winner in their career. The only exceptions were R.Hills, Holland, Quinn, and Roberts.
Cumani so underrated
Very true
I think Sunshine Street was trained by Noel Meade who wouldn't be known for his flat training
The last horse that won the Lingfield trial to triumph at Epsom
Andrew Swift That is correct.
Until last year and this year
