Donation lootboxes doesn't sound like a bad idea, but they would need to be SUPER regulated, like max $50 for reasonably good loot. A diamond pickaxe maybe, loot that's worth 50 bucks but not to the point it tips the balance, otherwise folk could turn it into a clusterfuck of paying to fund survivors with endgame loot. Or maybe even a set amount of loot, like 5 chests with 1 item each every two hours or so, limiting the risk of it becoming a crutch. Would be tempted with the hardcore myself, but knowing my bad luck I'd spawn in at stage 8 and get immediately mobbed by creatures who loved the Great British Bake Off and wanna chew on my cake... ._.
