palm hearts are one of my favourite foods. I grow them and there is nothing fresher and more delicious than fresh palm hearts. but I only get a few every year.
*You can get similar product from a banana tree...they usually discard the trees after harvesting the bananas...and the other hand...palm trees like in the video are becoming and endangered specie...and take years to grow...*

Hi Mark. I wanna let you know something, because I am a big fan of yours. This tree gives few things for humans and specially for the elephant. That part you ate is very helpful for the dezenees. And local farmers make honey 🍯and toddy (Alcohol) either. When it grows well people can get some flour too. All of these are very healthy. Even in our country very difficult to find pure products now. As I remember you visit sri lanka twice and taste a lot of Tamil & Muslim's food. Visit again and try more sinhalis traditional foods too. Hope to gide you if there is any chance and appreciate.

In Mizoram (North-East India), we have different types of these palms, some is small and some is that type of big.Amongst all those types of palms, I love the most is what you just ate and second is beetle nut tree (what we used to eat only the middle section of the top part), it has also a good texture. However that fishtail palm tree(leaf) was used to celebrate our Lord Jesus Christ when he went to Jerusalem with shout out loud Hossana.

Wow. In Sri Lanka we call it the Kithul tree. Ofcourse it is favorite tree of elephants.
Kithul is used to make for treacle syrup. But in South India like Mangalore, it is used to make sweet flat Jaggery or Gur rich in iron n vitamins.
