5 Questions to Determine Company Culture - BEFORE You Accept the Job!
A bad corporate culture or toxic leadership - or toxic corporate culture in general - can ruin even the best of jobs. That's why it's important to do your research before you accept the new job offer to determine if the company culture is a fit for you and this season of your career.
The problem is that when you ask directly - it can either look bad on you (e.g. asking the question "Will I get to leave right at 5pm?" might not reflect well on you)...
and/or it can be hard to get an honest answer - because interviewers are on their best behavior, and are expected to represent the company in a positive light.
That's why in today's video I share job search advice on:
✔️ 5 Questions to ask to get a sense of company culture (and whether or not it's a toxic workplace),
✔️ who to ask and at what stage of the job search or job interview,
✔️ when to approach the subject, and
✔️ how to read between the lines to determine culture fit

Thanks, Kristen! I think I'm going to add #4 to my typical question bank. By asking about the type of person who is successful, I can definitely see whether the interviewer's answer is skills-focused or behavior-focused. If the response, to your point, is all about "we stay late 2x a week," that puts up some red flags for me. But, what I also think is worth mentioning, is not to make a judgment on a company from one person's responses. If I ask the same question of each person I interview with at that company, I would expect some themes and commonalities to rise to the top here. Then, once you have a full picture, you can decide if the company is right for you!

Thanks for sharing how you're going to incorporate this question moving forward. And I agree - it's important to not put too much weight into one person's answer/experience - ask the same (or similar) questions to everyone you meet!

I like question 5 how do they celebrate wins? I think it'd would tell you a lot.

I agree, very telling! A lack of celebration (or simple acknowledgement/appreciation) can have such a negative impact in the long-run.
